@noodles9345
@noodles9345 5 ай бұрын
@btchidz I like the N a lot. Better in many categories. There are some negatives when compared to the Forte but they are minor for me. Like losing out on ventilated seats, no rear AC vents, no rear cupholders, manual adjust seats, no automatic cruise control. Though you do gain steering assist with the lane keep system. Will kinda steer the car for a minute or so with no driver input. Also the Elantra seats are more comfortable for me. Getting in and out isn't hard but it is a bit different. With the lil side panel thing and the bolstered seat. I hit my head a few times in the beginning lol. Yea I had the GT2. I actually feel like the Bose is worse, but not significantly so. I remember when I first bought the Elantra something didn't feel right with the audio system. Maybe I just got used to it since it feels normal now. Also I did notice that the infotainment in the GT started to slow down in just that year that I had it. The Elantra was more responsive from the start and remains that way. But I mostly bought it because I wanted to take something to the track and daily drive it. The track performance is incredible. I've been a few times all on stock everything and haven't had any problems with overheating or leaking/stuff breaking. Probably 6-7 hours of actual driving out there and all good so far.
@btchidz
@btchidz 5 ай бұрын
@@noodles9345 I appreciate your response! Yeah I had to ask, because I’ve only really experienced my Forte sound system and I actually like it. I’m definitely not a professional driver and I feel like it would be great to take the N to the track and learn more about driving for sure. The ventilation seats would’ve been nice, since I live in FL, but I’m willing to trade that for the more sportiness and I think better looks.

@@btchidzI had a Forte GT for 3 years and just traded in for an Elantra N back in May. I loooved my Forte GT! But as is natural, I also wanted more power and overall sportiness. I agree with everything the other guy said. All the stuff he mentioned has been my experience too. As far as the audio goes, the GT’s HK sound system is definitely better but not by that much. The Elantra N’s Bose can be improved a lot by tinkering with the settings. I produce music so audio is super important to me, and I’m telling you, you’ll be pretty satisfied still with the Bose. I look forward to you coming back to these comments next year to say you got your N! 🙂

Traded in my 09 accord for this exact spec in 2021 when covid era prices were relatively low, and it has been pretty good so far for the money! Pretty nice interior, zippy, and gets 25/40 mpg city/ hwy in my city. One quirk is that the DCT can get a little jerky off the line and shutter downshifting to a stop. It actually started revving at a light and stalled a few months ago. Tried to take it in for diagnostics but every dealer in the city wouldn’t have loaners and were backed up by a month at LEAST. The problem randomly stopped when pulled over and “rebooted” the car but I will def be looking into toyota or something else next.

Wonderful video and great review! What those who bash this car seem to overlook is that this is meant to be a fun daily driver. For the money, you just cant beat what it comes with. I can get over 40mpg when commuting, the suspension is damped fantastically, and I have had zero complaints in the reliability department. I currently have mine tuned with a few goodies and easily pushing over 240hp and over 260ft-lb torque and it is everything I can ask for in a daily driver. Makes my commutes much more fun and it handles amazing with the michelin pilots that come with the manual!

People love to talk down on Kia / Hyundai, and certainly they have their issues (not unlike other manufacturers), but they’re doing a really good job of making some fun, affordable cars for people who don’t have a ton of cash to throw at something German or Japanese. If I was younger with less disposable income I think this would be on my list. It’s fun and quirky and pretty unique.

Hyundai is an enticing option because the price to performance is pretty much unmatched. With that being said don't do it. I had a Hyundai engine that was going out and that was the worst service experience I've ever had. Luckily I was able to just take it and sell it before the big boom. It's one of the worst car companies out there.

@@SpartanArmy117 I do think you’re probably more likely to have bad experiences, but I also think it’s a bit YMMV. I had a VW and Audi, they were both headaches while both below 40k miles when I got rid of both. Service was pricey, advisors at my dealers (besides 1) would never get back to you… like sure it was great they had a barista while I waited to get my 6k service bill but it ended up not being worth it for me as someone who only puts 3-5k miles on my car a year. I traded in my S4 and ‘downgraded’ to an EN and so far it’s been great and my dealer in my city is phenomenal.

@@juiceton1029When I graduated college, I cross-shopped the Civic, Corolla, Mazda 3, and Forte. When I compared the features between each, the Kia Forte GT was the EASY choice. I wanted something sporty so the Corolla was out immediately. I had a job straight out of college that required bumper-to-bumper traffic so the Civic Si (manual) was out. The Mazda 3 Turbo was awesome and I had a 2006 manual Mazda 3 at the time but the new one was just too pricey. The Forte GT had almost all the bells and whistles of the other cars for a fantastic price with a superior warranty. Not to mention, the Kia salesman was the only one who treated me like a human. I had the Forte GT for 3 years until I recently traded it in and got a Hyundai Elantra N. Kia was the last dealership I wanted to go to because I disliked them at the time, but I opened my mind and found the most amazing little car. I LOVED that thing. In my 3 years and 30,000 miles, I did not have a SINGLE issue. The car was flawless. 30k miles isn’t much but people act like these cars fall apart as soon as you drive off the lot. Only reason I traded in for the Elantra N is I wanted more performance.

For what it's worth: There's a family in my area that owns a Honda specialty shop and a Toyota specialty shop (separate locations). I use them them on occasion when I don't have the time to DIY on our Acura and Lexus. They recently started servicing Kia and Hyundai products. I asked them (one of the owners) about it last time I was there, and their response was this (paraphrased somewhat): most of their Honda and Toyota work is maintenance and minor repairs. Those keep the light on, but don't cover the big things (new AC unit, lifts, etc.). They said with more and more Kia/Hyundai's on the road, and the issues they're seeing with them, it only makes sense. They hired a Kia trained mechanic, and he told them that what they're producing now won't age well. I kinda laughed and said I hadn't planned on owning wither, and he replied with "smart move". He said the Kia mechanic vows he'll never own one. Also, I asked if they have considered adding Mazda to their list, and he said they're too reliable to make it worth their time given their low market share in our area.

For 25 grand this is incredible. Interior looks like top trim of mazda 3 which is like 30-35 grand, and yet it has a 7 speed DCT instead of 6 speed auto in mazda. The steering wheel is similar to a genesis g70 which is 30-50K more expensive. And then you get all of these extra features standard that luxury automakers charge for.

This combo started in 2017 with the Elantra Sport (basically the same under the skin) and they are very good cars for the most part. That dual clutch is not really a performance transmission at heart (it's definitely no DSG) and having been in the community since 2017 I can say that the DCT has the most warranty claims. If you can make the choice, I would get one with the 6-speed manual. I loved my Elantra Sport and really regret selling it. Will very likely pick another one up sometime next year after I move to another state.

Man I have been so torn on either this or an Elantra N. I know they aren't really the same ballpark, but they have their pros/cons. The Forte GT checks more boxes in terms of tech I want, like adaptive cruise for the constant dynamic traffic here in Indy and ventilated seats for hot midwest summers. Plus it runs on regular unleaded, and gets great MPG. But the Elantra is easily more visually attractive, exhaust sounds phenomenal, and of course a lot more power. But it's at a roughly $10k premium on the used market.

I don't know about this car specifically, but many dual-clutch transmissions will take longer than traditional automatics to both warm up and to stop-and-go in slow-moving traffic. I would give it more time than normal to warm up and in-between gear changes. Try to avoid rapid stop-and-go. If you're still having issues, after that, I'd consider getting it looked at. Also, post some messages on Kia-focused message forums to see if other people with the same transmission have similar issues with no long-term problems, or whether it's concerning.

@@jessegaddy1897 The existing Forte does have a hatchback version, but you're right that hatchbacks and wagons don't hold the same presence in NA markets because of the overwhelming presence of SUVs and pickups. Personally, I like the more grounded feel of a vehicle lower to the ground, but I do want more space than a sedan can offer. Right now I drive an Outback and it's solid, but I don't really feel attracted to the higher ride height and the CVT it has. What I do like is the hatch and large usable space without going up to an SUV. The K4 hatchback looks like it'll deliver what I'm looking for (as the GT line version that is), with excellent looks to boot. Plus, they're touting best-in-class NVH with an acoustic windshield and tires, which is genuinely appealing to me. I just wish wagons were more popular here... It's just the German brands, Volvo, and Subaru for the most part.

No knock to the Forte but the Civic is pretty much a mid-size car so more space, is more refined, more likely to be reliable longterm and has an interior that’s better built. The Forte is still nice but it depends what you’re looking for, if you value features more than refinement then yeah the Forte will probably be for you.

@@BoldBrandFlakesthe Forte has a far better interior than the Civic, unless you're talking about a Type R. The only thing the Honda has better is likely long term reliability. But 10 years or 100k miles... I'll definitely sell it before that.

I have a Hyundai Elantra N-line, which is basically the same car underneath, except you get 235-section tires instead of 225 but fewer bells and whistles. The car is certainly underrated in terms of performance and alot of fun with the Bridgestone Potenza Sports I have on it. I like the 7-speed dry dual clutch but one thing I will say is that over time it will lose some of its sharpness because it's a dry clutch, but nevertheless, it is still a good transmission for the price point.

@@luisarsuaga7637 It won't get anymore jerky. It will just slip the clutch slightly more. Nothing majorly bad though. Sometimes I still don't notice it at all. It really depends on the day. I wouldn't worry too much about it though.

I would’ve loved to get one if it wasn’t for reliability concerns on these DCTs. Have you seen what they had to deal with on Car Confections? Transmission replacement after 30 miles? @@Symphoniics How many miles did you have on it? Three years really isn't very long to own a car if you're trying to assess long-term reliability, in my opinion. Mid-term reliability is around 60-90k miles; long-term is 100-200k miles; very long-term is 300-500k+ miles (IMO). There are a ton of cars that are awesome to own until about 60-90k miles, then they start falling apart.
@Symphoniics
@Symphoniics 5 ай бұрын
@@MishtahPoog It had 30k miles. I am definitely not assessing long-term reliability tho. It’s that people commonly say Kias fall apart straight off the lot. I’m here to report that it’s quite the opposite. 3 years and not a single issue, not a rattle or creak, infotainment still lightning fast, etc. As a car enthusiast, I don’t keep a car more than 10 years or 100k miles anyway. And honestly a lot of people switch cars within 5 years anyway. All that said, Kia/Hyundai long-term reliability is far better than you think. There’s a lot of confirmation bias. Every time someone sees ONE Kia issue, they generalize and apply it to all others. But when Toyota has several GR Corollas catching on fire on the highway, people leap to make excuses or dismiss it as an anomaly.
