My wife had experienced a depression for a period, so she kept reading the Quran even sometimes till fajar time and those were the times she would feel happiness but her sadness kept persisting, so she decided to go and see a doctor, the night before the day she wanted to see the doctor she had a dream about going to the hospital, and this doctor starts examining her head and the doctor goes to her your head is full of evil eye, she asks what do I do about it, he replies keep reading the Quran, Subhanallah, she goes to him but I read the Quran and there is no change yet, the doctor walks away. She wakes up in the morning and starts reading The Quran. The next flowing nights in a dream she gets told to read specific chapters in the Quran and she would read, after few days she gets well and true tranquility Alhamdulilah. I thought I should share that. May Allah make it easy for all of us

JazakaAllah khair. Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) is to the heart as water is to a fish; see what happens to a fish when it is taken out of water - Ibn Taymiyyah

Excellent discussion I must say I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this one. Working in Small Heath HC alongside Consultant Psychiatrists like Dr Waheed, I fully appreciate the level of depth he has given on the seriousness of MH and how Muslims should view it. Islamic Psychotherapy would be an excellent future step for the ummah who either do not fully understand MH or need Islamically inlined intervention to their conditions. Jzkhairan excellent discussion

As a scholar mentioned "I've never come across a practising hafiz with dementia" the nafs, Whispers, brain and heart are clearly correlated with mental health, the case can easily be made from a muslim perspective that the more practising the stronger the foundation and mental problem triggers are cut from the root not allowing room for the origin of negative thoughts to prevail. From personal experience the more i read Qur'an the less my brain weirdly feels less fogged I don't know how to explain it but you can experience the clarity and tranquility for yourself. There is a verse in the Qur'an "But whosoever turns away from remembrance, verily for him is a life narrowed down and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment." Sura taha , aya 124 The word used "dhank" translated as 'narrowed down' means also a very tight , weak , depressing life. This is evidence that the more remembrance of Allah the less depressed and mental problems you will have.

Masha'Allah, I agree 99% with everything Dr. Waheed said. And even for the remaining 1%, I'm not necessarily disagreeing. It's just that I think Dr. Waheed has yet to learn about the correlation between the state of the human mind and the visibility of the Jinn - that whether or not one can see Jinn is closely linked to the state of their mind. Our Prophet ﷺ never talked about psychosis per se, so it's hard to try to draw the correlation between the two simply by looking at hadith literature. But we do know that he ﷺ talked about dreams - and he told us that the phenomenon is linked to the realm of the ghayb, including the Jinn world. And today, scientists attempt to explain dreams based on observable brain activities. Put aside whether or not they're going in the right direction, at least we've learned from their studies that humans see dreams when their minds are in a certain state. So I suspect the same also applies to some mental illnesses. And this, by the way, also explains why medications help with psychosis. Because they alter the state of the human mind by blocking the effects of dopamine and whatnot - and we could say that as a result blocks contact with the Jinn world.

Mental health is actually also a phase to increase the iman, which could be captured as an issue of lacking of access to get a decent growth

We Muslims will be no different to non Muslims if we do not seek Islamic knowledge and practice it!!!

30:00 Feel like this neoliberal economic context and materialism contribute to the overemphasis on genetic factors for mental health. And that is really profound. Great to hear such a different perspective on the current mental health crisis. However, I would question if the lower mh diagnoses in religious societies is simply because less people are diagnosed.
@MohamedAli-hl8kz Жыл бұрын
Valid point, however, if that was the case it would have reflected the level of suicide in those Islamic Countries. For example where I’m from you hardly hear some one committing a suicide and these are people who experienced the struggles of life to it’s extremest
@afnandridi9595 Жыл бұрын
@@MohamedAli-hl8kz that's true. Thanks for your input. Suicide is on the rise in my country of origin though (algeria). Not sure if that is due to material circumstances or ideological via globalisation
@MohamedAli-hl8kz Жыл бұрын
@@afnandridi9595 I would lean more to the ideological aspect even though it could be bit of both or other factors but there’s no denying the rest of the world looks up to the west and they are setting this trend, I can imagine this increasing back home. I met a lady that works in the NHS she said 80% of the population experience depression (mild and severe) as some point in their life that is really bad
@afnandridi9595 Жыл бұрын
@@MohamedAli-hl8kz Oh wait my bad. That was just based on anecdotal experience and heresay. Looked at the stats now and it's actually decreased (the further away from the bloody 90s military coup we go) and then stabilised and was around a third of the rate in the uk as of 2019. Completely see your point- i wonder to what extent these stats are a reflection in the belief in suicide being haram though rather than decreased mental health problems relative to uk
@MohamedAli-hl8kz Жыл бұрын
@@afnandridi9595 sorry about the late reply, yes right, analytically, you could say the belief of (suicide being Haram, Allah doesn’t burden souls beyond it’s capacity, there is ease after every hardship, life being a test), all these beliefs plays a role and deters people taking that root but above all it’s the dikar of Allah that brings people back from the pit-hole and this is coming from the testimony of people that went through severe depression. Even in the western world people are starting to think this is more than chemical imbalance as it’s portrayed, where they are experimenting psychedelic drugs to deal with their issues.
