Illinois police release bodycam video of Sonya Massey killing

An Illinois woman was fatally shot inside her home this month by a sheriff’s deputy who responded to her 911 call, and the deputy is now charged with murder in the case, a prosecutor said this week. Sonya Massey, 36, called 911 on July 6 because she thought an intruder was in her home in the Springfield area, according to the law office of Ben Crump, the civil rights attorney representing her family.

I don't know if I would've done what that cop did -- I would've backed up and maintained a safe distance. But she DID assault him with a weapon that could cause grievous bodily harm and incapacitation, and might further allow him to be disarmed and then killed. Cops are trained to respond to such attacks with deadly force.

In the movie The Exorcist the priest throws holy water on the possessed person chanting "The power of CHRIST compels you" similar to "I rebuke you, in the name of JESUS". This is what first came to mind in reference to what the officer may have thought she meant. After watching the video, the officer had full clarity that the young lady was either totally in fear of the unknown prowler or maybe even slightly having mental issues. She was wear a hospital ID band. When the officer ask about the vehicle parked in her driveway and if she was aware of any damage, the only damage she recalled was a dent. Not smashed windows. As an officer his first thought should have been that someone was outside her home and had broken in her car. At that point the officer should've started to investigate that angle. Turning off his body cam made it clear to me that the officer had bad intentions. I believe he turned off his camera because he was planning on raping a person he deemed not to be fully in her right mind. Maybe not that day, he would return when he was alone. So he needs to enter the home to case the place. This maybe the reason the officer kept inching his way in her home. Did he make a sexual pass at her pre to his partner entering the home? The other officer was running her license plates as you see the main officer speaking to her and entering her home. With his camera and audio off we don't know what he or she said that warranted him entering her home. Also she had made a comment about her meds, which should have triggered the officers that she may be in need of her meds and this would explain her antics. Was the paperwork she was looking for some form of medical records highlighting her mental condition or prescription she needed filled? This is why I believe she asked for their help. In closing he clearly murdered her. Her hands we're up, she stated she was sorry. At a different angle she grabs the pot again and seems to try to throw it but there was a clear none threaten distance between her and the officer's. At this point he had already threatened to shot her in the face, when he was given many signs and should've been fully aware that she may not be all the way there. His bad decision will cost him. He should receive life or even the death penalty. I wonder if he was fired from the other police departments because of some form of sexual harassment or encounters?

She did throw the boiling water at him. Watch all video angles. It is clear that when he responded "YOU BETTER F*CKIN' NOT" and aimed his weapon, he was seeing her pick up the pot the *first* time , prompting her to set it back down and duck. Then she jumped back up , grabbed the pot off the stovetop, and threw it at him (missing him). You can see the steam rising up and then later you see the pot sitting turned upside down on the chair. It's a very quick motion and you can only see it on the shooter's BWC, which is toward the end. I don't know if I would've done what that cop did -- I think I would've backed up and maintained a safe distance. But she DID assault him with a weapon that could cause grievous bodily harm and incapacitation, and might further allow him to be disarmed and then killed. Cops are trained to respond to such attacks with deadly force.

I saw the same thing you saw.I had to slow the video down and kept pausing it frame by frame.Although he didn't have to shoot and kill her.He could've just used his taser.Also he shouldn't have went into her house in the first place.Once they told her they'd searched outside and didn't see anyone,they should've left.

No sir she did have a pot. Nothing was in/on her hands except the mits. Yea she definitely knocked the pot over after he blew her in the face. Yelling out it down while shooting... Obviously IA saw what everyone else saw because they DIDN'T cut him any slack in court. He would've at least have a bond if they saw that. Ijs 🤷🏽
