I've used this technique that I've learned from this video on multiple fairy gardens. It's spot on. And even if you're not using a mixture of herbs, or your mixture isn't the color that you want, once its sealed with glue you can dry brush different greens/yellows/blues/whites/golds over top to get the look you want.

A very good idea, with the majority of herbs useful as is, for modeling forest litter. Since herbs for culinary purposes readily lose their pungency and need to be routinely replaced, the alternatives to throwing them away are many for the modeler. A simple idea, yet one that I have not seen before on KZbin. Thank you.

I've been gathering sand from different places (different size ratios and colours) and sieving it to get useable sizes. Now I've realised I'll have to take leaves too, and crush them once they're dry. Inspiring!

Old tea is a fine scatter material, too. You can cut open the bags after you're done brewing, let it dry out, and you're set. If you drink loose leaf, then you can skip the bags and just lay it out to dry.

I've used a mixture of basil and reindeer moss (ripped into tiny pieces) lately, gives a bit more 3D look to the bases. I used basil and oregano for a long time, I've never thought of mixing them. I was wondering when you'd get to herbs as flocking. Great channel, very enlightening!

recently found another flocking material: dried and shredded sphagnum moss. it's cheap, and the live stuff is easy to grow for an infinite source of it. i tried some out an a bottle brush type armature for a pine, but the result was much more appropriate for a regular tree. something about the flaky structure of it makes it look much more leafy then needley.

Thanks for the video! Exactly what I was looking for. I want to put down a thin layer 9f soil first and then, on top of that, the herbs. Would you put watered down PVA on top of the soil to glue the herbs down? And if so, how much would you water down the PVA? Or would you glue the herbs to the soil completely different? Thanks for making these videos!

Holy cow, that came out absolutely incredible! I never would have thought to use the dried herbs from the cabinet as a flock. IDK why you'd want to go back to flock after this! I mean I can see if you spread it out among regular flock and foilage clumpage. Should be fantastic on rockier, sloped terrain. I wonder how your bunker and trench builds would look if you had used this instead of regular flock, or at mixed it in. Could this work for rubble from buildings or will it come out too natural pieces? Could you use this on basing miniatures instead of simply terrain? Thanks Mel

Loved this guide, and i think i royally pissed off anyone in the house by over hoarding tea lol For anyone new to this, i have a warning to issue: -Certain tea types wont work.. (Charmomile tea and i think the fruit variety is bad for this) Be wary if you use used tea bags to dry - it stains. ALOT Be wary of pollen. Dried unused tea may have some(none in herbs tho) and may trigger sneezing. Thats all. Random Hint: try using concrete primer instead of water for pure basing and in forms - never cracks and you gain more volume.(just make sure its thick as milk) I just found some leftover from the tiles, never hurts experimenting.

Mod Podge has a very light varnish in it. Besides helping the product dry uniformly, it dries harder and clearer than PVA. PVA, as it dries, forms a skin that can push light terrain away as it dries. The varnish in Mod Podge helps prevent this.
