Very interesting. As a child and teen, I attended a Presbyterian church, which split off into a Baptist church and when I got saved , I attended a Pentecostal church and got a BTH from a Pentecostal college. Problems in my life ( un-dealt with sin) caused me to seek refuge in an Evangelical Orthodox Church. It all seemed fine, but I noticed two things over about an 10 year period. First, the lives of some of the pillars of the church unravelled revealing all manner of evils, and most of the young adults did not live godly lives, and second, while starting off with scripture and Orthodox tradition as twin authorities...they slowly moved away from scripture until when I left , they were buying into the heresy of Universalism. I confessed my sin to God and never looked back, realizing that much like the Catholic church, they resorted to external rituals in place of internal transformation through the Holy Spirit. As of now, I have no problem attending any church that believes the Bible to be the inspired word of God , and where people show by their lives that God has transformed them by the Holy Spirit.

Shaun, I stopped about ten years ago as well. My walk with Christ is way better. Having an attitude that God is going to invite me into what he is doing as opposed to asking him to put a stamp of approval on a program that we start up is a game changer. I now know my neighbors and have real relationships with them. This was not possible with work and being at church every time the doors were open. Best thing I've ever done.

Seems so familiar. I went to my home town back in the Middle East and while I was there I had a chance to do a lot of evangelization to my sisters family and friends. Nothing went wrong while I was there, but oh my gosh! After I came back home there were so many disasters coming one after the other every single day for a whole week, just to name a few: my refrigerator broke down on me . I had my freezer full of food and they all perished and I had to buy a new refrigerator. My phone stopped working, my kitchen window was broken and a lot of other things happened. But, and this is the interesting part, while all these accidents were happening, which I believe were allowed by God, He was helping me through all this by having them fixed or replaced without any problem, fast and easy. My mother was raised in the Orthodox church in Latvia, but when she married my father, a Latvian Lutheran, we were baptized and confirmed in the Latvian Lutheran church. However, my mother had recordings of Orthodox hymns that she would listen to so she wouldn't forget. She passed away several years ago ,and I haven't been in any church for years. The other day, I watched a video of a woman in an Orthodox church in Latvia sing the Agni Parthene, both in Greek and Latvian, and then I also played a recording from a Greek Orthodox choir singing it, and in both cases, what happened when I heard it was so profound that I began collecting videos and recordings of Orthodox choirs and chants. I love Gregorian chants as well, but they don't go as deep into me as the Orthodox ones do. Listening to these has influenced me now to apply for conversion to the Orthodox church.

Regarding the "ad orientum" versus "ad populum" question, whether the priest should face towards or away from the people, I'll say this: when we'd form up as a platoon in the Army, our platoon leader or platoon sergeant would be in front of us, facing away from us. They were there to lead us into battle. A priest is leading his parish in worship, which necessarily is spiritual warfare on some level. A priest serves as a go-between between us and Christ only in the same way our platoon leader guided us regarding a commander's direction. Of course, our Great Commander has an amazing open-door policy. We don't need the priesthood in order to access Christ, but we do need them to lead us and guide us in battle, the battle we fight every day.

They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the third of three." And there is no god except one God [Allah]. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment. So will they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger (prophet); [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.
@@TheGuideBv It is not rare in the U.S.! Most people just don't hear about it because they don't know what Orthodoxy is. Many people, especially young people, are tired of the hypocrisy of some of the churches they've grown up in. You either give up on faith or dig deeper. I was an atheist for a long time after bein raised Catholic. I became agnostic after a while. Enjoyed some new-agey spirituality for a while. Considered Islam for a bit after that. Ended up becoming protestant, played guitar at a church and a few different churches so I was a part of the staff and would see what happened behind the scenes. Nothing horrible but just disheartening. I felt empty and felt that my internal life and private life didn't change for the better. There was no reverence for creation and holy places. I didn't know how to pray. I didn't know there were so many different types of protestants who had different ideas...that part was hard. I simply thought I would be a Christian but it was more confusing than I had expected. When my friend invited me to an Orthodox Church I had no intention of converting. But the beauty of the Liturgy touched my soul. There was peace and harmony in the congregation. Everyone knew why they were at the Liturgy; there was no confusion, everyone was attentive, and it moved me. The priest, in such beautiful vestments, looking like the most holy person I'd ever seen, turns to us and says "My brothers and sisters, forgive me and pray for me." I was blown away by this. This guy is asking ME to pray for him?! lol. There was something so holy looming above me, I felt after I'd gone home that Sunday. The Orthodox church was home. I had found my home.

You have to attend a service and experience it for yourself. It’s one thing to ask questions, it’s another thing to see it through. ♥️

If you want to learn more there are really two books/video/interview that you should give a shot. I recommend Fr. Josiah Trenhams videos Rock and Sand part 1 and 2 he is former reformed taught in seminary by RC Sproul who became Orthodox Priest so a lot of his answers in that will help you. I also recommend reading really anything by Fr. Seraphim Rose, but a good starting point is "The Soul after death" if you start with those it will help you immensely.

Father Paul covered a lot of things in concise and easy to understand explanations, very well explained. I'm impressed. Many of those who converted to Orthodoxy said that the impression they had when they first entered an Orthodox church was that they felt like home. Orthodoxy is the original Apostolic Church, no wonder it feels like Home.

I love this man. I have never met a protestant who is genuinely curious and interested to visit other churches from different traditions to their own. This is a really cool channel about building bridges.

We changed to Orthodoxy in 2019. Husband was a Roman Catholic deacon for 21 years. We are home. Was there criticism from the RC church, you bet. I am now so happy to invite others to our church. It was the best decision of my life and my husband feels the same. My regret is that we did not "find" the Orthodox church till we were in our 60s. I pray you will make the right decision. T
