Pretty funny how much Anakin and Dooku hate eachother despite being so alike in their respective jedi days (Except their backgrounds which couldn't be more opposite.). Man, in some alternate reality where Dooku never started conspiring with Palps, I could see him strong-arming the council into letting him train Anakin for the simple purpose of honoring Qui-Gon.

I'd enjoy an alternate timeline where both a fallen Anakin and disillusioned Padme defect to the CIS halfway through the war. It is both a depressing morality blow and critical loss of both a great war general and ambassador. Padme's leaving from the Republic Senate and the subsequent secession of the Naboo System leads to a chain reaction of more worlds seceding and claiming neutrality. Anakin under the training of Count Dooku and being partnered with one of his Dark Acolytes are dispatched to defend the planet Naboo from the supplementary Republic warships. And so begins a drawn out planetary battle in a bid to capture Padme and potentially the dangerous traitor Anakin Skywalker. I wish I was a good writer cuz I'd love to create a whole story about this. The best I can do is make a "short" summary and compilation of important events, locations, and characters. Even with this somewhat limited storytelling style, I love coming up with Star Wars and sci-fi fantasy stories/concepts as a hobby. Anyways, would you like to see an alternate timeline story like this? Anakin as a dark side apprentice to Count Dooku + Separatist General and Padme as a saddened turncoat Senator + CIS Ambassador. Sounds nutty but it is an alternate timeline after all 🤷‍♂️

Another layer added to my favorite character. That hatred of the former self, the part that must be destroyed to become Sith, seems to be more of a motivation than others. The "chosen one" seems like a Royal title while Dooku is relegated to a mere Count. The high society in Dooku can't resist to hate his "betters". Lots of layers.

Imagine if Dooku remained a Jedi after Qui-Gon's death and became Anakin's master. He would have been a father figure rather than a brother like Obi-Wan, meaning Palpatine wouldn't have been Anakin's father figure either. I doubt either would have turned to the dark side and Dooku would've listened to Anakin's worries about his mother and allowed and/or went with him to save her. He also would have understood his marriage with Padmé and would've helped him in any way he could have. They both would've been Grey Jedi and I believe with Dooku on Anakin's side the Jedi would realise their shortcomings and maybe never would have been eradicated.

The biggest problem with Dooku though, is that he believed that there were problems in the Republic and the Jedi Order that needed to be fixed, but he never saw anything wrong with himself that needed to be fixed. Change always has to start from the inside first, but megalomaniacs always tend to skip that step. That's why they generally end up justifying their embrace of evil philosophies.

I can see your point, but I must respectfully disagree. What follows is just my opinion. I will lead off with an old saying of my own, "hindsight is 20/20". I believe that every time the Count faced Skywalker it reminded him of his own life and how arrogant he was. On this point we agree. Where we differ is how he felt about it. Keep in mind the Count is a Sith. I believe that he thought he could have been much more powerful if only he hadn't been so arrogant. Since arrogance is a hindrance to the Jedi way, he believed that he would have been an even more Jedi. Therefore, when he turned he thought he would have been an even more powerful Sith. As far as his thoughts towards Skywalker, I think he saw how quickly he was growing even with the arrogance and saw what the boy could have been if he could have only let it go. Seeing this caused Dooku's own pride and arrogance to swell up, which caused him to hate the boy.

Imagine if Sidious and Dooku just when ahead with their original plans with the empire and order 66 instead of seduce Anakin to the Dark Side. Imagine if Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Yoda where the only Jedi that survived order 66, would Yoda and Obi-Wan face Dooku on Mustfar (Lava Planet), and would Anakin combat the Emperor/Sidious in a Telekinesis Battle in the Senate Chambers (instead of Yoda)?

The longer version of that proverb explains so much, its easier to understand than the shortened version, I always thought it was something exclusive to the multiple religions that think pride is a sin, but now I see its universal, I never thought I would learn about a proverb in a video about the SW universe. As for Dooku, it sounds like he hates himself and Anakin for the same reason Vader hated Anakin, for letting himself be fooled by Sidious and allowing his love to be manipulated. I wonder if Vader would hate or pity Dooku if he found that out? maybe via force ghost...... After all he was the Jedi that taught his master's master, as well as the person who taught the Jedi that freed him from slavery. Maybe that was also why he was so full of ire every time they fought, because he thought he betrayed Qi-Gon. Damn honestly I don't think anyone can write/plan Star Wars the way G.Lucas did. I can't believe the episode that turned Anakin into Vader was also the same episode that opened with him executing Dooku.

Anakin being a reflection of who Dooku used to be makes a lot of sense especially with the link to Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. If Qui-Gon had lived Dooku would have probably never become a sith and been able to help Anakin with his arrogance by humbling him and making him a better fighter. Qui-Gon was the right father figure but if Dooku was the guy helping Anakin with his fighting skills he would have been a lot more humble via getting his ass kicked as most do. Palpatine knew Qui-Gon was the glue holding that particular “master - apprentice” chain so tightly knit.

Lol. Let's be real dooku is the arrogant one, thinking he would stand a chance against the chosen one once he develops. Sure anakin is arrogant because he knows he is the strongest and young. Dooku is a man with a lifetime of experience and skill and naturally gifted in the force and can even temporarily go toe to toe with Yoda, the most skilled Jedi. Yet you can see he was exhausted just dueling Padawan Anakin who is pretty much at the beginning of his Jedi career, pretty a expert having difficulties against a beginner. ROTS three years later all that power and skill dooku had was nothing to Anakin once he had a small taste of anger and the dark side. I wonder how much dooku would of shat his pants if he ever saw prime Vader.

Yeah, he’s in his 80s and tired, but I think he stayed in his kneeling position because he trusted Sidious. I’d have thought he could’ve Forced his way out of that. Of course, who wouldn’t be in shock trying to make sense of losing both hands.

It is kind of a prelude to how Vader hates Anakin so much. But since he didn't have an outside source to deflect that self hate, he separated themselves into separate personas. If Anakin had been stronger Vader felt he would never fell to the dark side in first place. Or if he still was destined to belong to the dark, he would have been whole, powerful enough to save Padme and been free of Sidious.

“Pride before the fall,” “steel sharpens steel,” …somebody went to Sunday school. What about Anakin’s hatred for Dooku? Where did that stem from? Was it something as basic as Dooku’s aristocratic bearing that grated Anakin’s slavery upbringing? Or was there something specific that happened? I get the feeling that young Anakin would tend to be initially friendly with most people, but could hold a lifelong grudge if the boy felt wronged.

For me I feel like the reason for his hatred is because anakin was the only one he saw as a threat, knowing he was through with the Jedi but not completely consumed by the dark side cause of how knowledgeable he is, he knows he could overtake his role by the rules of the dark side getting killed by the youngling slayer 9000
