I suspect they know how many fewer they have based on shortages in units. Almost certain they cant tell who ran, who got captured and who died though. When reporting up they use the 1 2 skip a few 99 100 to report on unit strength.

Just as in the second world war, casualties were irrelevant to the authorities, whether it's the communists or this lot, just like cattle. Sadly these russian soldiers had no concept of fieldcraft or concealment, that position resembles a rubbish tip surrounded by agricultural fields, they had no idea how easy they were to spot.

"Too upsetting to show the rotting corpse of a dead Russian soldier." It's for reasons like this that our cultures have become soft and completely unattuned to what goes on in countries such as Ukraine, Brazil, Mexico, etc., as well as many countries in Africa and the Middle East. People need to see the graphic nature of this harrowing war to appreciate the true gravity of this situation.

Less than 3000 died in 9/11 and the Afghan war netted 176000 deaths, just to get revenge on bin Laden. I saw an interview with a young 18 yr old captured Russian soldier. He said two men came gt him from his home in Russia by force placed him on train with other young conscripts they rode on train for days. Then they gt to a staging place we're they were told they would be in military for sum drills. They didn't know where or wht they would be doing. They traveled days then he realized at some point they were in Ukraine and they realized they were in a war. They wanted to leave but we're threatened with death if they tried. He was one of the lucky ones who is captured but alive. This is really sad to know that sum of the Russian soldiers are young and didn't not want to be apart of this and have died and their families don't know. The ones that are willingly, killing and raping people should be held accountable. Tht interview was really sad he was so young and scared yet he was thankful tht he was captured.

Everybody has been brainwashed for many years, state TV channels replaced all the entertaining programs with propaganda news and talk shows. We are seeing first hand that the Russians tactics are shocking, if we believe the video footage we are shown of captive Russian soldiers their morale is at an all time low and from this video of their harbour, their admin is also shockingly poor. Having been in Iraq and Afghan multiple times, when I compare the quality of tactician, the taliban far outmatch the Russians and in regards to admin aswell they far outweigh the Russians. Digging in in woods is a mixed blessing/curse. While the trees offer some concealment at this time of year the trees are largely bare of foliage so the concealment is limited. Two Russian Mig-29 jet fighters, circled above, repeatedly shoot and bombed the local forces on 10 April 2022. The 2 Mig-29s relentlessly attacked from the air while the soldiers on the ground bombarded with heavy artilleries mercilessly. No! It is not in Ukraine. It is in Karen State, Burma. The combined forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the local People’s Defence Forces (PDF) stood firm and counter attacked the military regime’s troops. An intense battle was fought for several hours. Soon, the battle was won by the KNLA & the PDF, capturing a lieutenant and killing 20 soldiers. However, sadly, 2 heroes were fallen from the KNLA side. In that battle, a colonel and a lieutenant who had previously switched side to the KNLA from the military regime, fought together with the local forces. The local forces have no weapons to shoot down these jets. The Russian made Mig-29s, Sukhoi-s30s and Mi-15 helicopters freely rule the sky without any contest. The local forces are helpless in this regard. Russia has sold $247 millions worth of military equipment to the Military regime within 6 years (RFA - Radio Free Asia 6 April 2022). Russian artilleries are not only raining on in Ukraine, but also in Burma. That’s why; people of Burma totally support the people of Ukraine. They fully understand the pain and suffering of what the Ukrainians are currently going through. May President Zelenskyy and the heroic people of Ukraine totally defeat the heartless Russian invaders!

Their maintainance status of their vehicles sucked as witness by the roads clogged with broken vehicles everytime they went to the field. And their training of their conscript force was mostly how not to get victimized by the older soldiers. Little war fighting training. We would have stacked their dead like sandbags at the Fulda. And the spongey terrain of the north German plain would have channelized them like the muddy fields of the Ukraine are now. Roadbound burned hulks....

In the US army we called those fighting holes ranger graves, you dig them just deep enough to save your bacon in a shootout. Probably won't do much good under most indirect fire. It's honestly done that way because modern forces don't stop movement well before night religiously, as the sound of digging through the night can travel much farther, and honestly since the advent of body armor and the lack of a high intensity conflict in recent years, it's a largely uncommon thing for troops to fully dig in. I did it one time as a light infantryman in 25th ID and it was a training exercise. This was in 2013 if I remember right, pretty much at the end of my 4 years. 6/10 would not recommend for use against forces with competent indirect fires, i.e. the Ukrainian military.

@@doubleaught7540 that is bananas. My question is, did the positions have to be filled in later? We dug 2 man foxholes and had a squad leader that was 6'7", so that was nice. We dug them overnight in a rain. That made me never want to do it again.

@@doubleaught7540 That is proper, have a fall back position ready. This was because we still had Korean war combat soldiers who were now Senior NCO's or Battle field commissioned Officers who understood you need to train like you would fight and expect to live another day. Times change, really fluid conditions are the tactics of today, but the basics are going to give one a good chance of surviving a barrage or being overrun. I did 4 Reforgers, 74-76 and then again in 82, we flew from Bragg, jumped in. See you were 509th ABCT, I supported 2 /508th at Bragg, we were not a ABCT, were you guys in Italy, like the only Airborne unit stationed outside the U.S. after Panama Canal Zone closed. All a blur to me now, been a few years, but still remember my 4th point of contact getting kicked humping heavy ass rucks...

Regarding the battlefield, and the chaos of war, and having served myself, I have to say that the mess Russian soldiers make in their positions is disgusting.. Baring places attacked or messed up by artillery rounds, every trench or position they have been in are totally disorganised tips. For security, and sanitary reasons, we were always commanded to keep any position as clean as possible. The Russian soldiers are acting like pigs, living in troughs.

I agree, you definitely need to make it clean and comfy. Put trash and recycle cans around you, install ac, coffee machine maybe satellite tv. C'mon you should be civilized while at war.

@@roceye It needs to be considered, that most of the population of Russia are nothing more than peasants tending the fields, living in basic if not medieval conditions. Serfdom, a form of slavery for those working owners land, was not repealed until the 1880's, when all other countries had removed this servitude centuries before. After 1917 the Soviets starved or murdered their own people through a number of Purges, killing millions. Education in villages only goes up to 12 years, then children have to go to state schools in their nearest city. But many never make it that far. Dictators love the poorly educated, because they are easier to manipulate, problem is, when let off the leash in a war, they revert back to what they were, and become mindless beasts..

@@I-Am-Ra I'm not a soldier but I guess those habits have something to do with discipline and maybe, in a lesser degree, with morale? Like in civilian life, out of my youth years I got to understand that discipline is fundamental

I found it sad that all that mess is in the middle of what looks like a field of fall rye, and who knows when the farmers will be able to get on the fields again. Such a huge waste of life and resources.

The whole part of being a journalist and reporting is to show what is actually going on no matter how gruesome.... 🙄

I’d have to agree. Politics aside, sometimes the general public needs to see and be reminded of what the cost of war REALLY looks like, it’s more than just number statistics, a passing mention in a news piece and pictures of burned out trucks… it’s names and faces, blown apart and shattered, it’s the bloody bodies inside those trucks. It’s not a goddamn football game, report on what you see…war IS uncensored, gruesome and dirty.
