Hi April, I noticed that the drawer sounds, if it is all wood you can rub a soap bar or a candle to solve that problem, my grandpa used to this everytime

Awesome work, April!! Your parents house (and stuffed drawers) reminds me a lot about my parents house. I try to help them declutter (with their permission) when I have the time. They don't seem to be able to start decluttering on their own, but they don't mind if I do it. It's very satisfying when the difference is so big and you know that they will benefit a lot from decluttering/re-organizing.

Oh my word! A lovely big donation bundle to get out of the house and some lovely lovely shopping to get needed items to transform the home - best way to start the day! (You are having twelve to fourteen hour days poring through other people's memories and helping Mama April to sharpen her focus and let the life she wants to come in - while satisfying it's honestly not glamorous work - when you're getting in there and pulling out mountains of things - comfortable is the only way to go!) Pupper is the baby of the family! April is just the unwanted sibling pupper could do without, thank you! It looks fabulous! Even if left right there it would be a more pleasant space, more worthy of Mama April. This is all so motivating and satisfying - thank you to Mama April and Pupper for allowing us all in to gain experience and motivation and share in her journey.

It can be so difficult to see clutter, even when it is there, right in front of our eyes. As a family, it has taken us years to realise we were being suffocated by our possessions. I can't tell you how important it is to be able to see the floor of a room! The decluttering process, though overwhelming at first, is one of the most cathardic and liberating things you can do for yourself ❤

The drawer glides probably just need cleaning (vacuum or wipe with a dampened microfiber cloth) let dry, then lubricate with a little spray of WD-40. They will glide smoothly and won't squeak and squeal when you pull the drawer out. PRO TIP: only paint drawer fronts. Line the inside of drawers with your choice of products. The exterior sides of drawers should never be painted because wood expands and contracts depending on the season, humidity in room and this makes cabinet doors and drawers hard to open. Tips from a cabinet maker/woodworker, not me.

I actually like the original color of the bathroom walls - it's just too dark. But my favorite paint/room color is Versatile Grey from Sherwin Williams. It's really going to look so wonderful once the walls are lighter and that flooring is updated. Excited to see it all come together! And honestly, it's so hard to spend that much time with family doing something that can be really hard. Physical "stuff" can represent so much to a person in their home. Take care!

Double-decker lazy susans have to fit just right. I have an awesome one for my spices. I have enough room to easily get the ones out of the bottom, but I don't put anything in the middle of the bottom. I do put back-up spices in the middle of the top, or a refill of the same spice behind the one that's almost empty. It makes perfect use of the space. But I would just use a double lazy susan because I can. It has to fit. Those plastic drawers also work for me! I have pretty specific categories in them, like soap, hair, travel, dental. I also use them for my first aid and medicine. My house isn't perfectly organized (there are things with no homes, I'm destractible, and I have kids), but I'm apparently a cricket according to Clutterbug. I like having a pain drawer, allergy drawer, etc.. My husband's a butterfly most likely and he finds what he needs just fine. Nothing gets lost in the drawers because they're all pretty frequently used items. 🤷

It is amazing how much stuff can be in drawers and closets!!!! Here's another room that looked like it would be a quick job, but so much stuff to go through! Great job paring down your mom's stuff! When you commented that she was a "sorting machine", I thought, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!" She must have the sorting gene you found early, but she is just finding it now! That bodes well for her keeping things decluttered! Love the paint shade you chose for the walls. It looked best with the light in the room, at least on the screen here. Really enjoy these makeovers!

I am slowly and implementing putting a bigger sticker label with the expiry date of products especially medicines so I don’t need to some so much time looking for expiry dates when it is staring straight right back at me. 😅 Now I have this mental note each time I see the big expiry labels when I should get rid of a product and replace it with a new one.

Great job! Very kind of you to take the time and effort to declutter and organize their bathroom. Looks so much better. One critique I have is that items were reorganized in the places they already were there and wasn't a whole lot of questioning if there is a better spot for them. An example would be the back supply basket being on the lowest shelf and not higher up in the pantry since I assume someone would reach for it when they are experiencing back pain. Also, consider battery-operated lighting with 3M strips inside the pantry.
@SpaceMakerMethod2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Don’t worry, we did lots of questioning and repositioning of EVERYTHING. It just didn’t make this edit. I also asked her specifically about the back basket and she preferred that it be in the spot down low because she’s very short 🤪 and it would be easier for her to reach low. And the lights in the cabinets (I think) were filmed in an upcoming epsiode and if not, we just did them behind the scenes later. Today was just about decluttering and organizing

I have an innate aversion to sorting through papers, partly because my Mom's favorite "I need a helper" chore request was "Ok, girls, who's going to help me do papers?" (it usually involved the "volunteer" sitting next to her while she sorted--we just watched her and put the papers in the different sorting piles as she handed them to us). I've been so conditioned by this that, like Mom, I procrastinate "doing papers" and, when I do, a paper is not properly disposed of until I've torn it into several pieces first. Unfortunately, my career path put me in a profession that also generates a lot of work-related papers that take forever to get rid of. :(
