I noticed in my city that the trains load slowly. So i cant make it part of my entire network because (even tho its realistic) the loading times make travel times longer. So to solve this i placed rail yards and a station at each cardinal corner of my map. I placed two train stations ....one each in my two CBDs and each line has one important destination stop. Everything else is subway. Now building these elevated subway lines over the streets has been quite challenging and rewarding. And now coming into my city u can take express to get downtown or take the local subway with a bunch of stops in between. My motivation was the A/C trains in NYC. Another thing that could have been done was to make an elevated viaduct for passenger trains (in real life most of the commuter rail around the world is EMU, which can travel on steep grades and curves) and use existing tracks for freight trains. In that way, you can still retain level crossings as the the frequency of freight trains is low. Also, the, current setup still become bottleneck as freight and passenger share tracks.

Reducing the frequency of trains is a double edged sword really you save on the cost and trains are fuller but if the lines are long with multiple stops each train takes more time to reach it's destination which essentially destroys it's use as a daily commuter because people have to wait long hours making them late to their work. I don't know if the game factors in time to reach destination as a factor while assigning npcs their mode of transport each day but as a realistic city build less trains are generally bad for the office population.

Very good point. I'll try making them free to see if usage increases. If so, I'll reconsider adding more trains per line.

@@Timeister honestly the best thing anyone could do would be to use small trains but more frequently but i guess that is not possible is the game but making them free to use would be great as well

If you want to build a track (or road or path) parallel to an existing one, you can simply choose the new network, select the parallel tool, then just draw the new network ON the existing network. If you hit the nodes exactly it will leave the original network in place and add the new one parallel. I used anarchy and used this exact method to add a 2 way 2 lane country highway along a train track- the only problems were if I missed the nodes it places a section of the new network on top of the original one, but I was able to quickly delete the offending sections. FewCandy did a Cities Skylines 2 video with a bunch of tricks and tips and this was one of the ones she covered.

I personally (for cities not small regional towns with low traffic) like to terraform where my rail is to below or above ground level a bit as I prefer embankment to the the elevated bridge and will only change to bridge at road crossings. To limit any rail crossings and add layers to make terrain more interesting. You might be able to afford to make the ticket price free to increase passengers and boost frequency a bit. Removing the inner city rail yard since you have a second one out of the city that meets demand could be a cool idea for redevelopment/gentrification

I’d like you to start expanding more from the city to more of a sprawling suburban America with dead end streets in neighborhoods and main thoroughfares lined with shopping, low density commercial zones with plenty of suburban parking lots usually near highway corridors.

For the busy track sections why not upgrading them to a 4 track sections using the road builder? That would massively increase rail capacity and look amazing at the same time

29:49 I first want to make it clear, that I didnt watch the video till the end yet. So this might be noticed later on in the video. But why did u make an interchange just so that the line comming in from the right, could connect up from the left to the main line and not the right?

Why was the system not built as one route from Les Deux Locs going to Auburn and then to Downtown and then out the other-side of the map going from one end to another unless one of these locations was the terminal station? This is how all railways are throughout the world you either have one line coming from a direction and then terminating in the city center or you have two lines coming from different directions meeting at a central location like the city center. Also why so many lines. There is no where in the world where you would have a line with one station. In nearly every case of rail the railway was first and the city was built up around where the railway had stops at and the rail network would stay on the ground before an elevated bridge would be built they would make the cars go elevated on underground first.

The routes should be better theirs no proper hierarchy with ur rail routes like Cross Country (for American build Cross Country isnt really necessary) Intercity and regional. Take this information to make trains more efficient and realistic but for a person that doesn’t know that much about railways u haven’t done the worst job :) 👍 (this is my criticism)

Minute 28-30 is confusing. Why did you have to do all that? 😅 I think you meant to hook the rail coming through to the passenger rail line on the left, as opposed to hooking it up to the freight on the right.
