I bought this mixer used today for 49 bucks , thanks for showing me how to connect effects pedals, exactly what I was looking for, same mixer was a plus!
@chrischeetham16522 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great video! I knew how the effects loop connects to the mixer and basically how to make it work, but seeing it being done helped me to understand exactly what's going on while using the effects. I happen to be using the exact same Xenyx mixer too, so now I know what I can expect when I add my external effects processor. Well done, very nice work on the video.

Good video, One thing though, when connecting in this way, you should adjust the effects balance, in the effects unit, to fully Wet, as in, no dry signal at all, if you don't, you will be increasing the volume level of whatever you feed to the effect unit and back to the returns, as well as applying the effect you want, and depending on levels, this can also cause a feedback loop, Some effects units may have a switch for this scenario, one way selected for if you are just feeding an instrument through the effects box directly and be able to adjust the dry / wet mix, and another selection for when you are using the effects device as an out board effects unit for a mixer, that will remove any dry feed through the effects unit, just something I noticed you overlooked in your tutorial.

He mentions and demonstrates the phasing issues that come from this though- I think the mixer is wired so if you are sending to an effect just in series you just turn down the main fader of the channel that is being sent to 0 and instead turn up the FX send volume of the mixed signal. Only my HoF has the kill-dry switch!
@pcoccoli10 ай бұрын
The Aux return on a mixer is effectively an extra mixer channel (without EQ and sends). In my experience, very few effects pedals go 100% wet, so to remove the dry signal you turn down the original channel in the mix. The aux/fx send should be before the main fader. Then the aux/fx send knob acts as your fader.
@KeltyVince10 ай бұрын
@@pcoccoli This would also depend on the signal, stereo or mono, and if you would like to preserve a stereo signal if the effect send is just mono, as well as the exact effect processor or pedal, some have a function or switch for use in this scenario, so as to provide a full wet effect or mixture of dry and wet, as well as the actual mixers capability for fx send and return, in the scenario featured in this video, this particular effects pedal is capable of full wet output, so what i described will work well, but you are correct in that if your particular pedal or fx processor can't return a fully wet signal, then what you describe in your comment is a good way to utilise the fx send and return channel, mixer signal type dependent, there can be a few different variables that come into play depending on the mixer and fx system used, it's not always so straight forward.

Try using Insert with a 1/4 TRS splitter cable if you want to use two channels for stereo input to the MS 70CDR. You can use 2 TRS cables, one for channel 1 and one for channel 2. Each will have a send and receive 1/4 (mono style) going to the effects unit, one send 1/4 inch mono going to left and one to right, but the other side will be a stereo style going into the Insert. Clever way to add outboard effects.

I think thats what it is, i want to be able to play into the looper and have it play, the be able to have a clean signal for the guitar… i get how to get it out to the looper but how can I have a channel for the looper playback ( so I can turn it down or off completely but still have a guitar signal and keep playing?) any help is appreciated -- I do have the 802 shown in this video

Looking beyond this tutorial, if you have INSERT capabilities per-channel, you can also add effects to only one channel using a "Y" cable which is properly wired for INSERT functionality. I.E., it sends channel audio out on one of the legs of the "Y" and returns on the other. The effects will affect the audio only on that channel, at the insert point (so, pre-fader and possibly before other parts of the channel strip as well).

Very helpful video. I have used a DigiTech RP-80 in the loop on a Behringer 802. Send from 802 to the input on the RP-80 , L&R out on the RP-80 to L&R returns on the 802. Fairly quiet and can add B3 grit or Leslie effect to a cheap keyboard.

This is good for fx applied across the entire fx bus, though I intend to use this pedal for a keyboard, Mic Mechanic 2 for lead singer, and mixer fx to the backup vocals in other mics. So the lead singer does not get added to the mixer fx, nor does the other instrument channels and keyboard. Ie: Because I have onboard fx and lead singer has their own basic enhancements, I have no use for other external fx unless I want to chase something special other than mixer fx.

thanks so much for this! Like everyone else in the comments I found this very easy to follow. Question - does it help to have a TRS 1/4" cable connecting the effects unit to the mixer (rather than a TS)? Another tutorial I saw somewhere else mentioned it but I can't find it.. Thanks again! :)
@dagostinipoetryproject9047 Жыл бұрын
I think when you plug in the keyboard that has a stereo output and the mixer sends the signal to the Zoom pedal you should be in the input of the pedal also connect the second cable, otherwise you will lose the stereophony of the keyboard and the effects of the pedal. If it has two entrances and two exits there will be a reason!

No. Guitar is simple Line level, you only need to connect guitar to line input and adjust the volume from the FX processor for pedal to work properly.
