When I was a fisherman in Cornwall back in the 1970s, I and another member of the crew were on the quay talking to a scientist who was down there checking on fish etc. We were talking about purse seine nets, I can remember him saying that in 50 years we will be lucky if there is a fish left, my friend said " Well, we are OK then ! I wonder. Many years ago I used to fish for mackerel off the West Coast of Ireland and mackerel were plentiful. Over the years the quantity of mackerel has dropped off, nowadays the quantity caught from shore fishing in vert little. The seas in general are being overfished and something has to give.
