If I'm not mistaken, Heliod is only a creature if you have 5 or more devotion (white color pips among your permanents). For the whole game, I don't think Alex had more than three devotion (mother of runes, esper sentinel, and Heliod), so Eliot could theoretically eat Heliod with the haywire mite but Mom could possibly fizzle the ability; I don't know if the ability counts as green or not for sure. On a positive note, it was hilarious when Jim responded to Heliod's machine gun by channeling... his frustration!!!

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20 about threats on the board but the most that Alex ever got up to was 4 Devotion while Haywire Mite was a threat (Heliod, Cathar Commando, Mom, and Esper Sentinel). So the option to just exile Heliod and slow Alex down was there for the majority of the game. But it was tight and a lot of moving parts involved. Edit: He also explains quite well his thought process. I think it's a logical decision in the stretch of the game so can't be too mad about his decision.
