Hey, I've been watching a ton of your videos and for someone just starting out making terrain for the self they're the best. I'm sure the old vets get something from them too but they've been a massive help for me. Please keep it up, you're a great teacher.

Great vid,Mel.The PVA sticking/sealing problem is one that I've had more than once but the tacky glue looks to be a very elegant solution.Cheers mate.

Great video. I tend to make vines by coating green wire in super glue and then dipping it in flock before gluing it in place. That works well for clinging vines climbing up wooden posts and similar, but this looks better for vines covering flat surfaces.

+Avianon It's a solid way of making vines mate, especially when mixed with twine

That's great. I wouldn't have thought to have use a tacky glue. Live shows from the kitchen? "Cooking with Mel"? "Getting a brew on with Bose"?

What are some other glues that will work instead of Woodland Scenics Hob-E-Tac? I can't find that locally and it's expensive to order online. (I'll probably get some eventually) What about Titebond II wood glue? It's a type of PVA that I think crosslinks and it dries waterproof, so it shouldn't reactivate when you apply the sealer. Or Eastman E6000? (but that might attack the foam) I don't think rubber cement would stick tight enough. There's also "construction adhesive", but that is really messy; not sure if it could be applied with a small sacrificial brush. I have some Titebond II and E6000 so I might test them on some scraps.

I'm sure you got this question tons before, but with all the talk about glue, what kind of glue due you prefer to use on MDF kits like this? I think you were using regular PVA, but I couldn't tell for sure. Thanks!

+Brian Davenport Slightly dehydrated pva, it's a bit thicker and doesn't tend to run as much mate. Just leave the lid off the bottle for a couple of days ;-)

Great video Mel. When I first got into wargaming I had a TERRIBLE time trying to flock my infantry bases. It took awhile to sink in, but eventually I learned that PVA has it's problems. Becoming re-activated just when you have everything looking the way you want... Grrr! I think I'll try this method next time I do bases. QUESTION: Can you thin down the tacky glue? If so, how? Thanx as always. :-)
@TheTerrainTutor9 жыл бұрын
+Bill D. in Iowa Not that I'm aware of mate, never had to thin it before :-/

And after all that, a big thank you for this great little tute Mel.I found the principles & technique very useful indeed, and a great speed-up. My modelling presently requires loads of climbing vegetation (see below) & this is much better technique!Mel, I have recently been given a Grendel Chapel by a well-meaning person: yes it's your prototype terrrain piece I have accompanied on its journey with you. Hilarious.Ah What to do about the horrid smooth resin back half,. And the thousands of bubbles on the "good" side. Pity because it's a charming design. Best ones, V

+Vikki Wilson What's the Grendal Chapel? You've kinda lost me lol
@vikkiwilson50699 жыл бұрын
+TheTerrainTutor YOU DON"T KNOW THE GRENDEL CHAPEL?? It's the ruined chapel affixed to your well-known and well-loved test piece. Made by Grendel range, very old model and mine is full of bubbles.Trying to figure how to make up the plain side. I'll cast it all with brushable latex mold in thin plaster & the chop out bits of stone wall and the back of windows to affix the plain side. Then cover with tacky glue and Ivy on the inside. Given the hidden horrible plain side of piece (not shown on pack picture) I think your early clay job is a triumph!

@vikkiwilson50699 жыл бұрын
+Vikki Wilson Should be good... but. shrug.I love the glue gun & I understand there are some good grabby tac glues for crafts. I agree PVA no good unless you like sitting there for hours fondling scenery.
@vikkiwilson50699 жыл бұрын
+Vikki Wilson Hobby Tac requires a good half hour wait for it to get tacky (typically to use with its tree armatures.) Mel's other alternatives that work right out of tube are far better.
@TheTerrainTutor9 жыл бұрын
+Vikki Wilson Why?
@vikkiwilson50699 жыл бұрын
+TheTerrainTutor Takes far too long to get tacky - requires quick tack, like some fabric glue.Not hanging around like a globby mess for hours.Yours is a good technique - a superior technique - & Ill try it out- with some faster tacky glue.I note that terranscapes says he threw it in bin & Luke Towan laughed and agreed.
