Hi Nic, I play my snooker at local snooker hall where the many tables are pretty close together, I would call myself a momentum player meaning all my best breaks have came at a quick pace, often I have found during a break I might have to wait for someone on adjacent table to play their shot as we are in each others way, 8 times out of ten I will then miss my shot as my momentum has been disturbed and concentration broken, I realise this question may be a little different to the usual questions as its more the mental side rather than physical side to game, but I could really do with some pointers as this easily distracted nature I have has cost me numerous breaks and matches, many thanks n keep up the great work. Barry

Hi Barry can you walk the other way around the table and pretend you are playing another shot in your mind a couple of times and then walk back to the original position?

really good tutorial, I've just started playing in the league after playing infrequently for pleasure. I have struggled with my potting. I can feel I am way to tense and your video has reminded me of some the basics required for me to loosen up on the shot. a very inspiring tutorial- thank you.

Hi Nic, Congratulations on the great initiative you have taken in hosting this really unique webinar on the marvelously intricate game of snooker. In fact so intricate that you can teach for a life time and we can keep on learning too. Yes I did read Ronnie O' Sullivan's 'life saver' I quote "The Chimp Paradox" and a massive volume of literature on this topic. My biggest problem: How can I perfect a rock solid, absolutely steady, repeatable stance? I read that locking your cheek into your shoulder, like Liang Wenbo does may help. All advice on this I am sure, much needed aspect of advanced snooker will help many, looking forward to your comments. Thank you very much Nic. Best wishes on your great initiative to spread the intricacies of this great and lovely game, that brings so much joy to so many worldwide:-)

Thankyou Thiagan Locking the cheek is not required as that introduces tension - allow the shoulder to settle naturally and easily

I'd definitely say that I'm in the 40-100 bracket. I do agree with you nic that not letting the arm through can be a common mistake on some shots but moving and changing parallax then naturally cueing across shots to try and compensate is a thing for me, also confidence. I do think contrary to what you say that my most common problem in missing easy shots in equal measure to head movement is inconsistent aligning the cue on the line by mis trusting potting angles and miss sighting issues due to lack of confidence particularly where pockets not in eyeline and because of learned behaviour over picking wrong angles, particularly under pressure. Of course you can never cue everything straight but I'd say the cue on the line is perhaps more fundamental since if you can't get the cue on line you will never pot anything.
@TheSnookerGym
@TheSnookerGym 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, you are putting the cart before the horse which most players at the 40-50 break end of your bracket do. They are WAY over concerned with getting the line right, which evven if they could be sure of it (they cannot, because even pros are not sure of the angle sometimes - which many players incorrectly find unbelievable) is impossible to confirm if their cueing is not straight. My advice to players below 50 break standard who struggle with potting is to FORGET ABOUT POTTING, and just focus on delivering the cue straight. They then have a chance of finding out how good their aiming is. In a sense, players at that level need to learn to miss properly (with a straight delivery and staying in position long enough to confirm this) to accelerate their potting angle recognition through the trial and error process that all pros learnt with and are still calibrating their aiming with on every shot they play.

Thank you so much for the effort , very useful very educative. Just for the record please use the white board instead of the paper board with the very squeacky and annoying noise of the magic marker on it, since you have significant sound recording devices. Thanks.

Loved this session Nic, I am in the 40-100 bracket and everything you said struck a chord, I see further down you said you were doing a video about not snatching on deep screw shots, looking forward to it as every now and again I feel I do it, it's like a build up then a big explosion ( exaggerated a bit but just to explain how it feels inside)

Wow, this become tradition! Thanks for your effort. Can you explain exact point where hand hits the chest, and should i aim to hit chest on all shots?
@TheSnookerGym
@TheSnookerGym 4 жыл бұрын
Yes - get down and delivery cue very slow and straight with no cue ball to learn where grip wants to hit chest. Then this part of chest stops cue on every shot other than roll up snooker or very slow roll shots

Hello Nic First of all, thank you so much for your help in teaching us how to play this wonderful game of snooker. I bought your book "How to make 100 break". I have a question regarding my grip. One thing that I have noticed is that after I strike the cue ball, I think my cue is "turning". I noticed this because, initially I hold the cue with the name plate facing the top, then after I strike the cue ball, the name plate has turned and is facing another direction. What could be the problem here? I also noticed this because of the arrows that are in the cue, they are not where they were before the shot.

You can loosen the back fingers of the grip hand, hold the cue looser, slow down the backswing, slow down the transition between backswing and delivery.

hi nic ..how r u?? I got the aimframe from u a few months ago and my potting has improved immensely.. my club is having its player of the year competition and i am in fifth place if i win my next 2 matches i will top the league table..there is a long way to go but this is a huge improvement for me compared to last year any way my question is my grip some players have told me i should change the tension of my grip depending on what kind of shot i'm playing

Great input. Im the 40-100 player. Lots of 50s a dozen 60s and a high of 87. I found the bit about gripping the cue bang on. I don't always follow through, and snatch! When a deep screw shot is required, I know I tense up, leading to a jumping white ball/miscue. Any recommendations regarding practice routines to sort it?

Hi Nic, Chris here from Canada. I'm a fairly decent player from with a high break of 87 in practice and 40 in a tournament match. My question to you is if I find myself consistently missing in one direction, in my case, thin on my shots (missing right of the pocket), when lined up properly, I feel like I'm focusing in on the middle of the white but I feel like my delivery is off causing me to hit across it. How should I go about diagnosing and correcting it? Thank you for all your video's and support in answering our questions.
@TheSnookerGym
@TheSnookerGym 8 жыл бұрын
If the delivery is off it is either wrong aiming and the body is trying to compensate, or your body is blocking the cue from a straight delivery. Stand in your normal stance without any cue ball in front of you - can you deliver straight? If yes, your problem is probably aiming - so you must get your vision centre correct in which this choice of prize from yesterday is appropriate for you www.thesnookergym.com/aim-frame-page/ your cueing will then straighten up automatically. If you cannot deliver straight on your own then I am happy to watch a video of your technique to give you personalised advice instead for your prize from yesterday....

Hi Nic, This is Jordy, thanks for the live session, I have another question that I want to ask you about is: how to make sure the cue is on the line of aim when I am down on the shot, its really hard to see if the whole cue is pointing at the right direction when you are down on the shot. Please let me know if you are making another live session. Thanks Jordy

Thanks for this nick, i am struggling with hand and wrist position sometimes its fine, but once i start correcting it at times it works at times it gets worse as would be expected as a result of over thinking. Also feathering sometimes when im playing my best i do this thing where i feather really loosely and then grip slightly more on the last one cocking the wrist forward. but then when im playing bad there is too much tension and elbow and wrist come off line. im so confused please help. Kingston from New Zealand. and no its not apart of australia haha
