Musashi, have a look at my 'working with wood' video (link below) for tips and advice on other woods to use. There is also a really good website, www.wood-database.com, where you can find information on all types of wood, and will hopefully find one that is easy to source in your country. Hi Musashi, this isn't a wood I'm familiar with, but have a look at the details on the wood database, I've put a link below. The Janka rating is 300 so it would be easy to cut. Perhaps you could ask for a sample from your wood supplier, before ordering in quantity. Hope that helps. www.wood-database.com/paulownia/

@Carol_Sweet_13 жыл бұрын
I also wondered this
@chriscooper31253 жыл бұрын
I also wondered about this until I started looking at obeche wood online. The pieces you buy are only 3" wide (75mm) so do do it in one piece you would have to cut the piece longwise out of the obeche. Meaning the grain is running in the wrong direction to do the decorative scoring. You can however cut it the way in the video to get the desired effect.
@crexton Жыл бұрын
In your books do you have the cutting measurements? Silly question, but I want to make sure. Thanks!

Given the size, I think you could go for 1/12th scale. The bed is 6 inches long by 5 wide, so cut a piece of card to size and see how that looks in place, that might help you decide.

Hi Julie. Can you tell me why you use two separate pieces for the head and foot board instead of one continuous piece?
@JulieWarren4 жыл бұрын
The headboard needs to be cut so the shortest edge of the wood is in the direction of the grain, so the grooves can be scored. Most craft wood sheets are sold in 3 or 4 inch widths, which wouldn't be wide enough, hence the two pieces. If you don't want the grooves, you can cut from one piece. Hope that helps. :)

Hi, I'm a professional model maker in a totally different field, but my new girlfriend asked me to make this bed for her so I did. Used obeche wood from some place down south. Can I ask why the mattress support is 1mm lower at one end than the other? You line up the footboard end with the bottom of the footboard which is 17mm from the floor (64.5 - (3 + (2 x 1.5) + 41.5) = 17mm) but at the headboard end you only measure 16mm up from the bottom (at 24.19 mins). Is there a reason for this discrepancy? Lovely job though, I've looked at some of your other vids too. Gotta learn to sew now :)
