Placing the 'blame' for a demotion onto the person who promoted them in the first place is such an interesting concept. One of the reasons i really like the Turians.
@sidetracker34967 жыл бұрын
SecondSince Not necessarily the right answer. Case n point yes if you promote a blabbering baffone yes the blame lies solely on you. But if a cunning individual who is not up to the task fakes his achievements and lies about his abilities successfully by tricking everyone e or by stealing other people's accomplishments and he gets promoted...the blame is certainly that of the liar. The only reason why this doesn't happen with the Turians is because of their strong ethics code....or we just aren't told about it.
@cordar75477 жыл бұрын
Well, it's explained in their description that they have a strong sense of civic duty that comes in part from their ten to fifteen years of mandatory military service, starting with boot camp at age 15. In short they prioritize the group over oneself to the point where criminals more often than not will confess to their crimes if directly confronted about their wrongdoings.
@MarikHavair6 жыл бұрын
The promoter would still be guilty of being taken in by a ruse, judging not just the merit, but also the character of said promotee is a crucial task. You could argue that placing blame for the failures of a demoted Turian on his promoter is quite open for abuse by a cunning corrupt Turian seeking to abuse his rank from behind a shield, and you'd be right, but establishing the character of an individual you've sponsored for promotion is easily as important as their competence. So like any system there's no clear "winner", mostly just circumstantial trade offs in either direction.

@Xpistos5104 жыл бұрын
And Rome borrowed culturally from Sparta. There are valid comparisons to both. Turians seem to be philosophically Aristotelian and Socratic, as much as they are politically Classical Republican (Roman). Rome's military was directly inspired by Sparta. So I think that comparing them to Rome is better because it's more encompassing of all of these philosophical Greco-Roman values. Public service and civic nationalism were paramount in both societies. But if Turians are Spartan-Rome, then Asari are more Athenian.
@bryanjames75283 жыл бұрын
Looking closely, Spartan culture of not accepting slaves or non Spartan free civilians into becoming Spartan citizens was its downfall. Spartans only made up 10% of their population while slaves made up 80%. Their strict military discipline was the result of them fearing slave revolts which also forced them to only commit 1/3 of their force to war. This in turn resulted in their decline after their wars with Athens which saw almost all their military aged men killed. Alexander never invaded them cuz by his time Spartan only had 1500 men but they were only a shadow of their former selves. By the time of Roman Empire Sparta was jus a tourist attraction. Their discipline during the Roman times was just borderline physical abuse which is what we see in 300 or in books. Which is why Turians is more suited to be compared to Roman legionaries as they both were involved in not just military but public infrastructure, fire fighting, law enforcement and government clerks

@Sidtheboon6 жыл бұрын
This channel is insanely good. The narrator for most of the sci-fi series is so clear and concise and really does deserve so much credit for presenting such complex worlds and storylines so well, though the channel as a whole is excellent. Something that might be interesting to go into is how these societies might function on a broader level outside of the lore that has been given to us. For example, what are the social other norms in Turian society or, in W40k, what roles do sexuality and criminality play in such a large and diverse empire, and with the multitude different species? These may seem like abstract things but they all relate, as we are seeing now, to the issues advanced societies face, such as those in the video and those we live in. I think it'd be really interesting to think about how a lot of the political, social and economic issues we experience now might apply to these imaginary worlds. At the end of the day, the way a lot of these games, novels, and films deal with these worlds is limited, purely out of completely human constraints like time. But still, how would things like racism and trade work between different species work in universes like those of Mass Effect and W40K?. Either way, keep doing what you're doing, it's great! Also do some stuff on the Endless Space 2 universe!!! It's so rich in unique and fascinating lore!
