I spent 11 years in academia, had a great career afterwards. Then after getting married we moved to the US, where I stayed home with our kids. Rarely have I spoken about those achievements and people assumed I haven't done anything in life. Which caused me a lot of pain, as people can be cruel. But my identity was grounded in Christ and I love my vocation and the plan God has for me. That being said, yesterday I had a terrible altercation with someone I really care about. They tried to show me with vengence how wrong I was about something so fundamental to my field that it really hurt me. All those years of being treated this way accumulated in that moment. And the next morning I saw your podcast. What a beautiful reminder of how wonderful God is. He let me grow in my intellect, spirituality, but until I stayed home with kids I never really got a chance to grow in my virtues. And what kind of a blessing that is. That fundamental part is so misunderstood by many yet it is crucial! Even though that wisdom is hidden from the most, I will stay thankful for God's providence in my life. Those hidden battles when I deny myself over and over are so precious. God bless you Father Dominic.

I agree with Father Dominic on his understand of the carmelite view. If we read Edith Stein’s ‘the science of the cross’, she connects the theological virtues to the memory, the intellect and the will. So hope affects the memory, in terms of this conversation, faith affects the intellect and the will affects charity.

I was interested in the topic but the way the introductory prayers were done completely turned me off... mechanically and coldy said... as if repeated for the billionth time... We are praying to God Almighty, the Sovereign Lord of the Universe, we approach His Holy Throne... we cannot just throw some words at His face to get on quickly with them and move on to the lecture... we approach His Holy Presence every time we pray and I believe that we should address Him with meaning, feeling, pause and never in an empty recital form. Thank you. May God continue to bless your hard work with this great website.

I hope you’re not Catholic...bc we don’t need that kind of mental illness. Move along. Come back when you have respectability and humility

People just talk differently. I don’t see a problem with the prayer.

The prayer itself is the work of St. Thomas Aquinas, one of the holiest men who has ever lived (not due to his intellectual achievements, but due to his deep and abiding love of God). As for the manner in which it is said, God knows the intention of every human heart. He is not swayed by bowing and scraping.
