I grew up in one of the river-adjacent neighborhoods in edmonton. Last year Steve did a video near my friends' childhood home, and when my friends' mom mentioned noticing "A homeless person sleeping in the tree-heavy area behind them the other week", I showed her the video and told her it may just have been a youtuber. She had a good laugh.

There's a homeless guy in the woods by my house in Northern Illinois. Me and a few others have him pretty well equipped. Tent, sleeping bag, stove, utensils, warm clothes, gloves, sox, etc. His biggest challenge has been keeping his water from freezing. I gave him an insulated bag, but it won't work longer than a day or 2. We'll figure it out. Anyway, he's a fan of yours.
@brucehalleran1149
@brucehalleran1149 7 күн бұрын
Too late for this year, but ground tie the water bottle. Dig a hole, big enough. Cover with leaves. A bit of plastic can improve the insulation. Fire stones cycled through the hole can keep this going into January. Eventually you have to sleep with your water bottle. This trick also reduces the hot plastic tea effect in the summer.

For most of my life I’ve always looked at bushes, scrubby little forests on the side of highways, and little hidden spots behind buildings and stuff and thought “huh, I could hide there if I needed to for some reason”. This series kinda confirms for me that I’m not the only one with this compulsion!
@kruksog
@kruksog 10 күн бұрын
I get the vibe that Steve spent some time being homeless. Just subtle things in the way he talks about his craft, and the way he operates. Not to say your compulsion isn't awesome and fun, but I think Steve found this activity out of necessity at some point. I don't actually know that to be true, but having been friends with a lot of homeless kids, and having been pretty close to homeless a few times, there are just certain things he does and says that makes me think that. Cheers!

The entire concept of "stealth" camping makes me think about how we in the US and Canada (and more countries, I'm sure) have privatized land and criminalize staying outside. It makes me happy to see someone think "hey, I wanna try camping here" and go out and explore the urban world and all its beautiful little corners. These have become really soothing to watch before bed to help me fall asleep. Cheers!

This brings back memories, I used to do this when I was houseless in Oregon, old habits go hard cause I still eye thick bushes and think to myself "that's a great spot." But back when I was on the streets I had a small community so we'd circle up our tents and there was always someone there to watch gear while the rest went into town to scrounge up food and supplies. I've thought about doing educational videos or training but didn't have the necessary tech, kudos on you for teaching people the proper way to survive out there.

And seeing this reminds me of that. It is honestly a cool feeling to have your little spot where you even feel comfortable to leave your stuff if necessary and explore around and go back to a hidden spot to sleep where there might be a lot going on around but nobody can see you. I was cleaning out my attic the other night and stood awkwardly and nearly fell. Luckily Steve was doing a stealth came up there and grabbed me before i fell. Thanks Steve You're a life saver 🙌

Me too! I think Steve might worry about it getting repetitive but the urban camping vids are always so good. Something weird always happens. Also he worries so much about being seen, and here I am in Portland OR surrounded by areas with people sleeping in the bushes. @@campingwithsteve

Steve, you could upload a video of you camping in your kitchen and I’d still be interested. My wife cracks up at my interest in your videos. You’re a special person and I hope you know we appreciate any Steve content we can get!

I'm seriously thinking of taking my cheap eBay hammock out into the yard and camping in it one day... Once the mosquitoes become less of a problem (I'm in Australia so it's summer). I might even see if the kids want to join me in such a ridiculous activity.

@@tin2001 Definitely get the kids involved! I used to camp in our yard with my dad growing up. Sometimes it was just fun to sleep outside even if it was in the backyard. Great memories so I hope you do it.

These are the ones I like the most. In a bush, on a main road. None of this hiding in a truck business, just good and proper as nature intended.
