I can’t help but agree with him. The frustration is real. Look, there are reasons why this band and many others are constantly touring. Playing like 100 shows a year and then attempting to make yet another unplanned album that they probably don’t want to produce anyway, the money is simply not there anymore. Touring is essential. For example: Smashing Pumpkins recently released their No Past No Future No Sun and barley made maybe a 100k off it. The Smashing Pumpkins have way more commercial success compared to The Misfits. I’m using this as an example just to show how difficult these musicians have it. So if you claim to be a hardcore fan of The Misfits or even if your an average fan, buy they’re music, go to they’re shows if you can because if not? Hey one day they’ll be gone and back to their day jobs.

Doyle doesn't have to play nice with anyone. He's a human being with his own personality and experiences. He's not a cheerleader for everyone that's ever heard his work. That being said, I'm sure he actually appreciates his fans - people that give support without any expectations (other than him being a musician) or bullshit. #doyle4life

As someone who actually went to one of the Doyle meet and greets I can say he’s not an asshole at all, he kinda seemed like he’d rather be doing something else but when it’s like 10:30 or 11 at night, I’d be wanting to get all that shit off my face and hop in bed too if I were him, but it didn’t really seem like he absolutely hated having to interact with me. Now I honestly don’t know what to believe at this point but watching this has put things into perspective a bit, if he tours here again I’ll probably still go out to see him

I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to hang out and meet me either LOL! You shouldn't steal music, it's wrong, I come from a Time if you were going to steal the music you had to go to the store. In all seriousness I prefer to own a hard copy. The internet it's just a good way to introduce yourself to do music that maybe you wouldn't have heard of any other way. I don't go to any independent shows from bands that I don't know anymore. Back in the day when I did all the bands would have their merch out t-shirts comic posters and most importantly their music which of the time was either on vinyl or cassette tape. It was cheap maybe you pick a t-shirt up for ten bucks music is self I remember was about $5 for a cassette or $5 for a EP or $10 for full length album. Does anybody remember a band called knife dance? Singer's name was Tom dark, very good!

I'm happy bands are starting to do vinyl...i am sort of against all music only being in digital form (like on itunes or wherever else) because I worry that one day may not be today or tomorrow...could be 100 years from now. It gives out of control government more capabilities of erasing century of history. I still buy my books in paper form.

I didn’t hear the interview you’re talking about but I read one that popped up in my newsfeed. In it the quote was something like “ I don’t want to have to do $50 meet and greets. But I have to in order to make money due to no album sales”. Didn’t seem like he was saying didn’t want to meet fans but being forced to charge money to do it. I’m glad I got to meet the whole band at 3 different Misfits shows back in the 90’s. They always were happy to hangout and sign whatever. The album sales were a lot different then too.

My band opened up for Doyle, twice in Kansas, 2018 But in 2006, I met him in California at Fangoria Weekend of Horrors. At the signing he wasn't too friendly. Doyle seems less then enthusiastic to be interviewed. Some of his interviews that are posted on KZbin, seem, as if he is reserved. Maybe he is introverted.

I mean I get when people say music should be free and accessible to everyone considering how important it is to life, I mean can you really imagine life without music? But also that means that the artists and musicians deserve that much more compensation. They really do get screwed. Doyle has also talked about having severe social anxiety. Whenever he's with his girlfriend Alyssa or Alex Story, or whoever, he usually defers to them to do the talking. Yeah He can come off as rude ( don't we all sometimes?) however, with the right interviewer, I've also seen him really relax and open up and be an absolute sweetheart. My husband met him, said he was standoffish at first, but the more they talked, he started joking and being pretty friendly. I really think it's the social anxiety. People don't understand how hard that is to deal with. Great video guys and great talking points. New sub! 🤘👍

It's a job. Being Doyle gives him 2 things; attention and income. I know from experience that being in a touring band in the metal/punk scene, you will draw undesirable fans. I played in the scene for years and it made me not like most metal heads and punks, despite my love for the music. I've met Doyle several times. He's nice but shy, kinda quiet, a little anti social. Ego is a real thing in the industry. Also, musicians wanna get paid for their work. Doyle ain't making Glenn or Jerry money. I know what Jerry and Glenn are getting paid for each reunion show... Doyle ain't getting anything close to that. The dude has to do solo tours. He needs to keep in mind though, he's their 3rd guitarist. He has the look but he's not a big deal.
@joeylone2427
@joeylone2427 5 жыл бұрын
I also often advise people not to meet their musician or media related icons unless they're prepared to be let down. Celebs are people still. They have moods, feelings, differing views than yours, and they're not in character off stage. Doyle is still Paul Caiafa at the end of the day. I never pay to meet people. I've met Doyle free plenty of times, took pics, hung out on the bus, etc. But if he needs to charge for meet and greets and you'll actually pay.... well that's on you. As a fan you have choices.

When bands like Def Leppard and Poison and Motley Crue do meeting greets it Goes to show that these bands HAVE to do these things because they don't make the money on the music anymore and the only place they make it is merchandice and meet and greets. Record companies have done music no favors in the past 20 years... Think of all the record stores that used to exist 20 years ago that sold records & cd's and merch now they're all gone except for Walmart.

I will NOT pay for anyones music. I listen to the music for free. And I believe the music should be free. HOWEVER, if I like a band I WILL buy their merch and I WILL pay for tickets to see them play a show. But I can't bring myself to pay for an album that only has a couple to a few songs I actually like. And I'm not gonna buy single tracks either. But I will support the band in every other aspect. But that's just me. 🤷🏽‍♂️

@@thewaxmuseum I don't know a single person that really buys music. Everyone I know buys merch and goes to shows. And like you even stated, these guys aren't making money off streaming services (which basically the entire world uses now) and nobody really buys albums anymore. (Occasionally I buy a hard copy album if I like MOST or ALL of the songs on it). So I highly doubt these bands are unable to make a living out of playing music just because they aren't selling records or nobody would be doing it. If you want to make money then tour and sell merch. I have no problem dropping 20-30 on a shirt or 50-100 on a ticket to a show. To me that sounds reasonable.
@thewaxmuseum
@thewaxmuseum 5 жыл бұрын
Thats why so many bands quit and are no longer around.....it costs alot of money to tour...and you cant tour until your on a touring level....people not buying music is what has led to ticket prices going up,merch prices going up....so for those bands they just charge more.....but for smaller bands they just stop all together. If you like a band is $10 for an album really that much money?
@mikekelso420
@mikekelso420 5 жыл бұрын
@@thewaxmuseum modern problems call for modern solutions. Nobody's buying records anymore? Don't have a hundred thousand albums made and instead only release your music for digital download. I for one am not going to knowingly try to sell records to a generation of people that do not buy them anymore. That sounds like a poor investment to me. Secondly putting your music out there for free gets you more exposure and a larger fan base. The more fans you have the more ticket sales and merch sales you will have. And maybe look for more creative ways to make a living off of your music.
@thewaxmuseum
@thewaxmuseum 5 жыл бұрын
Or watch rock music continue to die more and more as it has been....while country artists still sell millions of physical albums. For some reason people who like rock and metal music want it for free while other genre fans have no problem buying it. Its crazy to think Lars was 100% right on what was going to happen. Could you survive if you were paid at your job in "exposure" ? Exposure is free....releasing music is not. Its fine for old bands but for new bands its near impossible to survive......because people think music should be free.
@skoppingeveryday

There are so many bands that overcome the rampant theft by releasing albums so great that fans NEED to own a physical copy. Doyle's solo material is painfully mediocre and uninspired and his sales reflect it. Blaming his unsuccessful solo career on something no one has talked about in years is just sad.

It shouldn't be any surprise to Doyle that people don't buy his CDs, did he even run numbers before deciding to press them? He might have made profits with small run specialty 7"s, something Misfits collectors would actually want. In all his interviews he doesn't seem to be very passionate about the music either, he comes across like people should just buy any crap he puts out because of his name. Speaking of his name, why the hell did he add Von Frankenstein to his name and start wearing all that goofy makeup? Make music and perform because you're passionate about it, don't expect to make a living wage off underground music doing small clubs. The whole Doyle thing is a bad business decision and it's nobody's fault but Doyle if it's not working out for him. That said I follow him on social media and all because he's funny and a real genuine guy but boy is he kinda stupid.

I think Doyle is a good guy but he needs to stop bitching in every interview that people are stealing his music every time. I know I get it, and it's not right , but it's the nature of the beast, the internet. Look at how many high end movie companies have movies pirated and they have millions of dollars to try and lock it down and stop it. Until there is a better there is a better way to control the music it will happen. He knows that it happens in the industry. Better than his motorcycle analogy, If I opened a fruit stand beside the road and had a sign that said apples and oranges a $ 1 each, put a lock box out on the table and just left it there what do you think? Yeah some would leave a dollar but most would take and leave nothing if no one is watching. It's not right but it will happen. Doyle has marketed his self in a unique what that you only know it's him. He is in the entertainment industry and has to realize don't bite the hand that feeds you. Saying he rather not see his fans doesn't help him. I have to go to meeting with clients I rather not spend my time with either, but it's my pay check at the end of the day and I put that happy face on with positive vibe. He should learn that meeting fans that paid for meet and greets is only an hour or so, be happy dude that they are willing to pay. One day they may not and like all of us time goes by fast.

I disagree with the both of you, and Doyle was definitely in the wrong. First of all, I'm going to quote what Kristopher Lizotte said below: "Artists have to understand that streaming services are an investment. It's a way to get their music out into the public and to get new fans." You have to put in the fucking effort after that investment of getting your music out to the public. Performing shows, selling your merch, and engaging with the fans. Napster and Limewire is a thing of the past, sharing & downloading music from KZbin and other sources is always going to be a thing, and so will online music streaming services. Doyle needs to get the fuck over it, not be an ungrateful shit to his fans, and see that if he wants to have a successful career, he needs to catch up just like the rest of today's independent musicians who are adapting and fighting to change the way the music industry works, and that's by being your own businessman. I know plenty of musicians who are becoming successful just by managing themselves. It's hard, but they get to make a career out of it because There ARE fans who are willing to support their favorite artists with their hard earned cash. Music theft is hardly a thing anymore.
