Great job, I was just about to type a comment mentioning the runout measurement was exaggerated over the 5 inches, then you mentioned it yourself! I did a video on arbor run out for my Shopsmith system. But because of the way the machine is built I was able to measure the shaft directly and measured 0 runout. Based on the trigonometry your 0.003 inches at 5 in radius should yield 0.0344 degrees deflection. If measured on a 5/8 inch arbor (r=0.625), that should yield 0.00037525 inches runout, which would not be within the precision capabilities of consumer devices. So, at the arbor you have 0 runout. Anyway, I am a big proponent of these digital indicators. It's a great way to monitor the impacts of wear and tear on out machines.

Very nice! Wow, I thought I liked math, but I think you have me beat. I also use the gauge to check the fence for parallel. Best

Just found your channel and subscribed. Nice work. I can do with one.

This is not measuring arbor runout, your method is checking how parallel the blade is to the miter slot. To measure runout you would keep the dial indicator in a fixed position and turn the arbor.

Thanks. The simple test I show actually indicates blade runout + misalignment to the miter gauge. I use it as a quick "seat of the pants" check, then do additional checks with the miter gauge stationary and rotate the blade to differentiate between arbor, blade flatness, and miter slot (trunion) misalignment. Best to you.

is that really arbor runout you're checking there? imho only if you made sure that mitre slot and blade are parallel beforehand 🤔

Isn't that measuring the miter slot being parallel to the blade?

The method I show actually measures runout+ misalignment of the miter track. I like it because it's easy to check periodically with the right gauge. Thanks

Hi i have 2 base cabinets that are grey in color, i need to stain them as best as possible to match the existing stain, Should i sand/ scuff / primer and stain? Or use a stripper and stain ?
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker Жыл бұрын
Painted cabinets switched to stain usually doesn't work out very well. Unless you know the wood species, it may be impossible to match to existing cabinets. It's usually better to re-shoot the cabinet with paint, or replace the whole thing. Best of luck with the project.

would this fit on jobsite saws?
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker11 ай бұрын
It's fully adjustable, so as long as your miter slot is 3/4" x 3/8" it should fit.

Thanks@@TheThoughtfulWoodworker, clicked into your review of the woodpeckers exact 90 as well, something awesome I haven't seen before. Will definitely be following your channel!

I bought one. Instructions are poor at best. There is a USB-c port on the side of the gauge but instructions say nothing about it! Otherwise, it worked OK.

Yeah I like the gauge a lot. I've been using it to measure collet runout on routers this week. I only wish the readout was backlit. Best to you.
