My main issue with Victoria 3 is the lack of flavor, things like the Springtime of people, the Risorgimento and the Unification of Germany have few journal entries and events. Other countries completly lack any JE, event or special decision (like Mexico or Sebia). I suggest you to try "Mandate of Heaven" China flavor mod, play as Serbia or Bulgaria in the "Greece, Byzantium and the Balkans flavor" or some countries in Divergences mod (like Provence, Beornia or Qingqiu)

The divergences mod works in a very silly way, you can create the east indies company but not the east india company, every country gets the indian struggle for independence JE that straight up gives +0.5 liberty desire lastly stamping out monarchism and last slavers journal entries/events straight up do not work

You should've taken on the British. There's a not-so-friendly history between the Orange Free State and the British Empire, and it would've been interesting to see an alternate history scenario where the Orange Free State survived. They got annexed in the Second Boer War by the British.

Technically calling it the Orange free state is correct. So is calling it the "Oranje Vrystaat", which is the Afrikaans/Dutch name for it. IRL it, the Zulu empire, Pretoria and the Cape colony all merged together into what is modern day South Africa.

What you mention at 12:47 is currently what I fear most will happen to EU5. The amount of things to do and the "arcadey"-nature of EU4 are in my opinion what makes it feel so active. Obviously you have sometimes phases where you have to wait for a coalition to cool down or for your economy to recover after a big war or for colonies to finish, but there is never a time slot of more than 5 minutes where you are just wait for things to finish. Especially when your CPU is fast enough.

dunno if youve done this before but heres an idea... whenever playing a game like eu4 or this game, you have to always take the worst decision in events.. ie being honest, whatever youd not normally take, you have to choose the other one (ie if an event says take 10 prestige or lose 1 stability, you have to lose stability)

Also Victoria 3 is a lot more fun when you have a really good pc because you can skip a lot of time and get to the end game much faster. At five speed Victoria 3 is pretty much going as fast as your pc can handle. When I got a new pc and went from an intel core i7 and 1070 to i14900K and 4090 Victoria 3 ran atleast 4 to 5 times quicker on five speed and made the game way more enjoyable. This really isn't a solution for most people but an explanation I guess. If you had a better processor you could run Victoria 3 2 or 3 times quicker.

a lot of paradox games utilise this, ssd and cpu quality affects the game speed more than you'd expect. I had a huge ck3 italian empire that was genuinely fully softlocked because of a 200k troop revolt across all of europe meant it would go at about 1 day per minute. my cpu just wasnt good enough to handle 150 different AIs pathing around and besieging. it wouldve taken like a week of playtime to win the war

I'm extremely confused, Oranje is fine (for a single-state country). It's landlocked, but it's not as if it can't fairly easily win against Zulu to get access to the sea. The biggest problem is that it's super RNG when you get gold which turbocharges your economy and whenever the UK stops guaranteeing Transvaal so you can take it over. The amount of racism in such a developed country is actually pretty unique (aside from neighboring Transvaal, obviously).

I'm South African so I regularly play Free State or Transvaal, Transvaal is so much better BTW, the secret is to bum-rush Zulu, then Transvaal, or Free State if you're playing as Transvaal. Then the next top priorities are to make Oman a protectorate and conquer Yemen(Opium, oil, rubber, lead), then start conquering Borneo slowly but surely, the parts that the Dutch don't own. (Sulphur, more gold, rubber) With all the gold you mint then the world becomes your oyster. Im usually between Rank 10 - 5 by the end of the playthrough Edit: Forgot to add, always be the best-est of friends with Britain. Trade, even help them in some small wars against minors. I've had a few fun playthroughs with becoming a subject of Britain just to milk their pops and investments then instigate massive wars for Britain with other majors for independence.
