@@thetallcarpenter yes i just finished a few extra hours on the kitchen tonight. The f/f unit was a right pain, I even measured diagonally and was fine. Problem was that it’s quite flimsy by nature of size and shape isn’t it, I think adjusting the legs was distorting the shape, as was opening the doors on it! Anyway, I’ve screwed it back now and have the run of base units lined up and they were much easier! Sorry to ramble, I’ll be checking out your other videos soon mate, scribing is the next thing lol!

Really useful content! As a novice, would have liked to see the end result of the repair job you did to the base of the damaged unit. Just to see whether it is worth complaining or just repairing on site.
@thetallcarpenter
@thetallcarpenter Жыл бұрын
Hi there🖐The repair was to simply flush up the base with the side and use 50mm screws to hold it together, and also make sure the leg base was still lapping onto the side panel, as that's where the units wright bears🤞I'll definitely walk through any repairs to future damaged units👍Cheers Del

As you done the stud work yourself. At least you know the tall units will touch the wall all the way up. I just fitted four kitchens in a new build and the walls were about 18mm out of plumb. The end panels weren’t really wide enough to take all the gap up. Get the job right in the first instance. As you did and it makes it so much easier further down the line. Looking good though.

@thetallcarpenter 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jivan. Tall units with a back fitted I would fix back to the wall on top of the unit. If the gable panel didn't line up with a stud, I would lay a piece of carcase material flat along the top at the back, fix it down to the top of the unit and then fix an secure with angle brackets at the stud location. (it won't be seen at the back edge).😎 Cheers

Morning del can I pick your brains. The wall unit hanging mechanism on the wall unit the screw that controls the hight before you hang it do you unscrew it a bit so you can ajust the hight a few mill up and a few mill down or do you leave it screwed all the way in then hung it . There's no instructions. I mean I can try both ways but I thought you would know as you've done so many😁

Great video. Tall man I've got a row of wall and base units, on the end is a ladder unit. They say start in the corner so if i follow the plan from wren the measurements for wall and base units by the time i get to my ladder uint the last wall unit and last base unit should be plumb ready for side decor panle and ladder unit, is this correct tall man. Or should i start from the end ladder until because there is a intentional gap for base and wall units in the corner so they could end up being a mill or two different from plans any thoughts from a pro would be grateful tall man.
@thetallcarpenter
@thetallcarpenter 10 ай бұрын
I like to work out from the corner. Once my corner base unit is in position, I will mark a plumb line up the wall to wall unit level, and measure back to the corner to make sure the wall corner unit will fit👍However, if as you say, the Wren kitchen has corner posts that can be adjusted, then start with the end larder unit if it makes it easier for you👊Cheers Del

Hello, About the cracking of the base plate, is there any particular reason for screwing the base between the sides? I see this technique on many big furniture manufacturers, but I cannot find a logical reason for it. I work as a semi-professional custom furniture builder in eastern Europe, and I always put the sides on the base, as the weight is better distributed and the overall strength of the cabinet is better. I only use the base between the sides on the upper cabinets.
@thetallcarpenter
@thetallcarpenter 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan. I can only imaging that it is done like this as not all kitchens have decorative end panels, so bringing the top and bottoms through, you would see them🤔 Good point in your comment though, as the way you describe is very strong💪 Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del

I’m currently in the process of fitting my first utility room. I’ve ordered a tall housing unit to stack my washer and dryer. 2 kitchen companies I got quote from both mentioned an additional 100mm void behind the units, they also said because of this I would have to use a 700mm work top rather then 600mm. I have spoken to a few friends who are builders an they said it should be fine with the 55mm void already in the units. What would you advise? Cheers
@thetallcarpenter

Hi Steven. I think you just need to see what size your appliances are first. Even if you need to have deeper units to accommodate plumbing and ventilation of the machines, these units can just stand proud of the worktop line👍Cheers Del

I am fitting a kitchen got a problem don't know what to do. I have fitted many kitchens before. Got a tower unit hard up in corner of room. Wall is out 15mm so got 15mm of gap at bottom and 0mm at top. Got end panel to go on side. But using plinth instead as saves money. Can't move unit over to make bigger gap. If I put scribe a piece in what I normally do is best way. This scribe to small will just end up breaking up cutting it or fitting only chipboard. To big for caulking it but think is only way 🤔. What would you do room is finished customer don't want wall skimmed.

Hi Barrie🖐That's not a great situation to get over, but I think I would probably cut a scribe 15mm to nothing out of MDF, fit it a couple of mm back from the carcass, caulk it to the wall and and paint it in with the rest of the kitchen walls👍Hope this helps👊Cheers Del

You ain't have right when you say that kitchens can be a right pain when not planned right, the last one I fitted the room had been measured before being plastered, I ended cutting the L shaped corner piece down and joining together again with the track saw to please the foreman.
