'Extremely disturbing' Hainault sword rampage shows knife epidemic is back, says Sun's Crime Editor

A 14-YEAR-old boy has been killed in a horror sword attack after a man allegedly went on a rampage, injuring four others.
The tragic death of the schoolboy comes after five people including two police officers were knifed in a terrifying frenzy.
Cops this afternoon said the alleged knifeman had been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Met Police said they could find no trace of a prior incident.
Petrifying videos from witnesses near Hainault Tube Station, east London, show a man, 36, clutching the huge blade and prowling the streets as people "shrieked" in horror.
Other onlookers have claimed the boy was knifed while walking in his school uniform.

IF this is genuine mental illness, it’s not the type you refer to. Mental illness can be enduring and life long effecting- not excusing this horrific incident but I feel there’s a lot of misunderstanding in society about what genuine mental illness is and looks like. @@beccafranklin6683yes it can it’s rare that it’s this bad but I suffer from bipolar disorder and before I was on medication I attempted to end my life multiple times because I believed I would become a god or higher power, I think this man might be suffering from schizophrenia and not taking medication for it, I was an inpatient in a sort of shared home type thing for under 18s suffering from mental disorders and there was a poor boy there who didn’t want to take his medications and was moved away because he believed he had to kill one of our nurses :( it’s a horrible illness but you do need to take your medication, it’s the side effects or risking jail for life, no matter how ill this man was, he took the life of a child and that’s unforgivable, he needs to stay locked up

I don't live that far from there and i can tell you this incident isnt a shock at all. You see people fighting or being harrassed in the street all the time and if you report it the police tell you its a civil dispute and contact the council as it falls under antisocial behaviour which isnt their responsibility any more. Unless someone pulls a knife out they don't want to know. Unfortunately, its too late then. Its rare that i dont see some sort of incident when I'm out now. London is an absolute 💩 hole. We've brought up the topic of moving recently as we have had enough but with my mums current health as it is, a move for her at this stage could have a devastating impact on her health. Me and my wife moved out of London in 2001 at a time when there were a lot of concerns about knife crime. We moved to the North West in a relatively safe area but knife crime in the North West and West Midlands is actually higher than in London. That is not to downplay the significance of the issue in London and people's understandable concerns. Even in Glasgow where they have taken action to reduce knife crime, it has only achieved a 50% reduction according to figures I saw some time ago- this is to be welcomed but still nowhere near enough. Knife crime in London is correlated with the affluence of the area. We lived in Wimbledon which was one of the least affected areas as well as one of the wealthiest parts of London. It still is. There is no excuse for knife crime and the full force of the law should be used against culprits but the reality that poverty is a key driver of crime in modern society ( it was not so much in the past)is not something policy makers and the public want to engage with. Until then it will worsen over time.

I know a man who has assaulted at least 5 children and has had tens of thousands of CAI. He served 9 months in a day release prison, kept his job and was given a free name change after he blamed a 13-year-old for being 'experienced'. These incidents are happening too frequently in London, they have been almost normalised. The police should be given the right equipment to defend themselves but also to protect the public. Moreover, the law should be tightened to take tougher actions against such criminals and existing laws should be enforced, not dismissed on account of suspected mental health issues.
