I would say Palpatine's greatest advantage was the fact that most senators lived on corusant far removed from the lives of the people they represented. He seriously took advantage of the self-serving nature of most civilized species. You could see it all throughout the clone wars how people suffered, but their senate representatives never visit the people.
@aaronsmith7946 Жыл бұрын
May I ask where this information comes from? On a galactic scale, of course a peoples' representatives are going to be far away but in a world with hyper-drives, it's not that big of an issue. Where did you get the fac that the senate never went back to their home planets? What part of which civilized species were "self-serving," if you could cite some examples. Further, when the clone wars were orchestrated by the very person at the head of the government by using outside and foreign powers to create a fake war so that Palpatine could not only use that war to give himself more power and an excuse to create a massive military that he would be able to later use on anyone in the Republic that would question his supreme authority, as well as, without anyone knowing, create a clone army loyal to HIM and not the Republic, I think you are confused about which characters were actually self serving. Maybe you need to watch episodes 1-3 again before you comment because you sound confused about what actually played out, almost as if you think Palpatine did nothing wrong and as if the Senate did and that the people were better off with what Palpatine gave them...
@fredfry5100 Жыл бұрын
@@aaronsmith7946One episode does cover this issue. In Star Wars: Clone Wars, there is a few episodes that take place on Ryloth, home of the Twi'lek people (the tail heads like Rebels Hera). The Ryloth leader Cham Syndula and the Senator have an argument. The senator( I don't remember his name) reminds Cham that he represents Ryloth on the Senate floor. Cham shouts back angrily that he (Cham) represents Ryloth on Ryloth. The Senators are somewhat removed from the people they lead.

I believe that when the Empire was declared, most of the citizens of the galaxy probably thought that the Republic was changing its name and would continue as always. It was dissolved mostly because of it's support and sympathy of the Rebel alliance. This was proven when Darth Vader found out Leia was in support of the Rebels as their leader. He didn't even just stop at dissolving the Senate, he ordered Tarkin to destroy any planet he perferred, and what planet does he choose? Alderaan, one of the founding planets of the Old Republic. Mas Amedda - "This body will come to order!" (Chamber gradually grows quiet.) Emperor Sheev - "I recognise myself now, andI yield as much time as I may consume." Mas Amedda - "The Chair does also recognise the Emperor for as much time as he requires." Emperor - "Thank you, Grand Vizier. Fellow citizens of the First Galactic Empire, I will not mince words today. Certain developments have come to light regarding a plot to aid the rebel insurgency that seeks to destroy this august nation and promote anarchy in the galaxy. These developments point to involvement by certain members of this body, but more than that, they point to a corruption that has existed ever since the Old Republic first was established. That corruption, I first thought I could purge from this body when I declared the reorganisation of our diseased Republic into the strong Empire we serve today, but as events progressed and the rebel insurgency first took root and began to grow, I realised that further, more certain measures were required to maintain the order and security that we now enjoy, especially since certain members of this once-illustrious body have been found in taint of high treason, having been found to be rendering aid, support and comfort to the rebel traitors in one capacity or another, the greatest and most vile symptom of that corruption. I discovered that the corruption of which I speak is not only endemic to this body of delegates, it is inherent to it, and upon this discovery, I directed the Imperial Science Bureau to develop contingency plans to preserve the Empire in the case of a significant number of Senators going over to the Rebellion, and today, one such contingency announces its completion and is ready for testing. Bring up the holofeed from the new Expeditionary Battle Planetoid!" (A holoimage appears over the Senate Chamber of the planet Alderaan, from the point of view of the Death Star Overbridge. Upon recognition of Alderaan many murmurs of consternation and confusion are heard and crescendo until Mas Amedda bangs his gavel-staff.) Mas Amedda - "This body shall return to order! All members will direct their attention to the holofeed!" Death Star controller, V/O - "Commence primary ignition!" (A low whine begins to build over the speakers in the Senate Chamber, plateaus, and then a green glow fades in. A massive laser blast streaks out, touches the planet, and Alderaan EXPLODES instantly. The holofeed then terminates, plunging the Senate into shocked silence.) Emperor Palpatine - "You have witnessed not only a successful test of the Empire's primary contingency against what I may now state is the inherent corruption of this body, you have witnessed the resolve of the Empire to utterly stamp out and break this rebellion. IT IS THIS BODY ITSELF, this very Senate, and the democracy it stands for, that is the corruption at the heart of our great and glorious Empire! (As if on cue, the Senate doors open out into the Rotunda, and Imprrial military officers and Stormtroopers march in with purpose and surround the chamber, their weapons drawn and aimed at the Senators, who begin to clamour in rising anger and outrage.) Palpatine - "I declare here and now that the former Imperial Senate has outlived its usefulness, and I do now decree that as of this moment, with the destruction of the Rebels' primary source of aid and support, the Senate is henceforth dissolved and outlawed. Those of you who are known to have demonstrated your true loyalty to the Empire need not fear, but you may also return to your homes forthwith upon the conclusion of this final session, and you may tell all who will listen that now there is a proven means of ensuring loyalty and stability in the Empire. The slightest disobedience to Imperial command will bring the Death Star to your worlds, and then your worlds will share the fate of Alderaan. To ensure the facility of adherence to Imperial command during this transitional period, I decree that now and henceforth your territories shall be placed under the direct control of the regional governors I have selected from the Imprrial Armed Forces. You need not fear any reprisal, so long as you obey my will in all things and in all respects. Fail to do so, though, and your worlds are forfeit. This body is now and forevermore adjourned. You are all dismissed, save for those in whom your Empire had expressed interest. Troopers, escort the individuals on your rosters to their ships and send them back to their home systems without question!"

my question of which I am not aware of an answer is how the senators reacted to the dissolution of the Senate. Any and all lore about Palpatine is just great. He literally thought of everything. He was extremely wise, and unbelievably incredibly powerful, both in the political sense and through the force. We even see him slowly chip away the Senate’s powers as early as episode 2. With the formation of emergency powers. I also really like the fact that all the political episodes in the clone wars basically was just an arch about how manipulative Palpatine really was. Slowly siphoning power for himself. So even though people use this as a meme, his line of “I AM the senate,” was in fact, correct.

Labeling Palpatine as a the wisest Sith ever feels like a bit of a misnomer. The defining characteristic of the Sith is power and it's total pursuit, consequences and feelings be damned. He says himself that he is the culmination of all Sith who came before him. Over the years, Sith have consistently lacked wisdom, in as much as they were cunning and scheming. Wisdom would have led Palpatine to the conclusion that his pursuit of power would eventually be his demise, especially with his dissatisfaction with apprentices and constant search for extending his life and seeking out other powerful apprentices. Wisdom is not a characteristic of the Sith.

I actually disagree with this video, while yes Palpatine did dissolve the Senate around the time the Death Star was built, I don't think him building the super weapon is what gave him enough security to do so, I mean just take a look at the second season of the Bad Batch Palpatine was 100% in control of what happened any senator who believed otherwise was arrogant or blind, sure he had to make sure whatever bill he came up with pass, but he had absolute control over what bills the senators themselves could make and even present. In both legends and Canon though the Imperial Senate had an issue with rebel sympathizers and defectors but up until this point the face of the rebellion was Mon Mothima and the galaxy backed her almost as much as the galaxy backed Palpatine, but throw in a trouble making Senator like Leia as the rebel poster child and he could claim he needs the power to act alone again like he had done in the Clone Wars.

The destruction of the senate was the emperors first and biggest mistake. He did it to early. the fact that he destroyed the senate and then the death star was destroyed was the combination that jump started the rebellion. He had banked on the fear of the death star to keep everyone in line. He built the super weapon, he used the super weapon, and had allowed the super weapon to be destroyed. I mean really whose bright idea was it to let the shady governor just ride the ultimate weapon around like it was his private space yatch just floating out there with zero fleet support brilliant Vader yes Vader this one is on you were was your fleet and why wasn’t it at yaven. Cause letting the ultimate power in the galaxy get blowned up left the emperor standing there with no clothes, and without not even the paper screen of the senate to hide behind, centuries of carefull planning down the tubes because now the emperor had no choice but to go all evil space wizard to try and maintain control and yeah how well did that go for all the other Sith with delusions of empire. Really all you had to do was wait a bit get everyone really terrified, make sure everything worked really put the thing through it’s paces knock out five or six planets make sure the rebellion is dead and then get rid of the senate, and then defend the ultimate weapon like your life depended on it, like you did with the second one, just by that point the rebellion had enough momentum that it was to little to late. The only question left is that given Vader’s culpablity in this why didn’t he zap him right then and there.

The Light Side of The Force clouded Darth Sidious judgement like The Dark Side did to the Jedi. I believe he could not see the future with certainty anymore. That exact moment happens when Anakin Skywalker’s offspring awaken at that very moment before he disbanded The Senate. It’s just like what Luke Skywalker said in ROTJ to Darth Sidious “ your overconfidence is your weakness. Then he said your faith and your friends is yours.” that’s exactly what happened when he disbanded the Senate. He could no longer use the dark side of the force to view the future as he once did all those years ago. The prophecy was being fulfilled by bringing balance to the force. First it had to get rid of the Jedi and second it had to get rid of the Sith. Then they’ll be balanced in The Force. That is what Darth Vader did. He brought balance to The Force. It was Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader that destroyed both organizations. Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader was the personification of balance, together. Not really a Jedi, not really a Sith. Just an ordinary individual with great power to wield both sides as it was meant to be. You can’t have light without the dark. You can’t have the dark without the light either.

Palpatine was able to use wealth and his dealings with outside foreign powers to create the conditions for a war that he would use to bring his political opponent down and take the chancellorship for himself. He would then use his power to create and fund an unparalleled military might which took away from the resources that otherwise would have been used for the citizens of the Republic, which benefitted him two-fold. First, Palpatine helping the separatists (considering he was controlling both sides) and prolonging the war as much as he could to further affect the lives of the citizens so that they would feel as if their Democracy was not doing them enough good which allowed him to use the war as an excuse to get him "emergency powers" that he would further abuse in his favor. Not only was he able to build a vast military that he would eventually use on the very people he was supposed to be building that military to protect and whose sacrifices paid for it. It also allowed him to build an army of clones that would all be programmed to follow him blindly, something every dictator needs, complete control over the military. Tarkan even spoke of destroying Alderan as opposed to wherever Leia said the rebel base was located at because it was too remote to make an example of with the Death Star! The simple fact that they were using and creating the Death Star AFTER they had already won the war is an indication of what Palpatine was truly. His dissolving the Senate (with the control and power he had at that point, it didn't matter of they objected or not, there was almost nothing they could do by that point) was really just a convenience for him in getting rid of the people who might have otherwise been able to object and maybe even develop their own separate coalition which could have made any rebellion that much stronger & Palpatine was not going to have that. Palpatine was as corrupt as they come but that doesn't mean he wasn't a good strategist. However, what good is having a chancellor who is a great strategist when their strategy is to take the power away from the people and put it in his hands or the hands of just a few?

What I find Hilariously funny about this. Is the Iron with witch this is paralleling Our world and the various world governments these days. Especially ours here in the U.S. We have Emperor Palpatine in office right now, as we speak. Only our version, is a poor excuse for the one portrayed in Star Wars. The people can't see that we are on the verge of this happening for real. The saddest and yet most hilariously part, is most people. Can't see the parallel.

6:17 Listening to your description of Darth Sidious as the only voice, made me think we have many such people here. Darth Putin, Darth Trump, Darth Xi, and Darth Kim to name a few who use military power to maintain control, along with charisma and lies.

Lmao. You're a fool if you think Trump, Putin, Xi, Kim are on the level of Darth Sidious. Get your head out of the sand.

When did Trump, Putin or Xi use military power to maintain control? Also, Trump didn't start any war when he was in office unlike Obama or Biden or Bush.
