In addition to a minor comment on the obvious Dryad Arbor misplay, I feel that the game should have been played out even after Gitrog demonstrated that it could win. Players conceeding after a loop has been demonstrated is normally done to save time and fit more games in. However, in a video format, I feel that it is better for the viewing audience that players actually meet the conditions for losing as opposed to simply scooping. On top of that, I personally would have enjoyed seeing exactly how Gitrog won the game.
@TheSpikeFeeders6 жыл бұрын
I think this is a totally valid criticism, and it's one that came up in our Patreon-exclusive advance viewing last night. In the future we're going to either play out the win condition if it's practical, or describe the game actions that lead to the win where it's impractical (like with Gitrog loops). For this episode, here's Eliot's description of his winning line: docs.google.com/document/d/1Lk3Mqm2u57I1u-eJjJRrhpAHCdRUWu0mpPKxOwJapWs/edit?usp=sharing - Jim

@lexisanterre6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the gitrog combo is rather complicated in execution, relying on a loop of triggers and responding to your own actions in a very specific order. For people who didn't read the doc above, a simple explaination is thus: He discards Dakmor Salvage, creating a draw from gitrog, then replaces it with the dredge from salvage, thus making an infinite self-mill loop. Then, whenever he mills a land card from his deck, he draws. Combine this with one of the old eldrazi - usually kozilek - or gaea's blessing, means that he can shuffle his graveyard into his deck at instant speed. Basically, the combo allows him to 'tutor' for any number of cards and play them any number of times, and can be done at instant speed. The most likely outlet would be playing dark ritual for infinite mana, then using any sort of black damage instant to win with that mana. I prefer Geth's verdict, but anything will do.

Going to miss taking a peek into your living room and kitchen, but can definitely appreciate a dedicated recording space to reduce the hour+ setup/break-down sessions. Your show is improving hella fast and it is a huge inspiration! We just setup a dedicated space ourselves (which was also a much smaller & enclosed space) and switched to lapel mics which caused some reverb over the ol' Blue Yetis, so we invested in some noise cancelling foam that we just stapled to the walls. Keep up the great work! We also had the issue with the buzzing interference from the lapel mics, which we believe was due to cellphones near the belt receiver.

I think that's probably our next step. We are filming episodes 8, 9, and 10 from Central Canada Comic Con so who even knows how that's going to work! - Jim

Great game! 2:54 - Dryad Arbor cannot tap. 7:33 - You actually do need to declare your target before naming a card. 10:38 - You should have floated mana in case you drew a cycling land. The only exception to this sequencing is when you fear Frog will be removed in response, causing you to waste the floating mana. I don't feel like going back and finding it, but Eliot should have begun the Loam trick as soon as possible. Unless he specifically was searching for protection, there was no reason not to do so.

Small but remember Selvala triggers when any player puts a creature with highest power among creatures into play. So when Elliot played Gitrog he should've drawn a card as the prototypes power is only 5.
@philippzahn98955 жыл бұрын
Hey guys great video. I do have a question about Gitrog. Eliot used the dredge from LFTL and hit 2-3 Lands with one dredge. Why do you only get one Gitrog draw triggers there and not 2-3?
@TheSpikeFeeders5 жыл бұрын
Good question! Gitrog is templated to say "whenever one or more land cards are put into your graveyard from anywhere, draw a card". Dredge puts all the land cards in your graveyard at once so you only get one instance of the trigger. If it was dredge 1 twice, he would have gotten two triggers. - Jim

Thanks! After editing the video, I totally agree. I think if we move them closer and turn the gain down a little bit each player's mic won't pick up as much of the other players' voices. Even though 'choose a card name' comes before 'target player' on Predict, all targets must be chosen (if applicable) when the spell is put onto the stack before it resolves. How that should have gone is: Cast Predict targeting myself, pass priority, okay now that it's resolving I will choose a card name.

Loving the videos guys, but the mobile interference has definitely been an issue for more than a couple of videos. It might be worth leaving phones in another room during recording perhaps?
@TheSpikeFeeders6 жыл бұрын
We can't, unfortunately. To get rid of the echoes you hear in the first few episodes, we changed to lapel mics. Initially we tried USB lapel mics but found that my computer's USB ports couldn't handle the bandwidth of two webcams and four microphones all running at the same time. We changed to lapel mics with a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the only way we could make that work was to have everyone record the audio to their phones. All that being said, we filmed episodes 5, 6, and 7 on the same night before we realized that mobile interference would be an issue. We didn't go back and re-film anything because we figured it would be a waste of footage, but we've implemented some changes that improved things drastically for episode 8 and going forward. - Jim

Thanks for the reply Jim! Yeah I totally understand the limits of this kind of thing, since my friends and I podcast and film ourselves. We've has some success recording on one laptop and filming on another but it does lead to a whole lot more editing on two separate recordings so it's not ideal. Good luck with getting it sorted though, loving the vids otherwise ;D
