I thought the same when they showed the stand first. I considered maybe they'd have the stand out of some thick cardboard or something or did they bother with a bullet proof glass, otherwise that thing is smashing right into the window. It's really odd whoever was responsible for the setting up of the stunt didn't see it coming, or maybe that's an acceptable risk? Still it seems within the realms of possibility for the wooden box to smash into the steering wheel and braking his fingers or something if not worse.

I think it's made of balsa wood, so it's really light, yet I feel it was not safe anyway. Imagine if the pole dug into the ground at an angle pointing straight into his face... That's a powerful blow anyway at that speed

wasn't really the fruit that did that it was the wooden stand it was sitting on, the car's hood was low enough to scoop it up and send it straight towards the windshield. if you go to 5:38 you can actually see a 2x4 sticking out of the car. Not sure why they didn't reinforce the windshield for something like this.
