My girlfriend was from Chihuahua, Mexico and I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico; We met and fell in love in El Paso! We've been to El Paso many times since. With a suggestion from a friend who grew up eating at Chico's, My wife and I went to eat there. I can say "I've been there" and "Done that" but I can honestly say "I don't need to go there again" and "Who drinks tacos anyway"! I did enjoy the fries, but I guess my taste is geared toward more traditional Mexican or New Mexican food. I'm looking for other suggestions for dining in El Paso; After COVID........ Oh wow this just made me home sick. I miss El Paso, Texas. All my favorite food is in Texas. Florida is beautiful, but I’m not crazy about the food. For those of you who say , oh it’s just watered enchilada sauce and Fried taquitos, really!!!!!!!!!! I’m a very good cook, and I have tried to copy the recipe, nope!!!!! I didn’t come close. I’m 68 yrs old and I remember going to Chico’s Tacos since I was in high school. For teenagers, it was the place to meet and enjoy a cheap meal. Their tacos tasted so good back then. Decades passed and I never went back. However, a few years ago, a friend of mine invited me to go to Chico’s for lunch. In my opinion, the tacos did not taste the same. I remember they used to be delicious and savory but now the tacos taste different. The cheese and the sauce taste different too. The cheese had the consistency and taste of imitation cheese. If people are getting the “runs” after eating them I can see why 🤢. Everybody is different, so people might disagree but in my opinion, the tacos do not taste the same as they did 50 years ago LOL 😆 😝.

At first taste impression we were not impressed. Because I forgot to pour the tomato sauce on them I ate one dry. Until we poured and drowned the rolled tacos in the tomato sauce then yep we agree they were very very good. That we ate at chicos multiple times during our 3 day visit in El Paso. In Spanish we would call these flautas ahogadas. We will eat there again when we go back in July. Another recommendation that we loved at eating at was Gorditas La Doña. We could not get enough of those gorditas at a very good price. Best gorditas ever find them on google maps and all the reviews are 5 stars!! ⭐️

17 years removed from living in El Paso, I still crave nothing as much as getting some Chicos when I'm in town visiting family. Nothing quite like it. I've met many people in Texas and Louisiana who love Chicos. I've never met someone who knew about Chicos but didn't like them. I'm sure they exist but must not be many. She doesn't want to admit because she doesn't want to attract the wrong crowd, but, yes, Chicos has always been a hangover or still drunk go to place. When I was young my friends and I use to always be at Grahams Central Station dancing and boozing till near closing. Then we'd head over to Chicos to get right with the world. Amazing times.

I served jury duty with the guy who supplies Chico's. No insight on the recipe, but he said it's a very specific kind of cheese, and not local and they're just as picky about the other ingredients (believe it or not). They use Red and White ketchup, too which isn't like any other I've had. It's an experience, for sure. If you're ever in El Chuco, check out The Charcoaler, too - cannot beat those burgers.

I live in El Paso and enjoy these Chicos tacos. Not your ordinary tacos, but something special. After a Low Rider car show in Lincoln park, I take the family there for a taste of our home town. Great atmosphere. Awesome food. Order a double with crinkle fries and a soda. Later soak the fries in the sauce and enjoy. Make sure you add the green chili sauce before you start.

Nasty ass food!!.. Soggy tacos on Cheese that doesnt melt. I dont get the hype from El Paso people. Catch me at El Cometa when I'm visiting El Paso...now those are Flautas!

Two completely different things. Chico’s is known for the soggy tacos and cheese, Cometa is known for their flautist (I prefer the tacos al pastor with cheese) but both are great places. I prefer making Chico’s tacos from home though! Definitely try it, there’s recipes online
