It's not just K POP because that word covers a lot of different genre's, it's the inclusion for the first time and in my opinion long over due Asia music talents Japan, China India and South Korea have some phenomenal artists but have struggled for a long time with breaking into main stream, but times are changing and I for one think it is brilliant. The people behind the camera's are in my opinion some of the finest directors, cinematographers, editors and stylist in the world, the M/V's are like little movies, and for the most part none of them are green screen they build those sets. BTS and BLACKPINK are incredibly successful, I love my girls but I prefer Stray Kids and Ikon and Ateez to BTS I applaud your reaction I too do not want them doing collaborations I don't even put the captions on because sometimes those captions are wrong, some Korean words don't translate into English and vice versa I go to a genius lyrics read them then come back and listen, Korean musicians have got a very good way of speaking English that follows Korean and you get the flow so you sort of get what they are singing in Korean that is extremely clever.

Great reaction. First, you should consider reacting the 2019 Unhelpful Guide to Blackpink (the one with 1.2 million views, there are many fakes). One thing that you may be totally unaware about, is the basis of the song and much of the symbolism in the song. After their debut and before this song came out each of the members were the targets of hatred, most notably Lisa, with racists attacks on line and in person, with violent threats forcing the Thai Embassy in Korea to get involved. This song is one big FU to all of their haters, "What you say doesn't Faze Me". In the chorus they are gunning their haters down, just look at their hands, they are holding pistols and the DDu Du DDu Du is the sound of shots being fired at their haters. They display Katana swords, pistols with their hands, and F**king tank, they are going to war on their haters while talking all sorts of smack and trash talk. Just go look at the 1 million dislikes this MV has to see that they have a shit-load of haters. The MV also addresses the high suicide rate of Kpop idols driven by online hatred. In Jisoo's scene where she falls, she first starts walking, and none of the men pay attention to the real Jisoo, they are totally focused and admiring the "celebrity" Jisoo (her portrait on the wall). But when she stumbles, they are now totally focused on the real Jisoo, but instead of trying to help her up, they are masked as assassins and pointing their cell phones (these are not paparazzi's, these are internet netizens) which have pistol grips indicating they are weapons to finish her off now that she has stumbled and is in a weakened state. However, Jisoo, stands straight up and proud, basically saying "go ahead, come at me, I am not going to be a weak little girl and hide under the covers, I am going to stand my ground and face your onslaught. I am pretty and savage," In other videos (How You Like That, Kill this Love), the imagery and symbolism are even deeper, bringing in Freudian psychology and Greek Mythological symbolism (see English Priest Reacts to How you Like That and English Priest Reacts to Kill This Love). Being from England you will appreciate that it is a Cambridge University graduate that majored in Greek Classism that explains the HYLT MV. I know your mind has been programed to think pop MV's are basically mindless dribble with cool beats. Not BP's. There are numerous KZbin videos explaining and detailing the deeper symbolism on a scene by scene basis. BP goes deep, very deep. BTW, common man, you are smart, you know BLINK is Black Pink minus the ack and the P. Surely a smart guy like you can come up with better bait for comments.

To me, good music is good music 🎶 whether it's in English or not. I've loved music from being a baby. Started singing in church as a kid, started band after the recorder in 5th grade with the flute 6th through 9th grade and then marching band(color guard) 9th -12th and winterguard 12th and 2 years in college. I listen to whatever sounds good. I learn to sing the part I especially love and groove along to the rest, which I end up learning by default, lol....

I will start off by saying that BLACKPINK is by far my favorite of the K-pop groups, and that everything that follows is my personal opinion and not an attack on K-pop, K-rock, or any fans of those genres. I don't give K-pop the chance it probably deserves for multiple reasons though, and I felt it worthwhile to explain here and maybe get some insight that I don't have. Your comment about not giving it a chance because it's not in a language I can understand... is both accurate and inaccurate at the same time. It's not that I dislike the genre because I can't understand the language but more that I want them to pick a language and stick to it. if you want to sing in Korean, fine. If you want to sing in English, that's also fine. However, by and large, I don't like songs that jump languages more than once in a song. There are exceptions of course, but that is my first issue with K-pop (and K-rock, etc). My other big issue with K-pop is more of a question, a lack of understanding. I don't know much of anything about South Korea or its culture, or how that influences their music. Western culture (and specifically American culture), for the most part, is found all the time in our music, from the country boys singing about their girl, horse, and cows leaving them to rappers like Eminem giving us deep cultural insights into what it was like growing up in Detroit to rockers, metal bands, you name it. If someone were to ask me what American culture is, I'd go straight to our music. So, having said that, what does K-pop/K-rock have to say about Korean culture? As far as I have seen so far, their culture SEEMS to be taking J-pop and J-rock, which is incredibly powerful and musically rich, watering it down, and releasing it to the world as "Lite" content. I don't mean specifically copying songs, but the genre and styles of music... and the reason they are so successful is at least as much to do with Japan's xenophobic tendencies making J-pop and J-rock harder to get in the west (as well as harder to find translations and that stuff) as it is to do with their own marketing strategies and talent. BLACKPINK seems to be one of the minority groups that actually does rich, complex music, and that is why I like them as much as I do. I like them because I can actually tell they have talent and can put on a solid performance, whereas I find it much more difficult for at least the early days of K-pop-SNSD, Girls Generation, etc. Rightly or wrongly, this is what I have taken from K-pop over the years. So please, do tell me-How specifically does modern Korean music (pop, rock, alternative, and so on) speak to their culture? I genuinely want to know.
