Interesting insight on how to prepare for the GAMSAT. What really made me have an eye opener was that fact that even though you may think you know it all and have perfect memory, without the mental strength and endurance you will fall without even making the first step during the exam. Thank you for this video, really had a lot of doubt in regards to whether I would be able to pursue something that seems for far for me as I am only an undergraduate student AND thinking of studying medicine in a few years time. Hope I can reflect on this comment one day in a time and place where I have succeeded my goal! :)

It's great that you've got some good resources on hand - my biggest tip would be to get started on practice questions as soon as possible to give you an idea of where you're placed. Dear Tess, I'm trying to get admitted to a medical degree in Australia via the GAMSAT route. I've got some questions about the GAMSAT and how to get your S2 score into the 50s or 60s or better. As for the GAMSAT cut off situation now, for example the University of Western Australia had a GAMSAT cut off of 64 for 2019 entry if you have a GPA of 7 (I have a GPA of 7 according to UWA's admission requirements). I did the GAMSAT (1st attempt March 2019) and got an overall score of 55 (32nd %tile) (score breakdown: S1: 54 (26th %tile), S2: 41 (2nd %tile), S3: 62 (72nd %tile)). I realised that S2 (the God forsaken essay section) would be the hardest section for me so I only studied for that, but I got writers block in the GAMSAT, wrote next to nothing as a result, and only got an S2 score of 41 (2nd %tile) as a result. I'm really wondering how I can improve my S2 score, I honestly have no idea on this. It appears that you need to have an astronomical amount of knowledge to be able to write something that fits in with the S2 stimulus quotes in the S2 paper. It's as if you have to be like the real life "Rain Man" Kim Peek to have a hope of doing well in S2 of the GAMSAT (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/en3TdJl-fZaCjLc and kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqenpqSNbrh5ipo). If I can get my S2 score into the 60 to 65 (60th %tile to 84th %tile) range or better then it would be worth putting in the time studying for S1 and S3. How do you achieve an S2 score of 60 to 65 (60th %tile to 84th %tile) or better without being like Kim Peek?

Sorry for my delay in getting back to you! There are two types of medical degrees in Australia - undergraduate where you don't need a prior degree, or post-graduate where you need to have completed an undergraduate degree first. I don't believe they take masters degrees into consideration for post-grad admission, but I recommend looking on the websites for each university to clarify their entry requirements!

Hi Leslie - there are various courses out there for section 1 and 2 also (I just didn't use them), as well as tutors that focus on these sections. I also believe that people who are ESL can take a dictionary into the exam? But maybe double check that on the official ACER website. Cheers!

Hi - thank you for the video. You are gorgeous! I am entering GAMSAT September and have my materials - will start on Monday. I don't want to spend money on courses and tutors as many friends have said that it is pointless and I personally learn better teaching myself. My sister is good at sciences and hopes to enter too (as an undergrad) so I can ask her for help. But I have no science background, my degree is in the Arts. Am I dreaming? Lol. Is 4/5 months enough to learn the material? I have started volunteering at a hospital too, so am very serious!

Oh that is so lovely of you to say, thank-you :) It is definitely possible to do well in the GAMSAT being from a non-science background, quite a few of my friends at uni didn't do science as their undergrads! I think 4-5 months should be heaps of time to prepare, but it's different for everyone and depends how much time you are spending studying every day/how you learn best. If you work hard I'm sure you will do well! Good-luck :)

Hi Sagar - that's a great question! I gained an interview but wasn't successful in getting a med school place in the second year, so I sat the GAMSAT again to see if I could improve my chances of getting in the next year!

Hi Florence, I waited until I had received my results before I applied to med school. The university I’m studying at didn’t require a portfolio, but I did make one for another university that consisted of my experience as a Physio as well as quite a few extra curriculars.
