I'm doing this on an N52B30 at the moment and I just can't seem to pop the clip for the PCV off. You make it look so easy!

Okay I got it off, turns out you can just squeeze the raised pieces and the clip and it'll slip off. No need to pry it with a screwdriver like I did

That's a bracket for the a/c line at the back of the engine bay, if you take it off it gives you a lot more room to get the valve cover on/off!

Does the eccentric motor self-calibrate on startup? I have to do this job along with the eccentric motor sensor.

Yes that's correct! Just turn the key to position 2, and you'll hear it adjust before (takes 3-5sec) before you start the motor 👍

I might have to try disconnecting the harness ,but even then there's a hard oil linne that goes across the valve cover into the oil pump. Which prevents me from taking it out

just the valve cover gasket will usually do, but I'd recommend atleast doing the valvetronic motor seal so you don't get oil in your sparkplug tubes

@@rushbuzzy Before you start this job just check if your BMW model has a vanos bolt recall if so it will save you the pain tackling it yourself. They also replaced the valve cover free of charge on my N52. Good luck.

You can just manually back it off with a Allen. Then when you go to turn the car back on turn key to accessorie then back off a couple times to reset the servo

When checking for leaks (at the end), how will applying lubricant help...? Did mine 1.5 months ago, started leaking again, but not as bad yet. Days later also got an "air mass mix" error code. Car drops revs when idling and/ or standing still in Park. Checked everything, it looks fine, sensor fine. CAN a leak at the tappet cover caise this air sanction issue? Thanks

Check the EGR hose on the back of the valve cover. These turn brittle due to heat sink, when you removed it from the valve cover it may have fractured. It is wrapped in closed cell foam so its hard to visually see if it is broken but a gentle squeeze along the hose should give you an idea if it's still in one piece.

Thank you. Will have a look. I actually replaced the entire tappet cover about 7 weeks ago. No leaking evident, until 2 weeks ago when I had to hard brake and make a sharp left turn...seconds later white smoke appeared from the bonnet. Parked and it's like oil spewed out at the side again...meaning there is a opening, even though no visible oil yet. But that hard brake and sharp turn did something.

Whenever you do valve cover gasket jobs, you tend to get oil and other crap on the exhaust. Once you start it up, it quickly burns whatever fell onto the exhaust

@ferrenxavier the battery was in the trunk and I disconnected both ends and closed the trunk, which made it impossible to open to reconnect the battery without doin some wire splicing and shit and connecting another car battery with some wires, so make sure you don't close the trunk if the battery is disconnected, and the egr hose broke while trying to disconnect it so I could get the valve cover off, so I would probably order a spare before hand cus those things are brittle if they're old, and the little center gaskets kept slipping out while tryna put the valve cover went on
