The Radio City Rockette Dancer's Rules Are More Strict Than You Could Ever Imagine. From Those High Kicks to Intense Rehearsals...
Subscribe: goo.gl/Hnoaw3
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since 1933, spectators in search of holiday cheer have descended on New York City's Radio City Music Hall to watch the Rockettes perform in their iconic Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Eighty-six years later, the training and precision required of the show's dancers are as rigorous as ever-that much is evident just by watching their famous kick line. The elite group of 80 women chosen to be New York City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall each year, perform as many as four shows in a day during the busy season, with television appearances, photo shoots and hours upon hours of rehearsal time sprinkled in -- all while maintaining the poise of a professional dancer and a smiling face.
But what are these elusive women really like? You know, when the curtain goes down and they hang up their (eight) elaborate costumes for the day? The intense and demanding rehearsal schedule is enough to keep a few of us mere mortals away from trying to become on of the uniformed dancers. Not to mention the fact that they have to maintain those perfect figures year-round, and they have be prepared to re-audition every single year. Yes, these dancers are covered in sparkly outfits with big smiles on their faces and are probably full of Christmas cheer, but they truly are athletes. The Rockettes are known for their unbelievable precision with their dance routines, to the point that it’s almost militant. Hard work, a grid system to map out their performances, and a coveted spot in this historical dance company equals the life of a Radio City Rockette.

inspire734 in reference to your idea that women have curves all over... many women have small chests, no hips, and if they work out enough, their backs will be flatter than the typical curved back of a woman. Personally, when I’m a standard weight for my size, I do not have curves all over. So please don’t take your weird conspiracy theory as fact, because you’re most likely not thinking this up yourself, you’re just following along with something that for some reason made sense in your mind at the time. I love a good conspiracy theory, but you have to be able to discern what could potentially be true and what is complete BS.

Dance moms is a reality tv show. This is a production business. I don’t know what’s wrong about it. Dance moms “works” more hours over drama (not say they don’t work) but a lot of what they do is for show. These are working adults.

Dean Maher they are also seasonal performers, ballet dancers put more hours in then the rockets and the dance mom girls. Seriously you sound so dumb, of course the dance mom girls put in more hours they go to a new comp every week and are learning new numbers every week. You are practically comparing apples to oranges.

We were taught that we were responsible for holding our own body up straight, which these girls, I've noticed, don't always do. I've seen a few bend their torsos just a tad during high kicks.
@Talierau3
@Talierau3 4 жыл бұрын
The video gets it slightly wrong... the reason for the policy is center of mass. It's a liability to touch because shifting your weight onto another person is dangerous. It can mess with the synchronicity but that is only a side effect of the added effort it takes to support your weight and another dancer (or 2). When everyone is responsible for their own weight, it makes things safer and more efficient.

A former rockette was a tap teacher at my studio and she choreographed dances with kick lines in them. You can't actually put your hands on the backs of the people next to you because the strength of the arm can push you forward and make the line all wonky. Another little fun fact, if one person trips and falls in the kick line, the whole line goes down like dominoes

My dance studio produced a couple rockettes. It looks glamorous but it’s really hard work for not a lot of money. I'm not so sure that I would want to be trained by a former Rockette, and I'm fairly certain I wouldn't want really young children trained by them. When that level of super-perfection is your norm, slowing down to normal human levels is difficult. And with children that young, I think the main thing should be that they're having fun, gain confidence and maybe discover what you're good at. Not to mention that five year olds have totally different proportions and level of fine motorics from adults, so surely it's obvious you can't take part of a grown ups dance routine for them?

I feel like this all depends on a person’s definition of what a true heel is. The rockettes were 2.5 in heels so even though they are more secure than the average heels they still have weight being placed on the balls of their feet for a significant portion of time. I personally consider these to be heels but I get how people would assume they aren’t cause they’re character shoes

When you are preforming in a large theatre the basic look is foundation a shade darker than your skin, dark contour, bright blush, strong eyeliner, false lashes and bold lipstick. If you are preforming in a large space, say radio city music hall if you go outside in your stage makeup you should be what is considered to be too much makeup and btw that much makeup generally turns a few heads

Radio City decided to cut back the schedule for financial reasons. When I heard this I unthinkingly remarked "Glad I didn't decide to be a Rockette because I'd be unemployed." A coworker overheard the remark and remarked "I didn't know you were going to be a Rockette." Once again I had put my foot in my mouth and had to explain that I was trying (unsuccessfully) to be sarcastic.

Everyone knows their hair and face better than anyone else and knows what products work for them, it would probably cost a lottttt of money for multiple makeup artists and hair stylists to help all the girls. It’s probably faster for everyone to do their own stuff too.

Read my long post that describes the male body features. A flat back is one of the sure easy signs to tell that they are males. Even if your friend was 6' she would not have made it. Eat your greens and peas kids so that you can grow strong and tall to be a Rockette or your daughters hopefully. If that Rockette 5'6 rule doesn't motivate literally better breeding practices in you then I don't know what does, literally a better health, better life, to reach that 5'6 height limit or in the next life (your daughters)...for you aspirational women: doesn't mean you can't be a dancer just means you can't a Rockette, if that doesn't motivate your soul then IDK what does, obviously other things in life, but if you are a shorter women and you have lifelong Rockette aspirations, this is quite the incentive and motivator for your children to conquer no lie!

And these girls are lucky : they didn't have hair changes to do! I did!
