Van Helsing was my childhood comfort movie and obsession 😂. I remember coming home from Kindergarten with it playing in the living room and was instantly hooked! I proceeded to annoy the hell out of my family for years afterwards as I would watch it at least once every day! It’s now been probably almost a decade since I watched it, but I’m so ecstatic that there are others out there that love it almost as much as I do

The best description i have heard of this movie is that "It is the Nickelback of Gothic Action movies". It is a kind of guilty pleasure of mine as im fully aware of how convoluted the overall plot is, but i also love how it takes itself seriously while Hugh Jackman is shooting an automatic crossbow at CGI versions of those three actresses. As a side note, the licensed game that came out for PS2 and Xbox is actually a pretty decent game, it gains extra points cause Hugh Jackman and almost all the original actors redid their roles there.

I just rewatched this a couple months ago after enjoying as a teen, and I friggin loved it bc it just took itself so seriously. You're like okay, Franky boy, vampires, werewolves, what fun and silly play. But the story and even just the run time showed to take itself seriously and I think it's a bona-fide good movie. And how it betrays common tropes that you think will be there; I absolutely loved Van Helsing handing Dracula a big ol' crucifix, and Dracula screams in pain while holding it as it swiftly melts away in flame, and Dracula continues his monologue. So good
@LuxBellator9210 ай бұрын
I've always loved this film, ever since it first came out! I never understood the hate it gets. Especially, as you said, if you're a fan of The Mummy. They're more or less the same kind of movie. Hugh Jackman crushes it as the title character, and I genuinely think this is one of David Wenham's best roles too. He's hilarious as Carl! Kate Beckinsale doesn't offer much than being eye-candy (she's better in the Underworld films - also underrated vamp/werewolf flicks), but I still really like her here too. And Richard Roxburgh is fantastic here - easily, one of my favourite Dracula's. I always felt this movie was playing into the whole over the top silliness at times of the old black and white movies (the "it's alllliiiiive!" style stuff), while also still paying it respect. So if you watch it through that lens, it's so much more entertaining.

I was 13 when I first saw this movie. To this day I still say that this movie is one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie is the reason why I love vampires so much. I had such a crush on Dracula. I’m absolutely ok that the woman vampires in this movie were super sexy even when I was teen girl then. This movie got me into gothic horror. This movie also has some steampunk elements to it also. I personally love how they opened with it as black and white which was a great homage to the original universal movies. The masquerade ball scene was the best! This movie had sick music and I loved the ending credits. I could go on. I love everything about it!

I truly did not want this movie to end, I wish we had gotten a series that follows Van Helsing after the events of the film or a prequel explaining his past. They left alot on the table with the Lore. I loved the setting they filmed in, the action and character designs were awesome. For example, what other legendary beasts/characters could Gabriel go up against next, who has he already taken down before this film? The Devil was able to casually transform Dracula into a nealy unstoppable threat to the world, as a former Archangel would Gabriel ever feel the need to go after Satan himself? Where does Frankenstein's monster end up?

I just don't understand why this movie didn't do well. It was great. And no, this isn't nostalgia speaking, I've watched it as a kid, as a teenager, as an adult and I love it more each time. It had similar Box Office numbers to Batman Begins and Superman Returns yet only one of these 3 movies was allowed to go on and become greater. I'm willing to bet that had Van Helsing and Superman Returns had gotten their planned sequels, they would have only been better, at least at the Box Office. But oh well.

Idc what people say….. I absolutely loved this movie from the first time and that hasn’t changed at all since then👍😉 As far the”horrible” cgi complaints…tho as with a lot of older movies…it hasn’t aged well of course but I distinctly remember being somewhat awed by a lot of the effects at the time. I mean…I’m by no means saying that it was all good but the transformation scenes were freaking awesome back then.and even now the Van Helsing werewolf one at the end is pretty damn good imo! But even the bad ones are legitimately well designed creatures and just the way in which some transform is quite unique and even after all these years some of those awesome creature designs have yet to be bettered especially when talking about the creativity aspect imo. So yea…as you said in the beginning, it has everything you could ever want…and then some in an early 2000’s movie ffs! You got HughJackman, badass monsters, tons of over the top batshit crazy action scenes and needless slow motion awesomeness all wrapped up with a bow my dudes!😉👍😅

Unsure how a Vampire can be "over-sexualized" since that is a key aspect of the modern (and by modern I mean 1800's and so on) Vampire. I laugh at how bad Universal fumbled the Dark Universe to the point that it was a meme for many years and they decided to bring it back.....just as an area of their upcoming new park (focused/themed on the classic monsters) rather than a cinematic universe.

I actually really like the van Helsing take on the Dracula's brides, the sexualization in this case doesn't feel out of place or degradating, fits their characters, Vampires aren't bound to christian morals, they made them weird and playful, I aesthetically enjoyed their clothes, each of them having a signature color is kinda lame but also cool idk, they seem sort of odalisque inspired but each have a different clothing design that could lead to different heritage backgrounds, I find creative the idea of the fabrics morphing into their wings when they turn demonic, as characters they remind me of the succubus on the Castlevania games.

I woulda loved to see a comic continuation. The concept & design of this movie is so much fun & unique. And what a cool look for Van Helsing
