That clean channel with the telli pick ups really felt like a very 1950's 60's sound was thinking almost beach boys style. Was not expecting that kind of sound for a "Metal" type amp.

That amp sounds great! I consider the Fryette Deliverance to be the best amp, though I have a lot of love for Vox and Orange tones, and its best form for my usage is a Synergy preamp module.

I'd like to hear a typical super-strat (RG maybe?) & hear how it sounds for high-gain metal. Maybe run through a tube screamer up front (just for tightening - not necessarily for more distortion). I love this amp so far here & would love to hear it as I would use it myself. Great vid! 💯

What a great sounding amp. Even with the audio limitations of You Tube, the Retro 100 comes through with really great tone. I wonder why ENGL discontinued that model and if there is anything comparable in their remaining lineup?

Not sure why it was discontinued…and not sure if there is anything that’s really comparable…maybe the Ritchie Blackmore signature?!?

Nice video - well done! 👍 I live not far from the Engl production in Germany and have over 20 Engl heads. I found one of the last available new Retro Tube 100 months ago online in a store in Munich. I loved it sooo much, that I also got a used Retro Tube 50 last week. I think these amps are totally underrated. I should say Jürgen and Marty, that we need a Retro Tube II - should'nt I? 😉

I know that it's on a smaller scale, but Philip McKnight did a demo of the Engl Fireball 25 and that has a great clean channel, as well as the high gain stuff. These amps just about do the lot.

Yeah absolutely…they are really known for their high gain, metal sounds but the cleans are amazing - same with the Ironball and the Powerball (the other two Engls I have) super versatile amps that can do just about anything!!

I have the original ENGL Powerball head and it too kicks serious butt. Crystal cleans, great crunch and dynamite lead… problem is that it is heavy and then there’s the speaker cab. So it lives in my studio. I will never sell it.

Sounds really tasty, but the price is rather high. The moment I realized I didn't have a real amp yet was when I picked up a handmade copy of a Matchles Spitfire and then a hand made copy of Fender Princeton ( in both cases I had pleasure to choose design/details). I own both now and the only thing I'am craving for is a good hand made version of Vox AC15/AC30 (despite the fact that Matchless is a clone of Vox). As to Engl I get very similar sounds from DV Mark Little 6 (discontinued).. But if I ever had to pick my ultimate amp the answer is: Fender Princeton with spring reverb and valve/bulb vibrato/tremolo, there are different names for this effect.... :-)
@TSFAHTPS3 ай бұрын
@@Dzika_Astronomia wow…a Matchless is definitely on my bucket list!! But yeah a good Princeton or Deluxe Reverb sounds amazing!!
@Dzika_Astronomia3 ай бұрын
@@TSFAHTPS If I were to pick just one of the two, I would have a hard choice. Matchless is a great pedal platform, Pirinceton is a world on its own and when I use it i don't feel any need to use guitar pedals. However in case of nuclear war coming I would grab Princeton. Much easier to carry :-)

Man, i appreciate your demos, your backstory with the amp, etc. but holding the clickbait sh*t for 4 minutes to say the name of the amp, or even the brand, is too much. - I'm out. Please treat your audience a bit better.

@@martiboucat there are chapter marks…you can skip ahead at any time
@martiboucat3 ай бұрын
@@TSFAHTPS there's no way to know if in the next chapter you'll keep not saying the name of the object you just bought. If i skip everything in the beginning i'm losing your story and i'm here for you, not for the amp. I'm interested in your point of view, not for the thing you bought. I understand you have to play the game but i don't know if that's treating the audience that's here for you the right way. Even people who might search info on that amp will never end knowing you've talked about it because the name is not in the title, the description and you mention it on minute 4. I follow your channel for you and your opinions, not for the gear. I don't know... maybe i'm wrong but i don't know if this is the best strategy to keep the audience engaged.

@martiboucat3 ай бұрын
@@rebeccagarner2576 how impatient i am that i know when he says the name. It’s not about the time you spend waiting for something to happen, is about the narrative you create when comunicating something to your audience. If youtube has shown us anything is that consummers buy communicators, not products. I understand that Gabor needs to keep the engagement as long as possible but, how long is too much? My comment is about “be careful, not everybody is as patient as i am”
