I honesty can't get over the treatment you supply for TMJ. This is the complete holistic and otherwise approach all specialists should be doing for all health problems. Bravo, you will help ppl in many ways not just with TMJ

What are good questions to ask a TMJ specialist when meeting them to make sure we're getting correct care? I've had some really bad dentists. In the same vein, what are good ways to advocate for our TMJ care w/ our regular dentist? I ended up not being able to eat for a week after having to hold my mouth open for a filling even after telling my dentist I suffer from really bad TMJ.

I will make a video about questions to ask. Most dentists have no training in treating TMD so there’s no great way to advocate for this with your general dentist.

Hi dr. Priya I have a question my question is what kind of mouthguard can you recommend for TMJ grinding I am grinding every day and I have a TMJ also I have so much pain in my jaw and also cracking sound in my right jaw is a big noise

I don’t recommend a nightguard for grinding. An appliance won’t stop you from grinding.

Hi Doc, do you have any tips for managing the pain when your doing combat sports (Wrestling and bjj)?
@theTMJdoc

TMJ orthotics will likely help with this!

@@theTMJdoc Thanks, do you mean during training sessions or at night?Because i have been wearing at night for a long time now (roughly 3-5 months and theirs been no change). Also, i mean any excercises and extra stuff I should do before training, and if in ur oppinion these sports are all right to do even though i have been in constant pain (albeit these sports may help me reduce my stress and tmjd pain)?

@@FM-dm8xj I’m sorry but I cannot answer this without follow up questions and further discussion. If you’d like a consultation, you can email my office to set up a zoom meeting with me.

Mam could you please tell will the disc displaced to forward or backward and how to recognise it manually as a patient .Is there different appliances for both occasions
@theTMJdoc
@theTMJdoc Жыл бұрын
The disc is displaced forward 99% of the time. Only an MRI can show where the disc is

I’d recommend speaking to your primary care physician about that..

Hi Priya, have you had any cases of patients with tinnitus finding relief from symptoms after treating their TMJ/D?

So when you say flare - do those typically end and patients have no symptoms, and can resume eating normal foods? I guess I just don’t know how to tell if a flare is ended, if I should have no pain or if slight pain is the new baseline.

Some people have flareups that end and the pain stops completely. Others have continuous pain.

Yep...side sleep locks jaw once in a while. Wake up in a panic and physically push jaw or a large crack puts it in place. I sleep on my back partly sitting up. No dentists have been able to even comprehend tmj. They have turned my head so far to one side when working on my teeth it gave me a click now on the other side too.

This sometimes happens to me too, and I’ve also panicked! but what I found helps to release it is to of course…not panic 😂 try to relax/loosen your tension in your body (take a few deep breaths) then massage the muscles around the jaw/ upper neck and it usually opens/unlocks without needing a almost no force, a heat pack might help too.

What are your thoughts on arthrocentesis? I have anterior disc displacement without reduction on right side only. My oral surgeon says that is the only thing to recommend otherwise he advise I just live with it.
@theTMJdoc

I have an over 90% success rate with treating disc displacement without reduction in a conservative fashion and without arthrocentesis.

Mam I have tmj anterior disc displacement without reduction as mri reported on both joints. I have clicking and poping sounds for several months but two days ago when I woke up in the morning I found that I couldn't open my mouth more wider than two fingers. My left jaw had locked. Although it had happened with me several times before also, but every time it usually opened itself. When I went to a dentist he advised me arthrocentesis which was very painful. But my jaw suddenly got unlocked after the procedure And next day when I woke up it again got locked. Then the doctor advised arthrocentesis one more time and after that it unlocked again. And now I can open my mouth up to 4 fingers but there is a clicking and poping sound in the jaw. And it also clicks when I try to touch my molar teeth together. And I also feel some pain on touching the molar teeth together. But I don't feel any pain on opening the mouth. Can this exercise help me? And my doctor was telling that if arthrocentesis would not help you then we will have to perform a surgery called arthroscopy. But I can't go for surgery because I recently had an ear surgery two months ago. So please mam tell me what are thealternative treatments for whom should I go for? Please 🙏 mam reply.
