Excellent review. Do you have a sense for the fin placement? I suspect they’re somewhere in the 9.5 inch zone. I am having a double wing twin pin shaped by a different legendary San Diego shaper and I suggested sliding the fins up to 10.5 inches. Maurice Cole has some interesting theory behind this. His 5’10” twin fins from the 80’s were 12” up. Figured I’d meet in the middle at 10.5. Anyhow, excellent review! I am afraid that for most of us having focused on standard thrusters where fin placement is somewhat standardized, we may have forgotten about an important feature of twin fins… which is their placement. Would be cool to hear about this in the future. Keep up the great work 🤙🏼

Hey mate! That's a great point, but i try not to go too "tech" in the reviews as for one, i don't want to get it wrong, but also a lot of that is beyond some people. To your point though, I keep getting people asking me how twin keels go in boards that are set as thruster or quads - and i must remind people the boxes are in the wrong place, and it isn't really going to work as a twin keel - if you want a twin with keels, order a twin with keels! haha!
@markmorales76422 жыл бұрын
@@TheSurfboardGuide could not agree with you more, Craig. It’s pretty damned funny the number of people I am seeing with two fins dropped into a board with five boxes. The twin fin craze is turning some people crazy 😂 Anyhow, thanks for the reply and really stoked on your reviews… keep em coming!

One of your best reviews for sure, loved how you go into the important details of how it felt with the different foot positions and so on! Maybe I overheard it...did you also ride it in real 1ft junk, usually Mal/Grovel territory ? Looks like it would catch small waves well with full rails and so much volume in the front?

Yeah - waves were around knee to waist high and pretty junky, but it was a little right rip bowl...

Looks loose in a controlled way. Which board is more user friendly between Twinsman and Lane splitter? Excellent reviews.
@TheSurfboardGuide3 жыл бұрын
Probably the Twinsman as anyone from very intermediate to an expert can jump on it and have fun. Where I’d say the Lane Splitter is amazing, but probably for someone who can surf and knows how to feel out surfboards!

Thank you so much for your review, it is very helpful! Have you ridden the Fish from Christenson? I'm an intermediate surfer and wanted to get the fish model but after your review I'm kinda willing to give the lane splitter a try. I usually surf a point break that breaks in between 0.5 to 5 ish ft (good shape but not tubes). what would you recommend? Also, there are other shapers that should I consider?
@TheSurfboardGuide3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Either board would be good, but if you are thinking waves would more regularly on the smaller side of that scale - I'd go the fish! If you think it'd be larger waves you would be more regularly surfing - i'd go the Lane Splitter! Other shapers - theres so many, i don't even know where to start...

Hey, I'm looking to get my first shortboard and I'm looking at getting a twinnie. I'm trying to decide between the Christenson lane splitter and the Christenson fish but I'm not sure what board would be better to go for - for reference I surf a wide range of waves all the way from shit to powerful atlantic surf. What board do you think would be better for me to go for? - or is there a different board I should look at getting instead. Thanks!
@TheSurfboardGuide Жыл бұрын
Hey! Neither of these are “shortboards”, but the Lane Splitter is close… If you are surfing more regularly smaller crappy surf, I’d go the fish. If the waves are generally bigger/better more of the time, I’d go the Lane Splitter ✌️

This was good in junkier/smaller waves - but i think you want to be a advanced surfer to get it going in less than stellar conditions.

Hey man - great review. I've had my eye on this board. Curious - after surfing it, do you think it would work as well in the 6'6" - 6'10" range? Ive tried surfing stretched-out shortboard outlines in the past in the 6'6" - 6'8" range and they felt pretty meh - feel like they were never meant to be bigger than a 6'2" or whatever. This shape seems like it would work, but again - no idea! Would love your $.02 thx in advance!
@TheSurfboardGuide3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Possibly, but you'd be looking at different fins - probably a keel or something that'll work with the long trail line - maybe even make it a quad! If you get one, let me know how it goes, I'm interested!

The jumping out of the water thing, what causes that! I recently got a board that is similar (double bump twin pin) and I’m having that problem really bad
@TheSurfboardGuide3 жыл бұрын
Its the wider and straighter rail line pulled in at that hip/flyer into that tighter/narrower tail. It creates great maneuverability, but can be a bit of a hurdle if you aren't used to it!
