There are a lot of folks asking why they shouldn't just "bug in". Yes, if you're in the right area and you can bug in, that is almost Always preferred. But what if you're forced out of your house and off your property? It doesn't even have to be a man-made event that happens. What if a forest fire forces you out, or a flood? Even an EMP can catch your electronics on fire and take your house out of the equation. While "bugging in" is always preferred if you're in a semi-rural to rural area; just planning to stay home no matter what is not an actual plan. You already live there. Without contingencies, if you lose your preps that are at home, you're as good as dead. You should have a second fall back location with friends or family, and even a 3rd. You don't need to own a cabin in the woods or land in Montana. Start networking with family and friends first. Find a group that you can provide value to and make the right connections with them. You should have routes mapped out to get to secondary locations with caches along the way. That's real planning. The truth is; reality doesn't care what our opinions are. There are several things that could cause your primary plan to fail, so just have contingencies and you might be ok. 2 is one and 1 is none. That doesn't just apply to gear. That also applies to strategy.

Stealth, stealth and STEALTH is key here. They can't hurt you if they don't know you're there. Be extra-super quiet and listen for them. We make noise when we move, especially when we move quickly. My drill sergeant made us all sit quietly and listen for several minutes before explaining that when you stop talking and avoid unnecessary movement, the enemy often can't hear or see you, BUT you can hear or see them. Take advantage of dead space and obstacles and never miss an opportunity to shut the hell up and sit still.

This is really well done. I'd like to make a suggestion though. It's female safety. If you're female, the first thing you should do is disguise your femininity. My dad taught me this and that's why I've always kept male oriented clothes in my vehicles and for me and my daughter's BOB gear. This also means having to make that choice if you have long hair to lop it off. Sorry, but hats, caps, hoods are easy to lose or get grabbed off. My dad's right when he says "No point in trying to keep being pretty when you're trying not to end up dead."

Combat veteran here, too, just as true is there is no resupply out in the woods so a sustained fight will be expensive in a variety of ways. Definitely need to change the view on suppressive fire, as well. Shoot only when you need to and have a target. Dont keep heads down, take them off!

@@BluntlyBlondie Most men understand the protection aspect of things. I believe it to be an instinctual thing God put in us. Gentle nudges, perhaps even short videos from random YT places would help. I don't mean survival videos like this one (though it was great) but more subtle things like how to fish with only line/hook or setting up deadfall traps or starting a campfire w/o accelerant. Those types of things can be fun "exercises" that allow you guys to develop more skills w/o having to go all out "prepper". Too many crazies have been televised and it gives the community a bad reputation.....so if you talk to him like we talk to each other, it may scare him off. Ease him into it and eventually he may work up to these types of scenarios. The slightest touch from a woman can usually get a guy to move in a desired direction...but they need to be gentle suggestions. Perhaps something like "you know what would be fun honey? Learn how the settlers used to fish before there was all this gear." Or "How would we start a fire if we didn't have fuel?" Something simple, posed as a question to him. Men like to solve problems, so if you pose it as one, he may jump on board. I have plenty of other thoughts, but I'm already getting wordy :)

Bugging out is not for every one. Sometimes it's safer and makes more sense to bug in and have a plan to work with a few trusted neighbors. Being on the road can also be dangerous. I choose to bug in with all my supplies and trust the Lord to protect me and my family.

Indeed, bugging out would likely be more dangerous than staying at home unless that home were directly threatened by disaster. While this short film is entertaining, (credit for that) early in a nationwide disaster I would expect a military presence on roads and in urban areas (professionals that would likely take a very dim view of people walking about in the dark with pistols, rifles and shopping carts full of ammunition), I would also expect that utility workers would be making best efforts to reinstate some function to any effected essential utilities. Should the need arise I would also hope that any working vehicles would be commandeered to move emergency supplies and help essential workers. That said, having a good reserve of food, water and essentials at home is always a good idea (who wasn't concerned about toilet paper a year ago?) and a bug out bag is both fun to think about and doesn't hurt to have on hand (much of what is in it is useful about the home or if you breakdown in your car).

Agreed! I live in coastal California. No one... I say again... no one... is going to bug out to a remote location from coastal California. Dang, a regular rush hour is stop and go... and if you've ever tried to head East on a Friday afternoon you know I am speaking truth. Can't imagine combining all that with a massive disaster event. We consider ourselves urban preppers and agree that having neighbors or a community group like a church, extended family, or martial arts dojo around which to build a reliable survival community is the best strategy. Just plan on shooting everyone who's armed and acts aggressive towards you and this wont matter. The best bet is to avoid anyplace with people and stay out of sight and hidden. The absolute best way to do this is to have a high quality handheld thermal unit, you can see everything alive but they can't see you.

Yes, it's more mouths to feed but it would be a stronger defense than if you were raided by a big group. 4 vs 10 is better than 1v10 tactics and terrain aside. Also, morally just because shtf doesn't mean we go back to the wild west and shoot who ever looked at us wrong. Obviously you should be wary of others but not quick to kill. That is my personal opinion.

Pro tip- when you fill your water reservoir, close it up tight, turn it up side down and suck the air out with your water tube. This will eliminate the sloshing noise and water moving around. If your like me and easily irritated by repeating noises, you'd want to do this. I've ran with this and its very annoying.

As a former Montana guide, I keep a package of disposable lighters in my car at all times. Even in the outdoors, a lighter in pants, my coat, two in my backpack, so I can make a fire in a moments notice. There is absolutely no reason not to ALWAYS have these lighters at the ready!

Avoiding blisters is a lot easier than most think. Wear two pair of socks, nylon dress type socks for the inner layer, and wool for the outer. This will drastically reduce the chances of developing a blister. It's also a good idea to keep rolls of moleskin and 4x4 gauze, in the event that you do feel a blister coming on. If you quarter the gauze, you can combine a single quarter with mole skin and place a makeshift band-aid over the site where you are beginning to develop a blister. I've used this on Soldiers who've developed blisters while on ruck marches. It works extremely well.

This is a great video. I’ve prepped for 20 years and I usually don’t like videos like these. This is really good. Example don’t need a battle rifle on day 1 getting home. Your pistol plus extra mags will be enough. He explains how u realistically bug out if needed. And props when he said don’t walk thru a town. Walk around it no matter what. First off I want to say that I agree with a lot of what this guy talks about, and each situation will be different. Honestly a good way to plan for these situations is to set up role playing games to come up with as many different scenarios as possible and to explore different tactics. Role playing games may sound nerdy but they were created by the military to practice and evaluate combat situations without having to expend resources to do so. Ok so for starters EMP will not kill your car. It will kill your starter which is a 1 hour replacement and why I have 2 extras for my two cars. Pretty much everything else will work. EMP causes a buildup and eventual short of electronics that contain coiled wire structures. Transformers, unshielded electric motors, car starters, ect. Your phone might not get a signal but it would still turn on. IF you don't believe me just to to the navy emp test sight in nevada or look up any video they post showing that computers and electronics tend to be adequately shielded and your phone does not have any structures that will hold a charge long enough to shot them out. A bugout location could be great if you do not have a community you have built up to rely on in an emergency. Make sure to destroy the road behind you so that no one can follow you. You will be less likely to have to deal with anyone following you or some random passers by exploring for resources. In that unwanted situation you may be forced to come face to face with a family of starving desperate people with kids. That situation is the worst case scenario for me. Now you have people who know where you are and that know you have resources. The only option at that point is to move locations with all your stuff or eliminate the threat. It sounds cold but if you start feeding the local wildlife more will come and you will be dealing with too many mouths to feed. When you run out of that food now your in the same position they were in except your also the one they think still has some. People will be desperate. Desperation turns rational people into wild animals. Civilization is only civil because we have enough food, when that runs out we become tribes separated by the smallest differences and drivin to help your tribe survive. After you have set up a community then you can start taking in stragellers. Also keep in mind that those who are not prepped have a huge learning curve to overcome. If you chooses not to leave the city for whatever reason, and you my have a good one, throw all your shit out into your front yard to make it look like your house have already been raided. Tag it with spray paint, brak windows, even make it look like it was burned without hurting the structure. Its grey man for your house. Having a bug out location with a shelter is a great idea but if you don't have one you should have a map of all the state and federal owned land and get used to camping. Keep a spot for your food and other gear permanently but a simple camp area would be my ideal situation because you can move camp around your hidden cashette and avoid being stuck in a difficult to defend cabin or home. mobility is key to survival when there are large number of predators, scavengers, and pray around (not your pray necessarily but people that are unable to deal with the problem). Keep a weeks worth of food from your stash with you at your camp so that if you do get raided you can give them the food and hope they will leave you still have more. Do not go to your cashette for at least two or three days after such a scenario. Smart predators will leave you alive to follow you around and see if you have more resources. You can use this to your advantage to set up an ambush later if you feel so inclined and if the raiders won't leave you alone. Threats will never just go away and smart ones will let you stick around so that they can keep picking on you for whatever reason.

A tip. Buy and store a can or 2 of chain lube. Before you start spray the wheels on your wheel barrow, shoppi g cart etc. The grease will help the bearings last longer and will keep squeaky wheels quiet.

A gravity or pump water purifier is mandatory when using a hydration bladder. Steel bottle should be kept for redundancy. A large untreated plastic bag, such as an ice bag, is also vital for collecting morning dew off tree branches and catching rainwater. Water off branches must be boiled.

Pro tip i learned when it comes to sleep during survival: take shifts! Always have at least one member of your group/family stay up and keep watch because you're at your most vulnerable when you're asleep. also another tip is to not let any stragglers/looters walk away alive when you catch them trying to take your stuff. There's a good chance of them coming back with a group of other desperate and armed survivors. Eliminate the cause before it becomes a problem

After a short time, a couple of days, you then observe your home to see if it has been taken over. If so then you take a action whether to engage and remove them or to let them have it. I was thinking that myself. I live in a VERY rural area of Idaho, and I’m sure there are people who are thinking, “Oh, I’ll just go bug out there. No one lives there, so no one will notice.” Oh I promise you, we’ll notice. There are two families who live on this dirt road. I notice EVERY time a vehicle drives by, let alone some random people strolling through who I’ve never seen before. If you want to go somewhere that no one notices you’re there, go to the city. There are so many people in a big city, you can easily blend in. But out in the boonies? You stick out like a sore thumb, and I hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but farmers like them their boom-boom sticks. 😉 Make sure that wherever you’re going, you made the preparations beforehand, and you’re welcome there. Otherwise, you’re gonna find yourself on the business end of a boom stick. 😏

love this scenario, as an avid backpacker i've long since learned to use sock liners if i'm walking a long distance that i'm not used too. This will drastically cut down on blisters. you can buy liners or find a set of nylon socks under a regular set of socks works in a pinch (or actual nylons with good toe coverage...the 'toeless' coverage have a sewn seam which will cause blisters.) great video. thanks

The average American has a two day supply of food in their pantry. After that they will be out on the prowl and they will likely do anything to feed their family. This will be the case in any city especially after a week or two. I really liked your video and my family and I learned a lot. I think your advice about having a get-home bag and keeping hydrated was great, but I think your advice about avoiding gun fights like the plague was the most compelling. Living here in rural Oregon, I have found that about 90% of my friends and associates who own firearms can't wait to use them in a real-life situation. Most of them wouldn't hesitate to engage in a fire fight with looters to stop the looting, or that's what they think they would do. In a real life situation I'm sure that most people would try to avoid any kind of gun fight out of simple survival instincts and self preservation. It seems as if most of my friends and other people I know around here would just shoot someone eyeballing your gear or checking out your stuff. It's appalling to me how people around here grab their sidearm and have it in hand and ready to shoot at the smallest provocation. The other day I was driving home after a long work day and found myself nodding off at the wheel so I pulled into the first safe place I came across to get a bit of sleep. It was in the driveway of a home for sale. The house was empty and it looked like no one was living there at the time so I put my seat back and quickly fell asleep. About a half hour later I woke up and felt rested enough to continue my way home. I was in the process of rubbing my eyes and stretching and was just about to turn over the key to start my car (It's an older car. Needs a key to start it won't work with the push button) and a man in a giant white truck came screeching to a stop just a few feet from my car. He jumped out and quickly came up to my window with his side arm in hand. Looked like a Glock 9mm but can't be positive. All I know is it looked like a cannon in this guys hand. He pointed it at me and demanded to know what I was doing there. I told him exactly what I was doing and that I was just about to leave. He asked why I thought it was OK to park in his driveway. I answered that it looked like the house was uninhabited (which it was) and I was dangerously tired so I pulled off as quickly as I could so I wouldn't be a danger to myself or others on the road. I told him driving while drowsy was as dangerous if not more so than driving while drunk. I don't know why this guy had his gun drawn and pointed at me, but he must have realized I was telling him the truth judging from the way he was scrutinizing my just-having-woke-from-a-deep-sleep look in my eyes, and he told me to leave and to never return. I'm only sharing this here because something similar happened to my best friend. He had someone pull their sidearm and put the gun in his chest while screaming at him to get off of his property. He had only stopped at the man's house to see if he had seen his runaway dog. The man was so irate that my buddy thought for sure he was going to get shot, but he was able to walk away without any bloodshed. So that's why I really appreciated your advice about staying out of battles. While I think you would be well within your rights to shoot someone who was threatening you and your family with violence and they weren't heeding your warnings to stop, or someone was stealing your stuff and wasn't stopping after a warning, I don't think it's necessary or smart to go around acting like a bad ass because you have a small Johnson. Carry several small soda bottles with water because they are light and strong. That way you can use your Sawyer filter and if you only have one container for water like a bladder then you are screwed if it is popped or leaking. Bladder is ok on the side but not only container.

You can buy cheap flattening plastic water bottles from the dollar store in summer they fold up when empty and take zero space, and then expand to a normal size bottle of water. They're usually only a dollar. Or you could just buy a huge bottle of nascent or lugols iodine for water purification/antimicrobial, antiviral/antifungal/antiparasitic.....antimicrobialntifungalntiparasiticnd just use it on whatever water you come across. Or pack a clear plastic drop cloth for painting and collect the morning dew every day which is the best water....as it is distilled.

You’re absolutely right. In Iraq, camel backs were popping left and right. You lose too much composure and consideration when you’re run ragged and just need to rest. Those bladders would take the full weight of a grunt, his armor, ammo and gear all the time. I hated camel backs and mounted my old canteens and Nalgene bottle on my 5 and 7 o’clock positions on my interceptor. I later went to Afghanistan and maybe thought the camel backs had improved as I was using an entire reissue of improved gear. Nope, camel backs are pretty trash. I’m old usgi canteens all the way. When I did use mine, I’d fill it half way and tried pushing all the air out before tightening down the seal.

Heres some idea's for newer people getting started. You covered most but here's what I've figured out on my long walks. Water is the most important an one of the heavier items you'll carry. Carry a spare water bottle. So when everyone's looking and asking, you can show them "your empty bottle" an they'll believe you instead of fighting you. Hopefully. If you have to clean water on your way get hydration packets to help with taste an electrolytes Camel packs or bladders carry best. Also when they are empty they weigh nothing an pack down well. Water bottle pockets being further on the outside of packs cause slightly more movement. They can also fall out of the pockets if whatever could happen, happens. Also, it makes you a slightly wider object to be spotted while walking hiding or sleeping..especially using things like the 32oz Nalgenes bottles and everyone after 24hrs would REALLY want your water. Carry the heaviest items in the center an bottom of your bag (if possible)

Great video, I'm subscribing! 👍 For our family, we are the Bug Out Location that everyone will retreat to in a SHTF scenario. Our son is former SpecOps and currently a LEO, our daughter is actually in the academy now, both other daughters are ER nurses and the entire family is Pro 2nd Ammendment. Our Cul-de-sac is all likeminded and everyone owns at least 6 Ring cameras, at a minimum. I hope it never happens, but I think we're pretty prepared!

Looting in South Africa recently caused billions of rands in destruction. People died in the streets, civilians shot each other down and set up neighborhood barricades. They burned the trucks and busses in the roads, rioted in the streets, looted the stores, ransacked pharmacies and robbed the banks before burning entire warehouses and buildings to the ground. We weren't able to fill Jerry cans with fuel, cars only. This resulted in food shortages, hyper-inflation, a need for medical supplies, a shortage in ammunition, and freight and courier services shutting down. Traveling to and from Gauteng or KwaZulu Natal was extremely dangerous. Getting caught in the road was dangerous. People underestimate how quickly the political, social and economic climates change and break down. Within three days remaining food stores and petrol stations had closed down due to fear of being looted. We take the ability to travel and find resources like food, water fuel and medical supplies for granted and we are naive when we assume that those resources are inexhaustible.
