FABRIC RECOMMENDATION * Fellow DIYers! I've made a lovely sofa to this video (thanks Cath!!) and would like to advise you against selecting thick fabrics for the upholstery. I chose the kind of fabric that sweatshirts and hoodies are made of (kinda like flock, woven on the outside, woolly on the inside) because the color was perfect. I ended up having edges that are too thick, and some parts around the armrests aren't ideal. Choose the kinds of fabrics that Cath used, ideally I think kitchen placemats will be great as they are thin and the edges don't fray. Best of luck with your creations!

@dbseamz
@dbseamz 4 жыл бұрын
To elaborate: This is in 1/12 scale, or one inch to the foot. Commonly found on dollhouse dolls. Barbie and most similar fashion dolls are approximately 1/6 scale, two inches to the foot. Some dolls (mainly higher end artisan dolls like BJDs) are 1/4 scale, three inches to the foot. Dolls like American Girl and large BJD style dolls such as Smart Doll fall into the 1/3 scale, four inches to the foot. When in doubt, find the measurements for a real sofa (or whatever you're making) in Imperial measurements (or convert from metric). If it's a whole number of feet (example 5ft), just replace each foot with the number of inches (example: for Barbie, 5ft x 2in to the foot = 10in). If it's in inches (example: 18in), then it's easier to just divide it. (example: for AG, 18in x 1/3 = 18/3 = 6in)

Hint for the legs: you could cut down chop sticks,they already have that tapered end and would save time 👍 other than that this a beautiful sectional sofa very mid century modern 👍😀

An idea for a touch of realism and to cover up the bottoms of the finished couches, you can get the material that they place on the underside of both real couches and mattresses as well. It's the white gauze like material. It would help hide and corners under the couch once the legs are added. Love your videos! I am recently new to the miniatures and dollhouse building and have been building on to my current dollhouse project. It's a lovely Victorian. I subscribed to your channel and you are such an inspiration to me for making items myself. So far I've been purchasing items that are pre-made with some upgrades that I do myself. It's so relaxing to do these. And I enjoy your wonderful tutorials so much. Thanks for sharing these.❤

Couple tips... Don't use fabric glue for the pillows. Just sew them. Glue will likely rip apart when you reverse them but even if it doesn't, reversed seams look awful with glue because the line is never razor-edge straight. For the parts that won't show, like when you secure fabric on the underside, use Fabri-tac glue instead of Aleene's. You don't have to wait for it to dry. It's all around better in many ways, but it is very messy and because it's lower viscosity it can soak through layers so I wouldn't use it for conspicuous sections. This is a gorgeous couch, thank you for this! Wish you had been around when I was making a contemporary dollhouse.

Hi Cath, I juststarted to do another sectional. The last time I had to make the chase pillow smaller, otherwise it big. This time I did the measurements on cardboard to put that together first. I found that the chaise back should 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" and the chase seat should 5 1/4" x 3" in order for it to go together right!
