I wish fitting handrails and spindles was this easy , I know it’s a short video but for people who haven’t done this before it can be quite difficult ( I’m a chippy with 37 years experience)

how do you screw the top end of the hand rail ? the bottom is straight forward, but the top end angle does not allow a screw to drive in straight. Do you have to drill a long screw pointing upwards and inwards a little bit ? thanks

Loads of information missed out on this I’m afraid, what to do if the newel post is not square , max spacing is 100 mm , how to work out the spacing for the spindles , how to work out for the fillets

What height and how do you measure the height of the handrail ?

Depends on your local code. You can probably look it up online these days.

Missed out loads of information, such as maximum spacing aloud, and how to work out length of the spacing for equal gaps all the way

I've posted this on another site as well. After years of thinking of a way to set out spindles on the stair string without using geometry, I thought of an easy way to do it. First, measure 1000mm up the string from the bottom and mark it. Then, Measure back horizontally to the newel, it'll be around 750mm. Next, measure the full length of the string, in your example 2415mm. Multiply 2415 by 750 which is 1811250 which is obviously 1mtr 811mm (divided by 1000) This gives you the horizontal length you'd use if you were just doing a balustrade, using a horizontal spacer. So, with three measurements and one calculation, most of which you'd have to do anyway, it's made easy. I used to go up the string to about halfway and then work from the top downwards, as a 1 or 1.5mm rounding up or down on the spacer multiplies with the more spindles needed. It may sound complicated but as I said, it's just three measurements and a calculation!

will all spindles be the exact same length?

The vertical pieces that are between the handrail and bottom rail. There’s a different name for the bottom rail but my 72 yo brain forgot what it is called.

The stairs look lovely but unfortunately, as a person who is just learning, there is a lack of information. You don't say what you use for the fillers in between the spindles, no idea how you decide how many spindles I need, how to cut the shape for the bottom of the spindles etc. This isn't a video for a newby... 😢

You need to work out the spacing first.

Spacing looks wider than 99mm to me. And why cut one spacer to the angle and the other end at 90 degrees? Just keep the saw set at the same angle and use a staff/marker. Is it me or is this video misleading and low in proper information?
