This is the complete audiobook of the Enuma Elish : The Babylonian Epic of Creation that also comes with commentary. I hope that you all enjoy this awesome work that helps us better understand ancient Mesopotamian Mythology, Religion and Civilization.
The Enuma Elish (also known as The Seven Tablets of Creation) is the Mesopotamian creation myth whose title is derived from the opening lines of the piece, "When on High". All of the tablets containing the myth, found at Ashur, Kish, Ashurbanipal's library at Nineveh, Sultantepe, and other excavated sites, date to c. 1200 BCE but their colophons indicate that these are all copies of a much older version of the myth dating from long before the fall of Sumer in c. 1750 BCE.
As Marduk, the champion of the young gods in their war against Tiamat, is of Babylonian origin, the Sumerian Ea/Enki or Enlil is thought to have played the major role in the original version of the story. The copy found at Ashur has the god Ashur in the main role as was the custom of the cities of Mesopotamia. The god of each city was always considered the best and most powerful. Marduk, the god of Babylon, only figures as prominently as he does in the story because most of the copies found are from Babylonian scribes. Even so, Ea does still play an important part in the Babylonian version of the Enuma Elish by creating human beings.

Absolutely not. The Sumerian tale only corroborate the Genisis narrative, only war corrupted by time due to copying, just like a broken telephone and DNA mutations (that was the cause for the paganism of gentiles). "Eridu was given to Nudimmud" - this is Nimrod! The Biblical story was first, only in oral tradition by Noah, the righteous man, and those archeologists were clearly biased like Darwin. The flood was not local and the Sumerian narrative clearly shows it. Nick, you can deny and question the Bible! Why did you do it? Had you not chose this path, you would still be here with us! The Sumerians and Akkadians were Shinar - Nimrod's descendants, and they twisted the true narrative by Nimrod's command, in order to make all peoples not worship God. Poor Nick, we wished you'd understand before it was too late. Very sad😿☦️🇷🇺

@@kjeldoran38 perhaps you misunderstand me. First my claim that there are no other gods is not based on the God of Abraham's claim. Simple logic could lead one to such a conclusion. Second your opinion that such claim as the uniqueness of YHWH was not made originally in the Biblical text is just that your opinion based on no evidence. Sure you are free to believe that, but again it is just your false belief.

Funny how these so-called scholars get their facts wrong. Genesis was written by Moses, not by Hebrew scribes. The Spirit of God inspired His servant and he wrote down what he was instructed to write. These, "scholars", claim that Hebrew scribes wrote Genesis, and that pagan myths and false gods were the inspiration for Genesis. And is it any wonder that those who don't believe and hate God and truth, would do what they can to discredit the truth and trustworthiness of God's word?

I'm late with a comment, but this is a great reading of a great text. It provides some nice insight into some of the universal aspects of human creativity. Sometimes ancient writing, evolving as an accounting tool, can give the mistaken impression that ancient people were blunt and simple, so it's nice to have examples that connect us to complexity, nuance, and emotion.

History = The story of the light vs the dark. Pottery found 3 billion years old in south Africa. Their story starts 33,000bc. To try to wipe out the light. The Epic of Gilgamesh ALL the deadsea scrolls Dungeons and dragons or lord of the rings. The bible, Quran, Torat. The talmud of babylon 500ad. Sauron the shapeshifter (lord of the dark) Saruman ( sargon the great 24th century bc and the orcs) (Anu and enki, the annunaki, their son nabu and his son molech, the babylonian akkadian empire 1097bc) Baphomet (molech moloch or marduk) Adam and lilith his first wife, then it was eve. Moses al nasi, kish or kush of sudan, with lots of gold. In leviticus and exodus. "Stop worshiping molech, stop eating the children". Worship a calf, like the calfs heads buried in the royal tombs of mount elephantine. Mount elephantine and Sinai, banished by the Egyptians also known as the mighty olmecs of good. The ebi nari hebrew banished and crossed the river to Saudi Arabia (also dark royal bloodline) and moses son evidence found in Yemen. King Solomon the famous demonologist and the founder of freemasonry, with books such as lesser key of Solomon, the grand grimoire and codex gigas the devil's bible found on the Vatican. The book, the testament of king Solomon. Alexander the great, greek, his relative Cleopatra, all worship the same deities, but not the real pure peoples of the levant of ugarit and the very ancient Turks. ......... The bloodline royal Atlantian, (the house of atlantis in bremen, studying the arian race, Hitler's favourite) annunaki, akkadian, babylonian, hel lenistic, ptolemy, roman, judahism, Christian, askenatzi, zion. Jesuit, judahist, greek frankist, Latins, sabines romans. Funny hebrew was so insignificant that the later versions of the old testament were written in coptic, Greek with Egyptian. Why? Because original true jews are Syrians of the ugarit as documented in Egyptian texts, a dialectic of ancient aramaic, aramaic, Egyptian, sanskrit, Arabic. Mary magi and the holy grail. Like James, Jesus brother. The anicent aramaic, born northern galiliee, modern lebanon, nazarene. Yes, he was an essene. Glamorise the dark, because in reality it is weak.

No I don’t think you get it. Supreme beings CANNOT be killed. This is only a temporary victory and they are coming back. Especially TIAMAT. Notice when absu was killed they didn’t bother with his CORPSE. Bc he was REALY dead, likely bc he was NOT a supreme being. But look at the ENORMOUS time Mardoch took with TIAMAT. “Don’t let her water run” he says. I theorize that to mean no matter where you put her she will eventually reconstitute and their ONLY goal was to make it take as LONNNNGG as possible. and that’s likely why the world hasn’t know a female goddess in forever except for in mythology. It’s also likely that she’s coming back bc all the lesser gods are ALL dead bc they weren’t supreme and while they may live long and seem immortal, and THEY are really NOT. And if they are dead, they likely aren’t around to keep her BOUND, hence the coming back. Have you heard any such thing? That the real goddess has awakened and coming back? I’ve heard it in many circles now. And I think if it’s true (I don’t really know if it’s true or not), men are doomed.

If you look back before this, approx. 2800bc the mesopotamians knew 'Enki' (god associated with water, knowledge, crafts and creation) and 'Enlil' (god associated with wind, air, earth, and storms later know as 'Elil'). 'Enlil' was the warrior leader 'sent down' from the heavens who later told another of their kind, 'Mami' to create a workforce . . . us. According to surviving texts from that ere it was also 'Enlil' that failed when trying to control our population growth with plagues, famine etc and decided to wipe us all out with a massive flood yet failed again when a man ('Atrahasis') saved his family and numerous local wildlife within a floating vessel forming the basis for the story of 'Noah' within the bible.

It was written that when the Igigi (watchers) rebelled against their creators (Anunaki), they refused to mine the most sought after gold. The creators banished the Igigi (Fallen ones) and made men (Adamu-slave ) to serve them instead. At first the Anunakis created all men (male) and decided to finish them off after their gold mining is done because they would not procreate as there were no women. Enki secretly created women. When the Anunakis returned after several hundred thousand years, they found that humans have increased in population. The Anunakis then decided to teach men to live in a right way. However, the Igigi, angry with the Anunaki for banishing them, decided to corrupt mankind to thwart the Anunakis creation by taking for themselves women as wives and taught men all the arts that was forbidden by the Anunakis. And hence Giants Nephillim were born on the earth (Book of Enoch- and they taught men the cutting of the roots(DNA)) And men became corrupt in all his ways. The Anunakis decided to wipe out mankind by bringing about the floods. However, once again Enki secretly told Noah to build an ark and save themselves and mankind once again.

As I am listening to this, I am struck by how often phrases are repeated. This makes for odd reading and sounds strange to be read aloud but makes perfect sense as the chorus of a song. I wonder if these epic "poems" were actually meant to be sung instead of slowly read aloud. We know what some of their musical instruments were like. I would like it if somebody set these words to music made by traditional Sumerian instruments. Or maybe even an acapella singing of the poem. That would be neat.

Appreciate info. You do know that Genesis was a polemic? Basically it was a treatise against all of these creation narratives. So of course there would be similarities… The point of Genesis is that it corrects the error where need and affirms where they are correct. It’s not an “historical” book. But, many believe, as do I, it contains historical things. Cheers! Love your work. Thanks for all you are doing

The Hebrew Israelites scriptures didn’t take anything from Babylon. Father Abraham was originally from that area of the world and I’m pretty sure all the people of the old world held those legends of Creation passed down to them from one common ancestor and the Sons of the Elohiym aka Allaha’yam were much more present in the earth at that time. If a father has 3 sons and teaches them all the same knowledge then they all will have the information and each will pass down that info to their descendants in slightly different ways but with similar themes. Israelites, Egyptians and Babylonians all interacted with each other throughout their existence. It’s likely that they all had influence on each other’s cultures and legends.

Probable there's a whole one story of the world. The situation with the Hebrew one is that it does not give merit to those other Anunakies and made mandatory the believing in one god and the killing and abolition of the others with their peoples. One thing is writing based on and providing sources, the other one is plain plagiarism. When I read the bible when I was a child I felt the extraterrestrial presence and the human characteristics of God and their followers and I couldn't make any difference between the Bible and the supposed mythologies. Even with Jesus Christ, I found out that he is a type of Prometheus or Mithra. Nice, though.

I think it's entirely possible they dug up some dinosaur bones and imagined them as dragon like creatures with lion or eagle like traits as their closest modern analogues. I can't find the picture but there were Babylonian "lion" carvings with long necks and tails like an apatosaurus. The fossils have always been there in the ground but we didn't have modern paleontology till about 200 years ago, so any more ancient representation would appear more mythological.

The Enuma Elish is without any doubt an important document for the history of mankind. But it is not a real description of factual events. At first, we must skip super natural powers. And deities can not control planets. In my opinion, it describes the collision of two planets. The planet Nibiru and the planet Tiamat. After the collision the remains of Tiamat are mentioned planet Earth. That planet Nibiru has a symbol that we find on many cylinder seals. An eight beamed star, mostly with a clear nucleus in the centre. The planet Earth has a moon crescent as symbol. The planet Nibiru is inhabited and those inhabitants came to the earth. Because of the collision the planet Earth was no longer completely covered with water. There was land, mountains, rivers and lakes with sweet water. The problem is that planet Nibiru still crosses the ecliptic plane from the planets around our sun every few thousand years because its orbit is eccentric. Depending on the distance to the ever moving planets, it causes havoc on at least the planets Mars and the Earth. On our planet this havoc is best known as Noah's Flood. And that crossing is the cause that civilizations arise and vanish in a fixed schedule. To learn more about recurring floods. the cycle of civilizations and its timeline, ancient high-tech and alien deities, read the e-book: "what I know about Nibiru". You can read it nicely on every computer, tablet or smartphone. Just search for: know nibiru
@tomvan6008
@tomvan6008 2 жыл бұрын
I do think it's factual, This is just using the Anunnaki gods (Enki, Marduk...etc.) as representing planets. Apsu and Mummi are the Sumerian words for the Sun and Mercury. Because it was written in Babylon they would of course call Nibiru Marduk. Just as Inanna represented Venus. There should be a planet where the asteroid belt is now. The Sumerians called that "the hammer Bracelet" This is the creation of our "Solar System" and not the universe. It was a battle story. Uranus is lying on its side. Venus rotates very slowly in the opposite direction. Our Moon (Kingu) is way too big in relation to our planet. The Sumerians called our planet the "cleaved one" as it was the top half of The watery giant Tiamet when hit by one of Nibiru's moons.

The Enuma Elish is myth, not history. It is the Sumerian people’s attempt to explain their existence and the world they inhabited. There were no alien gods who came to earth from a nonexistent planet to clone humans. Life on this planet evolved over 4.5 billion years. I love mythology. I’ve been studying it for over 50 years, but I’ve never dreamed of taking it literally.

@@nibiruresearch This planet formed 5 billion years ago. Life began to evolve here 4.5 billion years ago. Aliens did not come down from the nonexistent planet Nibiru and cloned human beings. We have hominid fossils 7 million years old. Australopithecus first appeared 4.5 million years ago. The genus Homo first appeared around 3 million years ago, Homo Sapiens between 200,000 and 300,000 years ago, long before Sumer. The Hubbell telescope has been exploring our galaxy for nearly 34 years now, sending back amazing pictures. If there was a planet hiding behind Neptune, it would have caught it. The story of life evolving on this planet is amazing enough without fantasies of beings from outer space cloning us. Anyone who lived through Covid should understand that living things evolve over time. Why would you think that the Sumerian creation myth is any more accurate than the Polynesian myth of the earth riding on the back of a giant turtle?

Remember also that Babylon was ruled by the Jew called Daniel and that much Jewish influence was imposed on the Babylonians, who came to acknowledge the Jewish Christian God ALEYM (Elohim) under King Nebuchadnezzar... You make a lot of assumptions without evidence to try and sway listeners to your incorrect opinions... Your empire was amazing. I have studied a small fraction of your history. Your current politics is extremely complicated, and I certainly will not add my view. To be honest, I am simply not knowledgeable on the subject. Although, I will make a passing comment on Saddam Hussein, based upon your politics since his death. I watched the video of his hanging, and I admit, I'm divided on my perspective of him. One of the executioners asked him, "are you afraid to die"? He replied, I have been fighting against Jihadists my entire career...He said, no, I'm not afraid to die. Previously, I determined that if a strong man didn't run his own country, then it would fall to militias and Jihadists. It appears to be the case. I believe, you are right that Saddam most definitely needed to instill fear, as a means to sustain law and order. However, it is very possible he went mad, in the same manner as Nebuchadnezzar II. And destined his own destruction. As you know, Nebuchadnezzar was the most powerful king in the world. He had a dream that was interpreted by Daniel (who was in prison at the time), a Hebrew exiled to Babylon when Nebuchadnezzar sacked Jerusalem and the Temple of God. After hearing of his dream, the king eventually built a 90 cubic statue of himself, and demanded that the people bend down to worship it, upon the sound of certain musical instruments. It was his downfall. It's in the Bible. Please regard it as a book of history, because it is. God will not allow man to assume HIS place. This happened to the last native Egyptian Pharaoh also, who claimed he made the Nile and was all powerful. You are from an ancient people of the strongest empire on earth. I can't say if your country could ever be a Republic, such as my country, USA. It would be wonderful if it was, but I doubt it would ever happen. Your government is too reliant on its oil. They don't seem to see past it. Also, I heard that different sects of the Iraqi people do not accept history prior to Islam. I am assuming this point of view is from Jihadists. I can't wrap my head around it. The history of your country is like no other. You invented writing, mathematics, geometry, etc., and yet, the Iraqi people are denying their ancient history and achievements which began the entire civilization movement in the world! I am a Christian. Can you even imagine how many of us would love the opportunity to see ancient Assyria, Akkadia and Babylon for ourselves? Egypt claims to be the Cradle of Civilization, it is not true! Your country is and will always be. It is my hope that Iraq finally receives a strong ruler, who will eliminate the militias and Jihadists once and for all. NEOM in Saudi Arabia is aiming to be the next hub of the region (Dubai is done). You have so must more to offer than Saudi Arabia. You might want to google how many Christians there are in the world, then multiple that in dollars, euros, yen, etc., they would spend in your country to see all the places, events and things mentioned in the bible. Not to mention, all the jobs that tourism would bring to the Iraqi people. Just saying....

Correct me if I’m wrong here, respectively, but this documentary states that the enuma Elisha is an inspiration for the mosaic texts of The Bible. This story begins with a pantheon of gods and their inter family chaos. Where their noisy children disrupt the fathers work and decides to kill them and the mother seeks out the revenge of her children killing her mate. And another god kills a goddess and parts her body to the sky and earth spheres for humans. And the purpose of humans was to be the restorers of order in the world of gods and their chaos. Making humankind the heroes of this creation story…… When the biblical text is the complete opposite in that humankind are in ourselves chaos and we need God to save us from the disasters we create. And nowhere in Genesis is God fighting for His work to not be disrupted or dividing another deity for the uses of humankind. God simply creates and breathes creation. I understand this is a creation story of another religion, but to say they are identical is being ignorant to the clear differences. It makes sense that a man made story would set man up to be the victor or the solution to a divine issue. But The Bible states over and over again how humankind is in need of a Savior, who is Jesus Christ.I appreciate the authenticity of the ancient texts and myths presented in this video. But the bias assumption is off based and untrue.

Bel and Baal were similar words used by semites for a higher god,it means "lord". The cananites and Phoenicians called Hadad Ba'al but Bel was used in Babylonia for Marduk.

For argument sake, let up suppose that the Annunaki are responsible for our creation. Fast forward to the story of the flood and compare it to the Hebrew version of the flood. Most scholars, theologians, and historians agree that the Sumerian story and the Hebrew version are the same. The Hebrew version has God promising he will never flood the earth again. In the Sumerian version, "Enlil was angry to discover that some humans had survived his wrath." HIS WRATH. Anyone who is familiar with the Sumerian story will agree that it was Enki's idea to create the working lulu, man. It was Enlil who was against our creation. Enlil did not support the idea. Enlil despised man, he hated our creation so much that he deliberately neglected to inform Enki of the coming deluge. Enlil's traits were that of jealousies, he despised man so that he often threatened them, he was vindictive. The Bible tells us that God describes himself to be a jealous god. He is also vindictive, and often threatens man. And he also says, "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me". In the Hebrew version it is only one god, therefore, what other gods is he referring to? It makes a lot more sense in the Sumerian story full of gods. According to the Sumerian Tablets, the Sumerians refer to Enki as the Father of all humanity, simply because it was Enki who created us. Of course we know that Enki's name is not in any part of the Hebrew bible. In the movie poster for "The Ten Commandments" actor Charlton Heston is pictured holding two tablets, one under each arm. Needless to say, the tablets are not real, but the writing on the tablets is. It's in ancient Phoenician language, and reads from right to left as written from right to left. The first 4 letters on the tablet under Charlton Heston's left arm reads out as ENKI. First of all, how did the ENKI name find its way onto tablets that supposedly represent the Hebrew version? Secondly, might there be that chance that Enlil decided to take on the personification of the god of day or god of light as perceived prior to Monotheism? And therefore, might there be a strong suspicion that all of society just might be praying to the wrong god? The ancient Hebrew texts tells us that God supposedly has a 4-letter name, but through the generations deliberately forgot it for the sake of not using his name while cursing others. Might that be just a cover-up lie so that later on down the line we can't know who really is our God or who really created us? Is Enki the father of all humanity? Enki and Enlil were rivals. Satan in Hebrew means adversary. It is not a name. According to the Sumerian Tablets Enki also happens to be Enlil's adversary on behalf of all humanity. Something fishy going on in Western religion. They say if the numbers don't seem to add up, that's probably because the truth wasn't added to the equation.

The Bible was written by men, not God. That’s why it is so full of contradictions and variations. Some of these contradictions have been smoothed out in editions like the King James Bersion, but are still present in any scholarly edition. My favourite for actual study, is the Anchor Bible.

Annunaki brought us wheat. It is not natural to this planet nor digestible for humans. Same with corn. Which the Indians worked with to make it edible for humans but we still can not digest it.

Great video! Enuma Elish had a lot of parallels with Hesiod's Theogony (8th century BC). In fact ancient Greeks called the sea Thalata/Thalassa a close word to Tiamat.Later classical writers even considered her a goddess- wife of Pontus (who had the same role as Apsu). Tiamat appearence is also identical to Typhon.But his story is similar to Kingu.

Kengir (Sumer) was just a bit older than Kemet (Egypt). In fact lower Egypt before the unification made by Menes/Narmer copied a lot of inovations made by the sumerians. Sumer was the first civilization, but Egypt was the first proper state.

Nothing so handily shows the ridiculousness of all religions like the study of as many religions as you can ! I am a confirmed atheist, and I have never been happier! While I was trying to find peace of mind in theistic religions, I was miserable!! I am a secular Buddhist. Buddhism is a religion that allows for God or gods, but is just as effective in bringing peace and joy to atheists as to theists!❤❤❤

I don't share the great opinion of this that other commenters have given. Within the first few minutes I found several major errors. For one, it is not even close to "possibly the oldest tale." It comes quite late, about 1200 BC.

@@sliccnicc3 There is no stealing. Both reflect a reality that happened - a continent-wide flood (several thousand miles) happened wiping out humanity except for Noah and family. What's remarkable about the Bible is the extensive genealogies of the human race listed in Genesis. Recent genetic study indicate that Noah's FLOOD happened just over 100,000 years ago -- there was a extinction/salvation event for mammals including we humans.

@@ivermectin7928 a genetic study now about 4 years old confirms an extinction and salvation event for 90% of mammals (including we - humans) about 100,000 years ago. Other genetic studies show that the human population was down to maybe 40 people over 60,000 years ago (Noah and family including children - maybe around 40 people on the Ark). So genetic science is beginning to VALIDATE the Noah and the flood and salvation of humans and animals with lungs (breath of life) or mammals account. Amazing -- isn't it?
