Blue Opal Inlay into Blue & Green Mother of Pearl

Today I turn up a customized Blue & Green Mother of Pearl blank I cast for a customer. Then I inlay some Blue Marianas Opals in per their request. I do say, it did turn out perty!

For the inlays, are you taking that right down to the metal insert with your parting tool?

Yes, I take it all the way to the brass tube. This gives me maximum depth for inlaying the opals to guarantee placement and none will come out when turning the blank flush to the bushings.

Great job and beautiful pen. I understand the glue for the cap, but why the glue for the tip? How will they take it apart to refill it? Also see question from kimgilbertsen8216.

The tip is a 2 part piece, a threaded bushing and the tapered tip. When I glue it, the bushing is what glues in place, the tapered tip can still unscrew so you can replace the ink cartridge. That's why I'm careful to put glue on the inside of the tube and not get any on the rim, so the tip won't glue to the blank and prevent it from being unscrewed to put the ink in.
