Cost to fill the gas tank on a CTS-V in Germany €79.86 - $87.73 Cost to fill the gas tank on a CTS-v in Michigan €29.85 - $32.80 I think european gas tax has a lot to do with the fact that average Americans can afford bigger engines. As I write this comment (July 24th 2016) gas here in Michigan is $2.05 per gallon while the price of gas in Frankfurt is about $5.57 per gallon.

The ATS has the basics done right. Like Matt stated Cadillac just need to address the small details to make a top class car. And given GM's focus on Cadillac these past few years I say they are doing a good job so far.
@MrSupersaiyangoku9 жыл бұрын
GM's 8 speed keeps getting slack because in manual mode it is not as fast in shift speed as reviewers would like,. But here is the thing. Its perfectly fine in automatic mode were you have the car setup in track mode. The computer is so intuitive and always has the car in its perfect gear. You simply can not be involved in the automatic 8 SPEED. If you want driver involvement then buy the manual transmission.

I have had the ats-v for about a month now and I love the car. Very fast. Handles amazing and the 8 speed auto is not so bad when you learn how to use it. When you are in manual mode you need to learn the correct times to downshift and it will respond very fast. The upshifts are fast when you are on the gas and hits hard. Very solid car and the acceleration is nasty. Very nice powerband. This has a big turbo type is high rpm pull that you don't get from other cars. Builds power the whole way up the rpm range. Tons of torque

+thesmokingtire I was hoping for your standard out (shift with paddles) and back (let the auto shift) comparison. I've noticed that a lot of others have stated the trans downshifts better in auto than with the paddles. I don't know it you were pressed for time or if you noticed if it wasn't that different. I realize its stupid to offer paddles if they're basically useless just because the other guy offers paddle because if theirs works and your's doesn't you just look bad. I was also hoping for better cooling with more frontal area for flow through the radiator. Do you think it was undersized for fitment and cost because they gambled on it not being driven that hard by most?
@wobblysauce9 жыл бұрын
Built to a price for where most people are, if you live some where Hot you can change it up.
@stigmsr19 жыл бұрын
+wobbly sauce I really hope that not the case though you're probably right. A stock car should be able to be driven at speed without severely cutting power. If it were modified and can't keep up with the heat then upgrading cooling would be understandable. If Cadi wants to do this and knows they can't handle the heat maybe do an over-boost function for short busts of extra power then back down to help keep the temps in check. Just my opinion but when your car gets known for going into limp mode on every test you dropped the ball somewhere.
@TheSmokingTire9 жыл бұрын
It's a little better in auto, yeah, but I still would rather shift myself most of the time. I'm sure there are ways to keep that engine cooler but you probably have to get a real expensive series of coolers that GM didn't want to buy.

TheSmokingTire Sounds like they should have tried to work out a bulk deal for more efficient ones that could work in the Vette too since it sounds like it needs them as well. That rotational inertia in the coupling portion of the auto transmission, that is equivalent to the flywheel, is in the torque converter. The flexplate, which some may try to say is the equivalent of the flywheel weighs less than 5 pounds on most cars. Obviously, a 5 lb flywheel in a manual car would be stupid light. So lighter weight torque converter? Then again maybe the problem isn't the coupling portion. Maybe it's in the auto tranny itself. They are called slush boxes for a reason.
@autoblast59309 жыл бұрын

i was in the atsv and ctsv at laguna seca during a 45min-1 hour session driven by pro drivers for caddy customers.. cars held up very well , air temps were 80-85 degrees ... the ctsv was pretty insane around laguna and atsv very close in ride, speed and handling... also got to drive both vehicles and both very nice... ctsv should come in stick... i actually like the exhaust note in the atsv, sounds good up high in the rev range, i also like the power delivery... after many hot laps you can tell the cts has better brakes.. problem with the infotainment system(i hate that word infotainment btw) is when you touch the buttons you dont know that you actually did anything , the buttons are like fixed plastic and you cant feel them working , they dont click like a button should lol... you just press the thing and wonder if its actually a button... i dont know of any force induced engine that stays cool on the track without modification.. how hot was it in texas when the atsv was getting hot? i assume it was on the street and not the track based on what matt was saying

+RingerRacing The CUE system uses a haptic engine, so you do actually know when you've done something because the surface you're touching vibrates under your finger. ***** This is not a Z06. Only one person has said anything about an ATS-V overheating, and that was Matt, in this video, about one particular ATS-V that overheated during testing a couple months ago. GM has already told Matt that that particular ATS-V was running a pre-production part that failed which is why it overheated. That part was not used on any production cars, and none of them have overheated, despite being flogged around tracks all day by motoring journalists. The Z06 is a completely different shape and has much more difficult packaging challenges.
@jayman814249 жыл бұрын

Good review. I've had mine for about 2 months now. The gearbox is peculiar as sometimes it wants to behave and have that snappiness of a DCT and other times, it's just downright slow. Hopefully this can all be resolved in tuning via software updates. In terms of overheating, I have to agree as well. According to my PDR, Water Temp: 221(max), Oil Temp: 266 (max), Trans Temp: 243(max). This was after a 1:59.7 running at Buttonwillow CW13. Temps that day were in the high 60's/low 70's. Completely stock. (Footage on my page) Hopefully, some better oil will drop it down a touch in the coming summer months.

is it possible to go limp mode in N/A engine?
@BrodeyDoverosx9 жыл бұрын
+David MuscleGuy Yes...
@fcgodftw9 жыл бұрын
+David MuscleGuy "Limp mode" has nothing to do with engine induction but with electronics. Any car that uses a computer (ECU) to run engine parameters will go into limp mode if one of those parameters goes outside its boundaries enough for the engine's health to be at risk. In this case, it was engine/oil temperature. By detecting a temperature that is too high for the normal operation of the car, the ECU cuts down on fuel injection despite how much throttle you give it, or even decreases the ammount of engine rev by half or even more.

Flávio Coimbra thank you but i think the case is a lot more vulnerable in FI engines .

+David MuscleGuy I think I'm with you on that man, even at the drag strips most fi vehicles are not consistent at all like the n/a vehicles, unless they sit for like an hour or 2 to cool down

What data do you have that suggest the ATS-V doesn't handle heat well? Any data logs that show timing being pulled due to high IAT2s?
@TheSmokingTire9 жыл бұрын
I don't do data tests, but the entire /DRIVE staff will attest to how slow it was during our drag racing segment due to the heat.
@SuperNorm029 жыл бұрын
+TheSmokingTire. Ok, so in reality you have no factual data to suggest that this is not a good car to buy if you live somewhere that is hot? By the way, I was with Cadillac last month (August 2015) at COTA for a track event. It was 107* outside with track temps above 130*s. Not a single ATS-V or CTS-V over heated and the cars ran on the track from 9am-4pm. If you're going to make an outrageous claim like the one you did, perhaps you should use some data instead of opinions to back it up.

+SuperNorm02 Do you have any data logs showing these temps?
@SuperNorm029 жыл бұрын
+MrNicholg Actually, I do. I can forward you the temps from the Cosworth Toolbox app. Where would you like for me to send them?
@MrNicholg9 жыл бұрын
I don't use windows, but maybe someone else will take you up on it. Can you relay coolant, oil, diff, and ambient air temps here?

Cadillac has really stepped up their game with the ATS-V and CTS-V. Much respect to them. On track I would take an M3 and on road the C63. ATS-V is almost as good but not quite there. Maybe next generation.

matt what is the difference between the ats v and the cts vsport? arent they both tt v6's?
@mre27898 жыл бұрын
+TheSmokingTire When is the 2017 ATS-V review coming? Maybe the transmission is flawless, the engine sounds like a purring tiger, and the interior is made of chinchilla furs.

Come on Matt, my 10 year old daughter had the CUE system figured out in less time then it took to watch this video
@vernonprice59869 жыл бұрын
+Barry Blackstone Yeah I feel like Matt is unreasonably harsh about CUE, I mean I'm not saying it's the best system at all, but it is really not that hard to use. There are also tricks I think a lot of people aren't aware of, like to change the volume quickly you can swipe left or right on the volume slider in the center console. The new Cadillacs are also getting a 4X bump in processing power which fixes the lag, which I think was one of the worst parts of CUE. There are also steering wheel controls for phone, voice commands, volume, track up/down, DIC settings etc which means you don't actually have to use the CUE interface itself for most of the things you want to do while you're actually driving. So I just can't see the justification for the hate it gets.
