The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. If you wear headphones, your mind won't be blown, but it will go, "woah, that's cool."
I'm also the producer for the Winding Road KZbin Channel:
kzbin.info
Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly press vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, it's pretty nuts. Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later!

LUV the sound of that boxer engine!! I just bought a new BRZ today, will be taking delivery in mid-April once the worst of the snowstorms are over and the potholes get filled..winter in Canada makes for crappy roads especially in spring. Driving an Impreza now which I love, but this is my treat. Snow tires are mandatory here from December 1st to March 15 and I live on the side of a mountain, will be getting good snow/ice tires made right here for next winter.

Awesome twisty mountain roads and lots of mountain bike trails nearby. I see a lot more of these cars here. Arizona 86 has three chapters in the Phoenix area with meets every week. Would be a cool road trip if you haven’t been to Phoenix. Save that interior get a bike rack! I got a hide a hitch that I attach a rack to . Super easy install and the rack can be taken of in about a minute.

It isn't as hard as it sounds. I also daily drive a BRZ in Northern Alberta. I just had to put a new battery to replace the 4 year old OEM one. Aside from brake pads, rotors and oil... that is all I had to do to it after 86000km. I drove it from Toronto to montreal, montreal to gagetown NB in the winter and from gagetown to edmonton in the summer. Still drives like a dream. (the astute among you might be able to guess my profession. bonus points). I have only been stuck once. Snow was at the bumper and I was beaching but, oh man, did the car try. The traction control was kicking in and I was putting along at 5kph ish and i had to turn and that is what got me. I was able to rock out of it a couple times but I couldn't make the turn without a guy pushing. I love driving this thing in the winter. Like the guy said, it's tail happy, a challenge, teaches invaluable skills and it is really fun. Don't even attempt it without proper tires. It is a death wish. I did it once out of necessity and it was the stupidest thing I have ever done. My breaking distances were like 250-300m from 60 kph. GET SNOW TIRES.

I also daily drive my 2015 BRZ in Wintertime. I have Continental WinterContact Si 215/45R17 tires mounted on Enkei M52 wheels: stock diameter. They've always performed well on ice, snow, and in the wet and even on cold, dry roads. They're grippier and more predictable than the OEM Michelin Harmony's ; I find that I can hang the tail out more on the WinterContacts without the traction control engaging than on the stock OEM tires. I've had them for three years. Unfortunately, Conti stopped building this size and I'll probably get Michelin X-ICE instead. We just had a nice, icy snowfall this evening and I took the BRZ out for fun: nice, controllable oversteer on slow speed corners and predictable rotation on faster bends. BRZ is my snowmobile.

Nice vid. I winter drive my BRZ too - same size tires as yours as I moved mine from a miata. It's 5 times the fun in winter as it is on dry roads in summer, so well balanced. I don't find it too difficult to get stuck on steeper hills, but there aren't too many where I live. The only downside for me is my gearbox sucks from first to second in the cold, and by the time I get to work it hasn't had chance to warm up. On the other hand, pulling out of a sideroad in second avoids this issue, and makes it much easier to hold a long drift from taking off. :)

Sup guys, I live in the sunshine state and even I have a notchy second gear when engine is cold. Right now during the winter + spring it gets as cold as my hometown and the one thing that works amazingly well is double clutching into second. After practicing for a few months I can't believe double clutching like you should is so easy, and second gear changes are buttery smooth if done right and much better than using the synchros even if not done perfect. Gonna change to red line Mt oil and red line diff oil but will always DC second gear, it's night and day.

When I switched to Redline 75w90 that helped with those second gear shifts a lot- but I know what you mean - now I'll either start in second or go from first to neutral and then gently into second for the first few minutes until things start to warm up.

I have bought a Hyundai i30N (not available in the us i think) instead of an BRZ in January 2018,because he is a 4 Door Hatchback, and a bit bigger....and more Power.BUT i am Still in Love with this Beautiful Car,if i had the Money,i would Buy an BRZ as my second Car. Greetings from East Germany O/

Topher you don't need to do the dust road thing with Krown --- it's not the old school way. Once it's on the steel it's bonded there. Don't forget to do their Salt Eliminator wash come spring.

I have a 2014 Brz as well, it’s my daily and I live in Canada. When I bought it people thought I was crazy because everyone drives AWD trucks or SUV’s but I personally wouldn’t have it any other way. The car handles extremely well, that and the manual transmission is what sold me on it 😆 It’s my first winter with it and I found this video was very informative; I’ll definitely be taking some tips and tricks from it! What are you thoughts on studded tires for the car? I’ve debated sandbags in the back but I also considered getting just the rear wheels studded as I have a second set of winter wheels and tires. I’ve found so far the car is really good for stopping in snow because of its light weight but for take offs when it’s icy it can be tricky. Also would love to see a rust proof video too on this car, if you make one in the future! Anyways, great video! You’ve just gained a new subscriber 😄 cheers!

Thanks! Studded tires can’t hurt, they’re not legal for us here in Michigan, but the key is a skinny tall tire (195 or 205). A sand bag in the trunk will help too but usually isn’t necessary. Lots of good things to say about Krown Rust Proofing, you can do it yourself or take it to a shop, you guys have a ton of locations up in Canada 👍

@@TheTopher I had no idea they aren't legal there, any particular reason why do you know? I decided against it anyways, and so far I haven't had any issues! I may have to invest in some different tires next winter though, and I'll definitely be looking into Krown Rust Proofing as well; thanks for the tip! :)

Owned and drove a jdm Toyota altezza in the Canadian winter. It’s definitely doable. Just need enough ground clearance and proper tires. Usually switched off tc just in case I slip unwillingly, I was able to stomp it rather than letting the car do. Snow tires>AWD

I have a genesis coupe and I got stuck 4 times already this week with winter tires + 1 19in wheel in the trunk and 4 all season tires in the backseat here in canada... It's doable but it can be quite the hassle lol. It's fun when you want to have fun, and definitely keeps you focused.

I always liked the BRZ/FRS/86 but the only reason I’m even considering to get it and daily it in NYC is because of you so thank you

As an NYC resident who owns this car, I’d say go for it, no issues at all in winter, even yesterday with that little flurry my car was doing better than all the compact suv drivers on the road

I live in north NJ and bought an FRS a month ago and it's been a lot of fun! The dealer I bought it from put on knockoff stock tires and they don't grip AT ALL on the snow but I love sliding around! Pretty easy to control but definitely not a good idea 😂 good luck with ur purchase!

Currently drive an 07 civic si, live in Manitoba and it sure gets snowy. Have always looked at 3 series with a stick as well as wrx's but now I might be considering this🤔. Try to get that tail end out in the civic whenever possible but it's just not the same as a good ol rwd!
