Hey guys, Dean here (builder).. wanted to drop in with a very sincere thank you to Mat and One Take for the love you've given this car.. Steve (the owner) told me this was video was going up today.. I still can't get the smile off of my face from watching Mat drive it .... During the time that I built and drove the car, I was always amazed at the positive vibes this little buzz bomb created.. So gratifying to see it here, and all of the positive comments- thank you ;-)

I'm honestly sick and tired of the fighting for Nurburgring lap times, the latest million dollar hypercars that will be yesterday's news in a few months, or the basic-bro meat heads who's fullest extent of creativity is to copy-and-paste a 1000 hp LS or 2JZ swap to do nothing but impress their basic-bro friends and show off on KZbin. He should install a quick shifter. So you would only really need the clutch for 1st
@zecc817 жыл бұрын
Rick Rucker The debate is coming from people who don't really get engineering I think, the design of the gear teeth is literally meant for it as long as you match the rpms close enough. A quick shifter is one step further and matches those rpms for you with a properly timed fuel cut mid-shift. If I were to venture a guess as to why the owner said to use the clutch, probably because this weighs roughly triple the weight of the bike and a bad shift will result in a substantial amount more torque applied to that motorcycle transmission
@somedude36397 жыл бұрын
Then id tell him to use the clutch too. These Trans gearing is 500 rpm apart, he clearly revved 3k rpms to rev match a down shift. clutch = random ppl not fucking your syncro

VFR 1200 nowhere near as good due to the different crank angle.
@brianlinton9107 жыл бұрын
Dontcallmeshirley sadly not even close. The 800s can be pushed well over 200 horse. The vtec would be nice for the little extra grunt from two valve down low. Everyone gets that backwards. Instead of the fifth cylinder ala rc211v Honda instead made the 1200 monstrosity that looks fine on paper but can't hang with a warmed over 750 or 800. It gets better fuel economy though right? Umm no. More durable? Also no. Better for upgrades? Nope. PC does almost nothing. Exhaust is an exercise in wasted money and really building one gets a broken engine fairly quickly. It wouldn't live long in a 1400 pound car either. Don't get me wrong they really aren't bad bikes but for the original asking price very disappointing. Honda heard the howls of frustration aaaand back comes the 800. In further neutered from "to enhance midrange performance ". Also still a fine machine at leftover prices. Some below 5k. But not exactly the firebreather the endurance racing bikes were in the 80s. Staying with the v4 a real upgrade would be the motus chevy/Honda/Ducati Frankenstein thing that just works. Or vmax 1700 or burly aftermarket twin or zx14. I'm a Honda guy but it's getting hard to defend brutally outdated overpriced products.
@brianlinton9107 жыл бұрын
Dontcallmeshirley yeah that turned into a little more of a rant than I meant when I started writing. The 1200 is an okay bike. Just not close to living up to the hype. When they set out to replace the vfr 1100xx and pan/st all in one bike we expected more. Yeah at peak it's about 50 more horsepower, but the nasty dead spot between about three and five thousand makes it ride like a lot less. And yes it would take a serious build to be over 200 reliable horsepower, but a small car would be ideal for it. Lots of room for an intercooler or two so the supercharger does what it really should. I guess we were just spoiled in the 90s with giant leaps forward every couple years. Now it seems like its kind of the chicken and egg thing between shrinking sales and lack of innovation. The new bikes in general are fine of course. I built and rode a few. And get the itch to do something new again. The fire blades for example. The latest greatest can shave a few hundredths off on a well groomed track, but from a real world standpoint your 07 is just as good. And in my opinion preferred because it was/is just a good bike. Without the electronic childproofing the bike media and manufacturers have put ahead of hard engineering. Currently on an 05 rc51 btw. Older but still works. And yeah I miss the v4 burble down low and shriek at the top. Wish Honda would hear that and give us what they could have built.
@romanval697 жыл бұрын

I just showed my roommate (who couldn't be less into cars) this video and the one with Alex Roy's Morgan 3-wheeler and he loved these quirky cars. How could you not like this thing? I WANT ONE SO BAD.

Wow, of all the high horse power, super expensive and unobtainable cars Matt has driven and this 115 hp beast puts them to shame for sheer fun. It points to the basic joy of driving: light weight, loud and high revving motor that you can feel. Such a pleasure to watch.

I think it's safe to assume that Matt didn't get that grin pealed off his face for at least a week after climbing out of the car!! When he got home that night, his wife must have taken one look at that grin and asked just what did he spend his day doing?? That would certainly make it worth going to work... and getting PAID for it!! 😂😂🤣

Amazing build, absolutely love it. I only came across this video after buying one of these engines for my S800 Honda project (it was super cheap engine an local) an wanted to check what it was gona sound like, then found this gem! I love this video an watch it almost every month to boost my inspiration! This thing sounds insane and I can't wait to get mine up and running an on the road to have a similar experience to you guys here! I was so chuffed to see that someone else had put this engine in a car, not just any car but a similar era and same manufacturer as my car. Sweet, sweet car Steve, and amazing build Dean 👍👍👍

The original had what looks like an air cooled 350 twin. It had a shroud around the motor and an electric fan for cooling.

Such a rad little monster. Keeping it Honda, keeping it unique with the V4, love it.

I'm amazed the internals of it can actually move the car... I thought the rods would snap or something if it tried giving momentum to something this size with two passengers. Great engineering from Honda if this thing is actually just a stock bike engine.

Nope, its a bike engine from the VFR 800. Unlike cars, motorcycles get really cool engines like V4s and crossplane I4s. That is what happens when you decide that the engine is far more important than "features".
@taxus7506 жыл бұрын
vtr0104 with the right gearing it will cope quite well, it's the clutch that will cop the abuse (then again, if it's using the stock VFR box it'll have a wet clutch too). Gear-driven camshaft VFRs are legendary, one bloke put 446,000 miles on a stock 750 with no more than regular servicing without ever separating the heads from the block.
