I always wanted another Battle Brother kind of game. Two most important aspects are mercenary customization, and number of choices/degree of freedom on campaign map. Hopefully this game is decent on both.

Looks quite good. The battlefields could use more verticality. I know that adding it makes balance far more difficult, but it also opens up so much in terms of manipulating range and cover. Even having a height -1, 0, +1 +2 can make a massive difference.

There are maps with it too :) plus lots of terrain obstacles to use, for example weapon range matters even for melee, putting pikemen behind a fence will mean they can attack from behind it (or form pike wall from behind buddies) :)

@@kam2150 Ah, good to hear. I know from my experience making some battle systems that adding in height can snowball how difficult calculations are to understand on the fly. But if you are using that for melee all the time anyway I suppose it would be a lot easier to intuit range differences with height. Very cool man, looking forward to it.

My issue and question is can you do real life medieval tactics/formations and how many people can I have? Like can I have pikemen behind a shield wall with crossbowmen in the front that then run into the channals I make so they can get behind the wall. Or is it a bit more limited where you can only have a squad up to like 8 which is not enough for me to do these cool formations.

While you won't be able to have more than 8-9 at the same time (most real time RPGs usually limit it to 4), tactics you mentioned work due to how weapon range works. For example pikemen can attack from behind your shield wall, which gives you some early flexibility where you can put heavier armor and shields on frontline guys but give pikemen lighter armor, until you can give them better stuff. Due to variety of abilities, you can even try some crazy builds like pikemen only, then during combat first line uses brace ability that will try to keep enemies at a distance, while 2nd ranks pokes at them. There is a lot of tactical freedom for the players and having varied weapons is encouraged as they all come with some unique aspects to them. Worth mentioning is that you can also fight with AI allies on the battlefield or even join sort of three way battle (e.g. your party, bandits and monsters), in which case amount of characters on screen gets quite high.

These games are good but usually too difficult and turn into a grinding slog where you’re constantly replacing troops until one day you just don’t click launch and never touch it again.

The game looks good but unfortunately it's "Profile Features Limited" on Steam, which I would not buy. Anyone knows the reason of getting this tag on Steam and how could the dev get rid of this tag? I guess it's due to the small number of wishlisting players since the Steam page was published?

This is the case with [most] unreleased games. Steam publically available documentation for "Profile Features" reads: 1) "Games that have achieved broad player engagement and some commercial success are eligible to create content that players can use in their Steam Community profile. These include Steam Trading Cards, Badges, Background, and Emoticons." 2) "We do not find that lack of profile customization options is a major factor for customers who are deciding whether to buy your game. In general this mainly affects games whose only value is in profile features (trading cards, emoticons, etc)."

One thing that the documentation didn't mention is that when players complete 100% achievements of the games with this tag, the number of perfect games shown in players' profile would not be added. In other words, games with this tag would not be counted as "perfect games". This has been experienced and confirmed by me. I'm not sure whether games with this tag would be counted in the number of games players own, shown in Steam profile. This is the main reason why some players would avoid buying games with this tag.

It's not Mount and Blade... it's more like Battle Brothers with of course graphical update and different gameplay mechanics but it's closer to that than anything else.

Key differences compared to WarTales: 1) Real-time combat 2) Historical backdrop + Fantasy enemies inspired by bible and folklore 3) Different player fantasy - leading a knightly order, not a mercenary party 4) Clearer (more meaningful?) campaign objectives

Mount and blade is a clickbait, there's only five guys and probably the gameplay is going to be War Tales like, except the battles will be like Diablo. I doubt you can own a town here with just 5 guys as soldiers.

5 guys is the party size in tutorial, once you can recruit more characters, you can have up to 8-9 guys at the same time (currently 9 but might change) and then more in the overall party. Mount and Blade was the inspiration for campaign map. Combat overall is the most similar to Dragon Age Origins.

@@kam2150 I don't mean to hate on it but it reminds me of XCOM type stuff. I like massive battles and I want to se more of that on a grander scale. Not my cup of tea this trend
