Honestly seeing one in full black….it kind of wowed me how much more i liked it than in the photos. And coming from someone who loves the M3/4 grill i still found the iX a rather ugly duckling, this spec was super unique in person and it sort of works. Definitely will grow on people

So all the reviews of this EV are very positive about the driving experience. I am in the market now, driving my wonderful 2015 MB S-550 w/75K mi and ready for a change. My S-550 was loaded at $116K back then and it is indeed the best vehicle I have owned, so a high bar to get over. Yesterday we went to local area BMW dealer and same salesman who almost sold me a 7series back when. They have a nice iX demonstrator, $93K not fully loaded like yours but had air suspension and rear steering (must haves). Did walk around and familiarization, then a long test drive. I loved the ride comfort, noise level, steering, braking, and excellent visibility. Very impressed until my wife ALERT told me her head increasingly bothered her because it was rubbing and banging on the plastic piece BMW designed into the headrest. Whoa, for her this was a deal breaker. She is 5'6", not an unusual height, and we could not figure out how to adjust the seat so it was comfortable for her. How could the BMW engineers let this DESIGN form over function happen? There must be many people these front seats will hit the wrong way (fine for me). Ergonomics is,ergonomics and has little to with FASHION. I am really disappointed.......

...if it is the best you've ever owned, why do you want to get rid of it? 75k miles is nothing these days. Change for the sake of change, or is something else happening with the car?
@jeffwilliams73512 жыл бұрын
@@K03sport Change for the sake of change, somewhat yes. The car is 7 years old, and I would appreciate an updated and faster OS with better camera resolution plus enhanced safety systems. The latest BMW and MB systems are much faster, "smarter", and offer Apple CarPlay that I do not have now at all (part of the 2018 MB refresh was wired CarPlay). My car was state of the art in 2015, but not today. I can afford to fix any issues on it and maintain it well (it's expensive to own this car) but I am retired now and ready to treat myself and my wife to the latest and greatest for our future road trips.

Love your POV videos, Topher. First one I saw was you driving the Lexus LC500 - you had so much fun with that convertible! Unfortunately, once my wife and I found one at a dealer 100 miles away and drove it, I could not justify it except as a weekend toy.. Very little space to put anything except the two of us. Now this BMW iX is truly a useful package for many people and many purposes.

I like the Crystal design theme that BMW is moving towards. It's very unique, and extremely futuristic looking. Also, the acceleration... you went from 55 to 80 in a few seconds, and it seemed effortless.

I drove one of these and i have to say it's quite impressive. I like the crystals bmw used for certain buttons. My only complaint is the sound quality compared to the other BMW models. It sounds good but the bass isn't very good, you can feel it in the front seats but not alot of air is being pushed.

if you are interested in a high performance sound system you should have opted for the B&W 1650 watt sound system with electro mecanical subwoofers integrated in the front seats. Trully immersive experience😃 I also listened to the Harman Kardon base system and found it quite acceptable although not comparable to B&W.

I really don't like the direction BMW interior is going with this gen. While the look of two connected screens is more subjective, they just don't look well integrated to the dashboard. It's like an add-on, and the gap between the bottom of the screen can't say it better. This cost saving is really not what I would expect from BMW as a luxurious brand.
@alh062 жыл бұрын
I’m sure it saves some costs but that’s not the primary reason- most of it is the benefit of having it aligned in your line of sight and easier to touch without looking down, however that does make it look less integrated.
@jkliao64862 жыл бұрын
@@alh06 But infotainment system would never be aligned in the driver's line of sight, otherwise it would be blocking the windshield to say the least.

I currently own a BMW, but come on. An electric minivan / pope mobile for the price of a mid western house. I’ve been starting to see a trend on these expensive electrics. Other than Tesla, they seem to be the only vehicles that sit in lots. My local Ford dealer has a whole row of Mach E’s sitting there. Perhaps what people really need are smallish fuel efficient cars?
@K03sport2 жыл бұрын
...or lower priced EVs. Tax credits aside, manufacturers are really using the new shiny toy to their advantage. But with all of the anxiety attached to EVs, ppl really don't see the value in a $50k EV that does "less" than their current $30k ICE car. Improved EV infrastructure, improved range, and for some, improved usability when temps drop below 30F for weeks on end. An EV would be perfect for us... It's the $800/mo payment that doesn't work out.

Something about the interior, that makes it look like an unfinished concept that the design team rolled out for display. Might be the excessive use of alcantara, or whatever that material is, and then of course the tacked on screen with a futuristic display.

"They could've made it look good, but deliberately didn't". The art world is awash with high priced art that follows just such a context (watch Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch or indeed just any Jackson Pollock), and BMW being a fairly artsy sort of company, probably felt it appealed to the types who could afford this price level - notice how BMW has kept their lower priced cars conventionally handsome, but its higher priced cars follow abstract "could have, but deliberately didn't" art themes interpreted into car ideologues. For some reason I think its massively clever in a way my socio-economically average eyes don't quite follow yet. Yet the beaver look does seem to be a vintage BMW theme, I'm thinking 1930 - 1950 BMW 327, 328, 501, 503, so the look may not be entirely without precedent.

@@joshuatucker521 Tesla has more range AND a frunk. Plus I don’t believe BMW placed batteries in that space. In fact, they almost assuredly didn’t.
@andreh.dupuis84752 жыл бұрын
I opened my hood and you can see they placed air condition components, battery cooling system, brake system components, it would be interesting to compare with Tesla MY or MX to see where those components are placed, in the end it is up to BMW engineers to make those tradeoff choices based on accessibility for build and maintenance, up to the customer to select a car with a frunk if it is a showstopper for them..
