Wow, I thought after 40 years in business was bad to close, but 88 is just unreal. Sounds like it was a family business that got passed down. It's just a shame to see it dissolved. You sure can tell those structures are old. A lot of these kinds of places have closed up now though. I guess it's just a sign of the times like everything else. These kinds of businesses always seemed to look the same. You always just knew when you found a place with fresh products just by the looks on the outside. I miss these kinds of places. We even had them in a big city like Chicago. I hope one day this kind of thing makes a comeback, even though I'm not holding my breath. Thanks for the video, Paul. I hope you have a wonderful and joyous New Year!

They used to have live chicks there and I remember going there when my kids are small just to see them. When my mom seen the video, she said that she used to go there all the time. I was surprised myself when I seen it was 88 years that’s crazy. Like you said you can tell the old building is slowly crumbling because it was built with a lot of wood. I’m glad I remembered about this one and got it on a video before it gets demolished. It’s right across the street from the big hospital in Hobart so I’m sure they’ll be using that prime real estate sometime soon. We just got back from my cousins having dinner and got to see a lot of family. It was a good time. I hope you are doing well and happy holidays to you, my wonderful friend. ❤️🫵😉🌸🌹

I grew there too in 50’s and remember how nice those homes once were and what a vibrant city Gary once was.
@anthonyjackson14466 сағат бұрын
Nice video and all of Gary, But that damn train on you guys main street that being Broadway is very disrespectful to the residents that reside there, that’s a main thoroughfare or main passage through the city and to have that many cars attached to it is out right disrespectful imagine an emergency 🚨 vehicle or vehicles trying to get to a scene as quickly as possible and having to wait or call another fire 🔥 police 👮♂️ or ambulance 🚑 to the emergency etc. That should be limited to 5 to 10 train cars only type when passing on a major main street like that, But that is up to the residents and the mayor to change that.. But again nice video and thanks for posting videos from your city..🙌🏼👍👏🏼🏢📸🤗

Wow, 40 years in business and now gone. That's really sad. I think Covid was the end of so many restaurants like this. Not just during the pandemic but for years to follow. Once it was over, then they had to try and recover, and so many just couldn't. It hurt so many small businesses. I felt so bad during that time for the food service industry though. As I kept seeing these places close, I realized how important they were for the communities they served. Now, whenever I can I support small businesses because they are the cornerstones of our neighborhoods. They are the ones that broke their backs to put their neighborhoods on the map. Our government should have taken better care of them when they had the chance to. To create a shutdown and not support them when they needed it most was irresponsible and heartless. Just my opinion but I think many people felt the same way.

Was this the old Abbots restaurant? I remember riding my bike to downtown Hobart to the comic book store, the Art Theater and Nostalgia Video to rent movies when I was a kid. Eating at Tee’s pizza after football games at the old Brickie Bowl in the 80’s. Playing basketball at Pennsy Park by the train station! Great times

I ate here quite often and knew the family well. George was always the best to me and my daughter as were the rest of the family and the staff. Pete always enjoyed seeing a card trick. Good food, very fair priced and great people.

Wow the moment I saw the name it brought back a flood of memories. For the three days back in 2000 when my buddy was working on the video for Inland Steel this was our meeting place with some of their folks and we had a nice smooth start to the day over a great breakfast. It's been about 8 years since I had a lunch here and it's just sad to see one of those downtown fixtures suddenly uprooted. I guess I'll have to travel more often

You're right by my younger sisters house off Liverpool. I remember Gilroy stadium. My dad played baseball on a team there, lol. Our doctor was in the big building on the southwest corner of 5th and Broadway. On 4th and Polk in the White townhome looking things was my moms parents house and on 3rd and Cleveland was my dads parents. Have you driven down the main street in Miller? Do you remember Luigis Pizza and Jack Spratt ice cream there? Do you remember the Sunday meals at the YMCA on 5th Avenue or Jacks Waffle house on the north side of 5th Avenue somewhere near Broadway? Good old days. I love these trips through Gary.

You gifted us with a nice winter ride in the countryside. Thank you for the Xmas present. I used to drive a lot from Kouts to Hebron to Valpo back in the 80's. The two roundabouts on Rt 2 are new. Other than that not much has changed and I kind of like it that way. Thanks for the ride. Happy Holidays.

I love the beginning and end of this. You guys look like cartoons, Lol. Another nice, peaceful calm drive. I remember when I was little, my dad used to take us for drives like this. They were trips to nowhere but now they are the best of memories. Maybe that's one reason why I like to watch these. It reminds me of those days. I love how your music changes with the scenery. You guys have gotten some snow there. So far nothing for us yet but a trace about a month ago. The average snow fall down here is about three inches for the whole season. That seems so funny to me coming from Chicago. Then, what we do get melts really fast, usually the same day. I kind of like that there's no salt on the roads here. I'm sure you know like I do how much it ruins your car. That I don't miss. I sure do miss the area though! That's why I love watching your videos. Well, you guys have a safe and happy New Year! I hope it's the best year ever for you guys!! Be safe and take care my friend. Hope to see you again in the New Year sometime. In the meantime, here's a toast to friendship 🥳🎉🥂

I hope you and your family have a wonderful new year too! 🥳🎉🥂 I love the change you know the seasons. I have moved away many times as I told you before and I feel the same way. I always miss the area because of the four seasons. It’s been a very mild winter. I hate salt all over this area they use on the roads. That’s why I take the van and get it ran through the car wash almost every day when the salt is out. I look forward to seeing you again, my friend next time we are out we’re gonna have to spend a little bit more time hanging out. Here is a toast to our friendship. I am glad that I met you. You are a wonderful person and I’m proud to call you a friend. TOAST OF FRIENDSHIP TO US 🥂❤️🫵

Love this calming drive with that great music to go along with it. It is the day after Christmas when I am watching this so it's the perfect time for calm after all the chaos. It seems like it is quiet there with the snow cover. Snow always seems to deaden the sounds that you normally hear during any other season. It's kind of nice really. I remember walking around outside after a decent snow fall and only hearing the sound of the snow crunching under my feet and nothing else. Sometimes it makes you feel like you're the only one left living in the word because it's so quiet. I sure hope that you, Diane and all of your family had a great Christmas Paul. Once I'm out of winter hibernation I hope I can come back down that way and visit with you again. Looking forward to that anyway because I love Spring when the weather gets better. It makes me want to start moving again. The good thing about winter is it gives me a break and time to breath. So, every season has a reason I guess. Anyway, New Years is in just a few more days and I hope it brings you and yours nothing but good health, wealth and loads of happiness!! 🥰❤
