It's just sad to me to see a whole neighborhood looking like this. Can you imagine the despair people feel who have to live around this day in and day out? I guess I can understand why they feel like giving up. If I walked out of my house to see this every single day, I'd walk right back inside and go back to bed. It's surly not that homey feel that they probably were looking for and had when they first moved in. All that garbage laying there right behind that security gate at that one business is crazy. The only way it got behind that gate is if someone from the inside did that. That also to me is a riddle. These business owners invest money to make it go and then in the end they turn it into a junkyard, Makes you wonder how much they ever cared about their business in the first place. Maybe they just start out hoping to get rich quick and nothing more. How crazy is that, that a liquor store and bar are the only things still open. So obviously you can see what the neighborhood priorities of the people who live there are. Just drink your day away because all hope for anything more productive than that is gone. Man!! Not the kind of life I would love either. One thing your videos do for me, is to make me grateful for even the smallest luxury I have, because that alone is priceless. Grateful, thankful, blessed ... that's what I am. RIP to this once thriving neighborhood. I hope one day things will turn around and it will make a glorious comeback.

A few of those raggedy buildings have owners!! Hard to believe, but true!! People were fined for not maintaining their property when I was a little girl and a teenager!! But somewhere down the line, that ordinance went away I guess………😡 Always, always be careful and mindful, Storm ❤

Great video Mr.Storm. Do you remember an iconic restaurant on the corner of Ridge Road & Broadway? It was the Beauty Spot.Their parking lot was next to Ridge Road and the restaurant took up the next 2 store fronts. They had good food and carry-out. That big lit-up sign they had was a landmark.

I ate at the Beauty Spot several times but mostly at the Chuck Wagon a couple blocks to the west on Ridge Road.

Oh this brings back memories, grandparents lived on Massachusetts St we would walk to the Walgreens and they had a lunch counter back in the 60's and 70's. Beauty Spot was a great place to eat, Grandpa would walk me to Shaver Chevy to look at the new cars when they came in. I even remember as a kid my parents buying bunk beds at Lane Furniture for me and my brother. Mom worked up Broadway at IUN for 30 years and then retired. Almost forgot Glen Park Bakery was the best!!!!

I was a kid back in the 70's ( 3800 block on Adams Street Glen Park) and I cannot believe how far it has fallen. 39th and 38th blocks of Washington street looks like the Gaza Strip. Just destroyed. On the west side of Broadway was the music store, ( used to have bands play outside once in a while) and a bakery, as well as a Mom and Pop jewlery store. My family recognized things were changing when an adult book store opened just north of Glen Park school on Broadway. Harveys and Dickersons use to be the place(s). We left in the summer of 1973. Seems it has been in a downward spiral since. I appreciate these video's, as it bring back some good memories of Glen Park .

Thank you, Dave. I am so sorry. I just now seen your message. My good man. I’ve seen a couple guys boarding up the buildings and they said they had just bought them at a sheriff sale a couple years ago. They need to just bulldoze that and turn it into parking or some kind of new opportunity for a business to be built there. I really appreciate you reaching out and let me know you’re enjoying the videos and I hope to hear more from you soon brother thank you so much. I really appreciate your message. 🫵😎🫵💯⛈️‼️

J Jerry Baboo was born in 1905 according to Find a Grave. That means he had to have retired around 1970. So almost 55 years since he left. I wonder when the sign was put up? 🤔 Edit: I went and looked in old phonebooks. It shows up in the phonebook first time in 1959.

Now of course comes dilemma number two in which Broadway being a major Street doesn't look too great if you have too many vacant Lots. So Comes The Dilemma who's going to build there. They're having a special on TV regarding the transformation of a major old abandoned building in Detroit and it basically comes down to getting one company to put their US headquarters in Gary. If you jump-start one it can lead to others and it won't happen overnight but at least one would see some progress
@A.D.R.J.Coleman7 ай бұрын
I believe that little building was a record store at one time! I think they should give all these abandoned houses to these rehab guys and then once the house sells they can recoup their money or donate them to a homeless or veteran organization! Binny's has been there for years

How's the violent crime rate? I think gary gets a bad rap due to the theft and murder which prevents people from developing new business and investing in the city
@TheSteelCityStorm7 ай бұрын
It seems things are getting better as far as violent crimes go. It does not seem like there’s much action or much to Rob and Gary. There are a lot of new companies coming in such as trucking and big fiber optic companies. Hopefully that will one day better the Gary infrastructure, and, help tear down all these old structures not to cleaning the place up
