Most of the songs from AJFA are faster than SOH. People complain about the lack of bass on And Justice For All , BFD. The Vocals on South of Heaven are weak AF . The Judas Priest cover would have been great if Tom would have used the Voice he apparently lost on Reign in Blood. His guru chanting style on South of Heaven luckily was a one time only deal. South of Heaven was the slowest Slayer album

And Justice For All is my favourite album by Metallica. It has such a brilliant display of riffs, lyrics, solos and drum playing. It has a bad luck of being released between Master Of Puppets (which is their most critically acclaimed album) and Black Album(their most commercially successful album) so mostly it gets overlooked by media and some fans even though it is a classic record . This also can be said for South Of Heaven, it is kinda squashed between Reign In Blood and Seasons In The Abyss so it doesn't gets enough recognition as a great classic record.

@amandahuginkiss6868 Жыл бұрын
Yeah whatever dipshittery they were into for the entire tone of that album is still odd. I remember listening to it when it was new, and I had to give it about 5 listens before I got it. Live recordings from that time frame sound pretty good, but the studio album is not great. The guitars are almost all mid range, and the guitar is a mid range heavy instrument so that gets weird. There is no bass, because of many reasons, i.e Newkid usually copied Jaymz rhythms, plus they were hazing him hard because he wasn't Cliff (we all probably know the story by now). And the drums sound like crap too, and unfortunately influenced some bands to copy that clicky drum sound (Testament, I'm looking at you). Contrast that with Garage Days Re-Revisited, which had bass and a decent drum and guitar tone despite a lack of polish, and it's really weird. But yeah, it's still heavy AF.

Agreed. This was the first SLAYER album I really got into. It was fast and brutal, but the slower tunes with some (gasp!) melodies works really well for a band that is screaming about Satan. And then I got into Reign In Blood and forget about it....

Great playing bro ! Secondly im 54 and in my high school days Metallica was a fairly new band and so was Slayer in fact id hear Metallica who ! Personally my only 3 favorite Metallica albums were their first 3 with Cliff. But I've always been a Slayer fan and every damn album is heavy as fxxk.

being a huge fan of both bands....BUT you can tell the difference between Metallica and all other thrash bands....Metallica was not about only the riffs...but they were for the GROOVE!

Slayer's peak of complexity was on divine intervention, (killing fields intro for ex), it could be compared as the justice for all of slayer's catalog.

Ugh....two insane albums. One (Slayer) panned by critics, but was one of my faves from them. The other, Metallica's last great album, imo, whose only downfall(and a big one as a bassist) was, well we all know. Hard to choose here, but because Dave on his worst day buries Lars alive, I'm going with Slayer even though this is about guitar riffs.

Listened to and loved those two bands for over 30 years now. Totally different bands both legendary. Saw slayer live in Brisbane Queensland Australia about 25 year's ago, it was mind blowing !!!! As a guitarist I was in complete awe of there precision timing and shredding at the same time, just amazing!!

Oh, man. You got that Slayer sound on point. Good effort on the Metallica front as well, fuckin' sharp. Especially on "The Shortest Straw" and "Dyers Eve". Great battle. "Silent scream / Behind the Crooked Cross", cult thrash riffs : 🔥🤘. Legendary albums, maybe my favorites from both bands (with Reign In Blood). I'll be looking for Reign in Blood vs Master of Puppets, too. Along with all your Dave Mustaine covers. Thanks in advance, TheSuffocator. Great stuff, as always. Classic thrash metal, right there.

Metallica at this point played a somber thrash metal with a dense guitar sound, rich in melodies and angry drumming. Slayer played what you could call dark thrash, the riffs are straight-out violent, the drumming is pure aggression, the guitar distortion didn't need to be the densest, the music itself probably makes Slayer the heaviest thrash metal band in all History.
@angelotrinidad68882 жыл бұрын
I certainly wouldn’t call Slayer the heaviest when there’s Demolition Hammer, Dark Angel or even Sepultura also maybe the heaviest at the time with Hell Awaits.

Justice is an amazing album, one of my favorites by Metallica actually. The aggressiveness and speed of the songs hit different for some reason to me. The first time I heard Dyers Eve and how fast and brutal it was, it was crazy. The only thing missing is a bit louder bass from Jason Newsted but what can ya do? Still a great album nonetheless. I’m actually just starting to get into more thrash metal so these videos have been great for getting into bands like Slayer, Testament, and others. I didn’t grow up on this kind of music so I’m catching up lol.
