Hi Kriss , came to you from tom pemberton`s channel ...i think theres a few things you say make a lot of sense here ...more farmers should be thinkin this way ..spend as little as possible and theres more potential to make some money... i think govt policy has been failing farmers consumers alike for years .i accept we had to grow food during the war time , then through rationing..but that policy to produce produce produce at any cost which in the 70`s included fertiliser subsidies ...ultimately led to all those surpluses butter mountains milk lakes beef mountain grain mountains which gave us quotas and set aside ...now the push for it to be all about the climate and environmental stuff will eventually lead to a situation where we have not nearly enough food ...surely producing as much of the food we require as we possibly can would give us jobs , some security , less exposure to things happening abroad we cant control .hostile invasions, extreme weather events , transportation delays, currency fluctuation...all potentially putting costs up to consumers..they will need us producing food and will hopefully reward us adequately ....and if they cant or wont continue to support us through subsidies, we will need to find ways of producing while spending next to nothing..you seem to be operating a low cost system which fits that bill... all the best goin forward...john

The farming is full of prejudice and criticism from those who feel they are better than you at ....well everything. I like you was born and raised in the farming family/ community. All my family are still involved in farming. I decided that I couldn't deal with the continual negative attitudes and prejudices that came my way because I was different and just don't think the same way. I don't have anything to do with farming anymore which is sad because it's in my blood and I miss it. What makes my heart glad is that there is a really supportive social media community for those who do things outside the box and a whole new generation of British start up farmers who are doing things their way which is amazing for me to see in a community not known for its ability to adapt to change or for accepting outsiders/ differences and hopefully that will change attitudes and practices. Someone has to take the rest when someone takes and can pay for the best. I really enjoy your channel and posts on Instagram because guys like you and others that post are hopefully the new face of farming.

Shame you aren’t doing it any more as thinking differently is a quality in my opinion. Screw what other people think.

You have a new fan. Most people just live a fantasy. Often reality sucks and you have to start someplace. Time and grit is why old farmers become successful in the end. When I started I only had one ewe. As I went I kept good records. Since I am old and disabled I had to go quality over quantity. I kept ewe lambs from excellent performers. I bought good rams, used them early and sold them on the same year. Everyone has their own road.

I think you’ve got a great system and that’s coming from us old Cumbrian farmers. We use to breed loads of North of England mules, but just got sick by the whole BFL Tups and fat lambs not making that great a price, compared to say, a Telex cross. So we now have changed our sheep breeding system, which is working better for us. Loving the KZbin Channel, keep it up. 😊

Love the mixed breeds you have it makes it so much more interesting each breed has it's own qualities. It must be so rewarding when you buy the sheep nobody wants and make something of them , your both doing a great job

I’ve never waited a year to breed a lamb. Love my katahdins. I bought junk, and they’re starting to turn around.
@FarmFreshIB Жыл бұрын
I have Katahdins too. I breed ewe lambs regularly as well, but I think the breed is why we can do that. Kats were bred for the high production and most woolies just aren't.

Everyone has to do what they can to get their dream. I admire the hard work and how honest you both are. It will always bring someone to comment but I think you are both doing great. For me it is good to know someone does buy the cull ewes as we struggle a bit with sending off ours. Good to know they do have a chance to have another lamb. We were lucky to have sheep from my father in law giving up and use some of where he farmed. We also struggle to keep ewe lambs because they need an extra space to be kept away from the tups. We don't have that space.

Great videos! I like that you show all of the farming, the mistakes and the good. You have a very natural humor which is quite enjoyable. Just getting into sheep over in the US up in Alaska. I like the variety that you work and aren’t stuck just operating with a specific breed. One last thing, what brand is your jacket? I have been trying to catch a logo but have not been able.

Haters will always hate….especially when they see you getting on, which you clearly are new truck, new quad, even keeping back ewe lambs for breeding 😂 Who cares what breed sheep you keep….youve got a spaniel that works sheep like a collie, you don’t need to justify anything to anyone 😂😂
@flock_ness2 жыл бұрын
Starting farming how you have had to, means you have to do things a bit differently. There is a farmer I follow on Instagram who buys cull ewes, fattens them up for around a year and then they are processed as mutton and sold to some pretty good restaurants at a really good profit. That is their whole business model. They don't breed them, just fatten to food. The wildlings you have are awesome sheep. So low input... though getting hold of the little buggers can be tricky to do and entertaining to watch (I have 50 pure and crosses). You should definitely film trying to catch them one day.
