How are the trusses fixed at the brick work or what are they sitting on .your videos were better before time-lapse when you took the time to explain what's happening this was like watching an episode of the goodies

Apologies for the standard of this video.😬 I really am learning when it comes to making videos, and I hope I am making improvements with each new one I make.😝 The trusses are sitting on a 4x2 timber wall plate, and secured with metal truss clips.👍 I appreciate you watching and definitely welcome your comment and input. 😎 As time goes on, I'm sure I will do more roofing videos, and go into much more detail. Whats the reason for the vertical timbers against the house wall? Ive only ever seen common rafters mitre cut against the wall face plate with the bottom of the rafter nailed to the wall plate and a birds mouth cut.

Hi Dan. These were pre made trusses so made as a triangle. Other than keeping the triangular shape, it transfers the top of the rafter load down to the bottom chord which sits on the truss hanger.😎 Cheers.

hi there im wondering if you know how to get the top of the rafters flat before lats so the roof tiles arent wavy as i have seen it wavy so many times on cut and truss roofs is it just checking crowns and so much timber isnt straight im a bricky cheers

Hi John. If the top and bottom plates are straight, and the bows in the timber are not only all facing up, but placed next to each other in a way so you don't put a really bowed one next to a slightly bowed or straight one, the roof should be pretty flat. Trusses, can, and do, alter to each other slightly in their manufacture, but should still not give an up and down roof if fitted on flat, straight wall plates in the same lateral position. I have, on a couple of occasions though, had to plane the top of a few high trusses and pack up the top of a few low trusses in the past.👍 Thanks for your comment.

Great vid, Quick question for you, when is it safe to order trusses? Should you wait until the brick/blockwork is up to wall plate?

Hi Sean O. If your brickie's are good, you can order the roof when the footings have been bricked up on fairly straight forward building/roofs. But on more complex roofs, I would usually wait to confirm with the truss manufacturer the sizes once up to plate.😎Cheers.

How much margin for error on a truss? Standard roof? Average truss.

@@rockandmeatroll Hi Sean. You can usually make a provisional order with the truss makers to get your manufacture slot and then confirm before they go into manufacture. If in doubt though, wait until the plates are on as it can be very expensive if you make a mistake. Hope you also so have great weekend.😎 Cheers

@@rockandmeatroll I'll be honest Sean, I cant remember if the truss manufactures allow a little extra on the plate measurements or we have to tell them to put a bit on. ( I don't usually order the trusses) Most times the ceiling chord of the truss overhangs the outer edge of the wall plate by about 20mm.👍
